Dominica’s Real Mas celebration will officially get underway today.

The annual parade of bands will begin from 3 pm outside DBS Radio on Victoria Street.

Over 1,500 participants will form part of today’s parade.

“It will start 3 pm sharp and make its way down to the Bayfront, then on King George the 5th street, then onto Great George street then the Carnival City via the E.O Leblanc highway,” Event Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee, Natalie Clarke-Meade, said.

She said a few speeches and the launching of all the contestants for the various pageants will begin from 6 pm.

“Its going to be really excited … I think the opening parade grows and grows every year and this year is no exception … this year we have more traditional groups, the lapo cabwits will be with us again, the sensay and the Jouvert groups and so on,” she said.

Meade also announced that the business community will now form part of the opening parade and their floats will be judged.

“We also the advertising and business floats at the opening ….they have worked so hard to make their advertising floats so beautiful so they will be judged.,” Meade stated. “We will end the opening with a clash of the big bands at Carnival City from about 8 pm …. WCK and Triple K will be there to entertain carnival lovers”.
