Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has given the police two thumbs up, for what he said was sterling services given during the Monday and Tuesday Street Jump up in the City and environs.

In a statement issued to the media, Skerrit said the Chief of Police, the rank and file of the police force and revelers must be commended.

“From all reports, people were pleased with the visible presence of the police throughout the country and particularly in Roseau,” he said.

The prime minister said it is the public’s view that the high presence of the police assisted in the maintenance of peace and tranquility during the carnival celebrations.

“I also want to commend the revelers themselves for assisting the police because clearly the police cannot do all on their own, they would need the understanding and collaboration of the public in maintaining law and order in Dominica,” he noted.

And to those calling on government to change the end of Carnival jump up from 10:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the prime minister hinted that this isn’t going to happen.

“Often times people ask us to reduce the time but we always believe we have to show a certain level of trust and confidence in the ability of our people to behave themselves,” he said.

Prime Minister Skerrit said he is hoping that the level of peace is observed in Dominica year round.

IT just goes to show whenever the public work in tandam with our law enforcement agencies things comes out nicely, and the whole country benifits. There is always going to have a few idiots for one reason or the other who will case trouble but like
i always say they are in the minority and needs to be crushed A.S.A.P. Law and order has to be maintained by any means necessary. Congratulations! to all those who played their part. Big up to my fellow officers for a job well done take credit and enjoy the favourable response from all over for as we all know when things goes wrong how quickly some forget, and the police gets critized. But its all part of the job. In my days in the force after such hard work and positive results all officers would get one week off according to the excigencies of the force. I am cofident commrad and the comm. of police Mr Carbon will continue with the tradition. To all those who are rewarded have your own carnival as they used to tell us the public has their carnival and we are to protect them, and after, the police will have their own carnival time off, it`s only fair game.

Good morning. Well I would like to congratulate our Police Officers for a job well done. It seems like they were everywhere(good omni presenc) and say thanks to the Prime Minister for recognizing our Officers for a doing a good job. Also we must not forget that its up to all of us to do our part to make the quality of life better for all of us. One of the big difference that I observed is that Ash Wednesday isn’t a holiday because when I left DA is was a holiday where the family would go and have a cook out By the river.(what happened).

Hi, stop being unprofessional to our Prime Minister and our citizens. Do you want criminals to run while in Dominica. Then how do you expect me to come home and enjoy carnival while spending money which helps our economy.

We need stiffer punishment for the idiots who disrupt carnival. They should be placed on probation. For the next five carnivals, they have to report for lock up. Jail them for the two days of carnival. When you look at it, is the same repeat offenders. If you get them out of the equation, then carnival can go up to midnight as it should be.

Grand Bay (Sout City), great job for keeping the peace during the Carnival! No incidents and no accidents is a big step in the right direction for the Cultural capital of the nation. Respect and recognize now! Don’t forget the Pierre Charles Blvd. needs completion straight to a new bridge over the Grand River. The village is long over due for such project.
