The Commonwealth of Dominica, Ontario Association (CDOA) will celebrate Dominica’s Independence and the Association’s 42nd anniversary by hosting a cultural extravaganza for the 3rd Annual Miss Wob Dwiyet Canada Pageant.
The event is carded to take place on Saturday, October 6 and will be the first of two events celebrating the association’s 42nd anniversary.
It is expected to take place at St. Clement of Ohrid Banquet Hall in Toronto at 6:30pm and will showcase Dominica’s cultural heritage, through traditional dances, folk songs and a colourful display of Dominica’s national dress the “Wob Dwiyet”.
Eight young ladies, ages 16-24, of Dominican descent will compete in the pageant and will be judged on their display and knowledge of Dominica’s culture and history.
Contestants will prepare for the pageant through extended training in cultural dance and wardrobe, public speaking and media awareness under the guidance of Dominica’s former National Queen, Paula DelSol. Contestants will also promote the CDOA and volunteer at several community activities and events. The winner of the event will serve as a Youth Cultural Ambassador for Dominica.
The CDOA is considered Toronto’s leading National Caribbean Associations. Through the years it has promoted the island’s culture, raised funds for health care services, among others.
A deserving national will also receive the Dominican of Distinction Award for his/her contribution to advancement of Dominica’s image overseas, at the association’s second event celebrating Dominica’s Independence, later in the year.
Congratulations! DA much respect to all those who take time to promote Dominica and our culture. Count yourselves as examples that not all is bad with our people, keep up the great work. I will be there.
