LA PAZ, Bolivia — Culture ministers from the countries that make up the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas (ALBA), including a number from the Caribbean, are holding their 14th regional meeting in La Paz, Bolivia, to evaluate the advancement and challenges of the integration bloc in this social field.
Press official Silvana Saavedra told PL news agency that the ministerial meeting will address actions for a better performance of the regional bloc in the cultural area. Based on the countries´ experience in the field, the ministers will discuss the need for a bigger contribution by the culture sector to political, social and economic process underway in this continent, Saavedra explained.
The meeting´s agenda includes the setting up of a technical-juridical working team in charge of drawing up an accord that waives customs tariffs linked to production, purchase and distribution of goods and services among ALBA countries. Another aspect is the creation of ALBA cultural centers where they are not yet been set up, since they have been opened only in Cuba and Venezuela.
Other issues on the agenda are the preparations for the 1st ALBA Cultural Festival that would be held every two years.
The meeting is being attended by culture ministers from Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Venezuela. The conference takes place prior to the 18th Forum of Latin American and Caribbean Culture Ministers, slated to take place in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz.

When you look at how he seems to be, more and more, setting up a personality cult within Venezuela, this so called “Bolivarian Alternative” could just be a euphemism for “World Domination”. That may be too simple a comparison, but his rhetoric by comparing criminal rebels as friend’s is NOT a good sign. The Caribbean should weigh any agreement, be it with the US, UK or Venezuela, very carefully and thus far Pres. Mr Skerrit has no idea what he is doing to our country. Yes, we have gained benefits from Venezuela, but as a young woman should I for e.g expose myself to a man just because he gives me a little dollar. Mr Prime Minister, I love you with all my heart, but I believe that you are doing damage to our country. We do not notice the outcomes now, but I think that, in the future, we will be in trouble, or are we in it already? We have to realise that in our country, the US dollar is King. I’m just hoping that this alliance between Mr Skerrit and Chavez will not affect my goals in the future….

It saddens me to know that my country may not be my own anymore, but that of the elected officials to do with as the please. Dominica is rate 5.2 on the UN corruption index…I am so sad. being a critic of those who ran out of Dominica and never return, it is seemingly that which is also to be my fate. for the sake of my children I MUST… I cannot stay and fight this battle that Dominica is heading towards. Nobody has sold Dominica’s birth right. A man has just gone to a meeting of ministers talking about cultural associations not to hand over the keys of Dominica to anyone.
Relax, it’s no different to EU ministers having a gathering or even the UN. People must talk, from that they gain better insight and understanding of oneanother, that way when actions or decisions need to be made they can be done from a position of wisdom
