Organizers of Showdown Mas Camp are promising patrons an exciting package this calypso season with a new twist.
This year ‘Showdown Mas Camp Cuisine’ will be part of the event.
The first show is scheduled to take place at the Harlem Plaza in Newtown on Thursday, January 7, 2016, from 8:00 pm and a number of calypsonians are expected to perform.
They are former six-time calypso king, Dennison ‘Dice’ Joseph, Abel ‘Checko’ Jno Baptiste, Charis D, Vigilante, Explosion, Leona, De Wave, Soul Puss, Michael ‘Boople’ Lafleur, the Bobb among others.
“There is a little addition to our menu because usually we bring you calypso and other cultural activities like Lapo Kabwit, we usually bring you dancers, but this year we have a little element to our presentation which is food,” Song Writer Pat Aaron said while addressing the launch of Showdown Mas Camp 2016 at the Calypso House in Bath Estate on Tuesday.
He continued, “Showdown Mas Camp is introducing the ‘Showdown Mas Camp Cuisine’ and we intend to provide a lot of tasty foods, calypso foods; calypso rice and we intend to do it at a price that is very affordable.”
Aaron said organizers want to ensure that patrons not only are entertained with great calypso but will enjoy tasty foods.
Meantime Interim Chairperson of Showdown Mas Camp, Dr. Valda Henry said almost every week a special guest artiste will be presented during the season.
“We have been fortunate that we were able to get these top names to agree to come to Dominica for rock bottom prices, in essence because they recognize that it is something good that we are doing,” she remarked.
According to her organizers are looking forward to an exciting show and is appealing to the public to support the event.
She mentioned further that a Happy Hour will be one of the features of the show from 6:00 pm, with Kubuli Beer, as one of the main sponsors of the event.
“We are going to have goat water, shatoo water, fish water on sale during the Happy Hour,” Dr. Henry stated.
She announced that at the end of the season Showdown Mas Camp will make a contribution to the children affected by Tropical Storm Erika.
“One of the homes we are looking at is the House of Hope located in Delices that caters for abandoned children, ” Dr. Henry revealed.
