Chairperson of the Carnival Queen Show Committee, Romualda Hyacinth, is promising that the 2016 edition of the National Queen Show will be an experience patrons will never forget.

She made the remarks at the launching of queen contestant representing Loubiere, Nawana Shillingford, 25, who was one of three launched on Sunday 6th December 2015.

Tasia Floissac, 22 of Castle Comfort and Britney Pharoah, 22, of Grandbay, were also launched.

She said the Queen Show Committee has over 10 years of experience in pageantry and has organised a series of activity for the contestants to help with their personal and professional development in the run-up to the pageant.

“There is no doubt that the show is nothing short of success in 2016. In fact, it will be a pageant of high quality, class and very competitive. An experience you will never forget,” she said.

The contestants will compete in five categories: costume, talent, swimwear, evening gown and question and answer on the night of the pageant which will be held on the 5th day of February 2016.

Hyacinth also encouraged all to come to the queen show preshow which is carded for Saturday 19th December 2015 at the Arawak at 7:00 pm.

Meantime Product Promotions Manager at the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) Kathleen Cuffy Jno Jules said the organization is committed to supporting the young ladies and wished them well.

“It’s going to be a long journey but hope that this pageantry will impact your life positively in years to come,” she said.

Cuffy-Jno Jules used the opportunity to call on potential sponsors to come on board for Carnival 2016.

“I wish to call on potential sponsors: our ladies here they need sponsorship, so play your part, contribute towards Carnival 2016. It’s our Carnival to preserve and protect, our culture and our heritage, so your contribution will be very appreciated not only for the DDA but also for the queen contestant. Let’s have a great carnival, an exciting one and incident free,” she said.

Floissac was launched at Harlem Plaza and Pharoah in Grand Bay.

what determines queen material really? Is it the size of the individual or the complete package of beauty, brains and body? Ms. Pharoah I admire your confidence and strength and I wish to see you victorious. I know You will make Your family and friends proud

I totally agree. I don’t know her personally but she has always carried herself with class, which is more than can be said for some of the others.

Although all three of these young ladies are quite beautiful, some of my Labourite comrades and I believe that of the three at least one is NOT a Labourite. That, of course, is sad news for that young lady. The question here is: knowing that you are not a Labourite either by birth or persuasion, why would you even consider entering the pageant? Any young lady who has not dedicated her life or sworn allegiance to the blessed Dominica Labour Party should know that she has no chances of winning Ms. Dominica. Why enter a race already knowing that you are going to lose? The young lady from Grandbay, Britney Pharoah, is appropriately attired in RED to show her love and commitment to the blessed party. This obviously is a very smart young lady and, more than likely, the next Ms. Dominica if all goes well. One does not have to be a genius to know that Dominica is a Labourite country and expects a Labourite to represent us, even in beauty pageants. Ms. Pharoah all the way!

I’m hoping that when a “non-labourite” emerges victorious next year, you and your comrades will swallow y’alls tongues. Everything does not have to be based on Labour and Politics. Smh. Give it a rest for Christ’s sake!
