Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) Spokesman, Val Cuffy has said a number of new activities have been added to Mas Domnik 2016 and is optimistic they will create an impact.
Among the new activities are the first ever Bouyon Monarch and Pan in the Sand.
“One of the new activities that we have planned is something called Pan in the Sand and that will be done at the COVE, which is a new initiative where we are trying to bring back the spirit of the pan movement in Dominica, so we want to encourage as many persons possible to join that activity,” he said at a press conference on Wednesday.
He added for the first time there will be the Dominica Calypso, “Kaiso” Hall of Fame & Classic Kaiso concert, as well as the Bouyon Monarch Competition, both scheduled to take place on January 29.
“So we will have for the first time in Dominica a 2016 Bouyon Monarch champion and that in itself with the various boat cruises that we have added to the program,” Cuffy stated.
He said that the Carnival program was made all inclusive with the limited resources that are available.
“We do believe that with the spirit of Carnival being very high – not having been able to do our World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) – we believe Carnival is the time to start the engine going to bring the culture back,” Cuffy remarked.
He also believes that the various activities including the Queen show, the Calypso Monarch, the various tents and different carnivals in the out districts, Carnival 2016 will be a successful one.
