Urgh!! I think the judges should make the word “basically” a crime. Like seriously, it is really annoying to be hearing this so often in an interview from a queen contestant. Some of them need to widen their vocabulary. PRONTO!!!

My impression of the interviews thus far.
Tourence is very relaxed in her skin, good conversationalist, carefree genuine person, queenly qualites like politeness and mildness. Octavia is a very beautiful girl with a ready smile and outgoing personality. A word of advice to her though, it’s ok to take a moment to meditate before responding to questions, and please try to slow down a bit when u speak. Royette, please find some time to get a bit of sleep, u seem so tired, but a lovely girl! Francine seems to be right on tract, Shalina seems to have had a really rough journey thus far, but feel proud of what u have achieved, it can only go uphill from here. I wait with great anticipation for the interviews of Jewele and Donnella! Thanks Pearl Fontaine, great interviews. Good luck girls.

Thanks Serious! I think people miss the point between speaking and writing. Speaking is expressive, how we speak is how we write. I commend the girls for coming forward, for answering the call, and for play a part in Carnival. However it is the CARNIVAL QUEEN SHOW/MISS.DOMINICA. What sets you apart from the rest is what determines you take home the crown. What makes others runners up, is how close they are to you.

Pearl needs refinement. She can try to sound as eloquent as possible but her questions are never clear. Sometimes it’s almost as though she forget what she suppose to ask those ladies. GIS and pearl couldn’t even edit the portion of that terrible video of the other contestant where they had some technical issue. This is some sorry piece of journalism. Amateur at best! Secondly, couldn’t they have dressed those young women more elegantly? Not trashy but elegant and sophisticated. I know when I talking to local Dominicans I put on my local DA twang. But geez if I going in front of a camera for a pageant or to represent my job I can definitely switch up my grammatical and verbal communication skills. Octavia a self looking and sounding so happy to be here (NOT!!!!) Why she have to say the primary reason for going up for queen is to get scholarship instead of representing her country? That sounding selfish and self serving etc. Ughhhhh…. I am cheering for Tourence. She needs less work. She’s already elegant and well spoken. A few tweaks here and there and she is ready for her crown. So genuine and sweet. I love this young lady! Love her name. Big fan !

I agree with you on the part about Pearl. She just asking a bunch of irrelevant questions.

Michael: I totally agree with you. These young ladies all want to “representative” of Dominica on a national level and that is how articulate they are? Their responses to the questions asked are unbelievable! Aren’t their teams supposed to mentor them in public speaking? This is not the only year that I have listen to Pearl and these contestants except for a couple of them, they are terrible. I would think that they would listen to the past interviews and do some preparation. No wonder a couple of ranked “beauty” above “brains”. This answer shocked me. It would be a good idea if their teams would sit with them before the competition, and review their interview with them and give them some coaching and feedback. This will help them be more eloquent in the interview segment of the competition and just public speaking overall. This is not meant to be critical but highlighting areas of opportunity. Having said that, I wish all of them the best as they represent us.

I have to be very honest. None of the interviews have wow me. Most of them doesn’t have the basic right, some of the words used by these girls doesn’t exist and the grammer is poor, extremely poor. These girls considering to enter such pageant such get the basic right, the committee will help with the interview skills and techniques.

Inorder to be critical about someone’s bad grammar you should ensure that your grammar is perfect or close to perfect…go look up the spelling of “grammar” because u spelt it with an E instead of an A….also learn when to use dont and doesnt

Of course the person can be critical of their grammar. The person not going up for queen. They didn’t put themselves inna de lime light. I bet after my sentence you will tell me I cyan speak either. You need to take your own advice because you cyan even construct a descent sentence. Since when “……..” is part of sentence structure?

You said: “Inorder to be critical about someone’s bad grammar you should ensure that your grammar is perfect or close to perfect…go look up the spelling of “grammar” because u spelt it with an E instead of an A….also learn when to use dont and doesnt”

You forget there needs to be spaces between your words?
There needs to periods and full stop after a statement?
what is “doesnt”? Is this the way we spell “u’?

People on here speak in their local Dominican twang. It does not mean that they can’t compose a sentence. You need to venture off and work on yourself. They are queens and should speak as such in front of the camera. That’s what the person is saying.

Who said you have to write proper English to post a comment on here. Havent’t you heard of the term dialect? If you’re going up for a pageant you need to be able to speak well and answer all your questions on queue without hesitation. Apparently some of these girls need extra help.

You don’t have to be eloquent to be able to critic persons who may speak better than you. We are too quick to backlash instead of taking constructive criticism. I certainly agree with everyone here who said that the young ladies needs to be more equipped verbally in order to be a well rounded representative. Smart people take sound advice no matter who gives it
