Renowned historian Lennox Honychurch, Ph.D has received the Caribbean Award for Excellence in Public and Civic Education, becoming the first Dominican to obtain the prize.
The awards have been held biennially since the first one was meted out in 2006, but as of 2011, it will be held yearly.
Raymond Ramcharitar, corporate communications manager at the Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence, reported Friday that Honychurch was awarded for his work in history, creating sustainable tourism environments and for restoring forts and heritage sites in Dominica and in the Caribbean.
Honychurch was selected for the award by the Caribbean awards’ nominating committee for the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), of which OECS Ambassador Charles Maynard, serves as chairman.
Honychurch is among three recipients named for the award this year. The two others are from Trinidad & Tobago: Kim Johnson, Ph.D obtained the Caribbean Awards for Excellence in the area of Arts and Letters, while Professor Surujpal Teelucksingh was awarded the Caribbean Awards for Excellence in Science and Technology.
Congratulations! It is wonderful that you have pieced together Dominica History for everyone, especially the children. I have been keeping up on your works through your internet site. I have tried numerous times to reach you but have had no luck. I have questions about Pointe Mulatre Estate. I lived there in 1962 and now live thousands of miles away. I would really like to hear about the area now, especially update on the old plantation house where we lived with Mr. Blumquist. If anyone can find the time to write, I have a number of questions and a wonderful history to tell. [email protected]
well deserved
Lennox, Thanks for all you have done to inform and help to guide us the right way. There are so many others who claim to be historians but kept their information in their chastity belts, because they heard that knowledge is power, so they would not share. Thanks for caring, Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations are in order for you, Dr. Honeychurch!
Congrats, Lennox! Keep up the good work! You do it so well! Every time I listen to or see your presentations, I wonder whether you have a few “understudies”. Such a wealth of information should be “passed on” for the benefit of our history students. We MUST make full use of modern technology to preserve our rich history. Let us remember that no one is indispensable! God bless!
Congratulations to you Mr.Honeychurch!on behalf of Dubique and Calibishie by extension,we wish you all the very best in your future endeavours. You continue to make us proud.Maybe now is as good a time to say”thank you”for the times you helped my child in her projects. You are truely an inspiration,a blessing, and a gift to us from God.God bless you DOC,may everything you ever dreamed of come true.We love you to the max….. God-speed.MWAH.Continue to educate Dminica.
Congratulation. Through your books and speeches, we have learn’t a lot about our history.
Dr.Church, you are a good man, but please do not tarnish your reputation with politics
Because it will compromise your credibility
I was reading a book and it mentioned something about the “Dominican Story” and then I remembered when I was young, they had that series on DBS…. what happened to that??? They should do that again. I used to love it as a kid.. they had drama and sound effects? Wa go on with this show? I think now is the most appropriate time to bring it back.. because many of our young persons (from 30 go down) do not know our story. Bring that back Honychurch and DBS..or Kairi or Q or whoever… tv even. Lets do that again. I will listen for sure.
True say.this was really great.bring back these roots mind uplifting programs.green gold.remember?
Congrats DR Honeychurch continue to make yourself and Dominica proud

Congratulations are in order! I remember in the 1980s you were one of the pioneers who championed efforts to restore Fort Shirley with limited funding. The Dominica Story is a must read for all Dominicans.
I read one of his books on on the history of dominca. It was excellent!
Gosh, at least someone can get recognised… this is big… really big…. this man works like a donkey, this man need a statue of him, this man need more and more than that, in terms of recognition….

Very deserving award. You’re a great Dominican. Congratulations are in order for such an award.

Congrats DR Honeychurch well deserve no hatred,no politics,no mapew, no row, row, pure educated stuff and a wealth of information for all Dominican. Not suprising very few hits on such positive acheivement. Keep up the good work.
Good for you, Dr. Honychurch. You have played a major role in restoring history in Dominica. Congratulations!!!!
Well sorry but I cannot give any praise to a man who will stand by and says nothing about the fact that a historic building and its surroundings is about to be savaged by roosevelt skerritt. Do the people who gave this award know about this disgraceful, deafening silence on the part of mr Horneychurch as it relates to the president’s residence?
Sound reasonings my bredrin, brings to mind a famous quote by His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I the First conquering Lion of the Tribe of Juda
“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.”
Good point sir
you are a thinker
and therefore anti labour
You are indeed DUMB!!!
I guess i touched a nerve eh? maybe you should try an overstan the message, theres wisdom in it.
Still peace be unto you my bredrin in the Ivine name of His Imperial Majesty.
not as dumd as you because you and the rest of your ilk don’t even understand the role this man has played in trying to prevent independence from coming to Dominica and the amount of inaccuracies he presents.
Fairplay you sound like a LABOURITE…..
unable to analyse,
unable to scrutinize
and unable to rationalize.
but always ready to blindly criticize
all those who verbalize
my lord! are lords supposed to be the rudest people?
So where yoiu be ? You not in Dominica? Last few weeks they repeating him on TV showing how it is a complex of buildings, electoral office, commissions meeting rooms, conference centre in restored old state house and then pres office and residence. You may not agree with it but he not standuing by saying nothing.
Negativism on the brain, you call that.
Lennox has played is part and given copaceitc contribution to Dominica,
Others give what they have: Mepuis from the Crab-in-the-barrel mentality. “Anyone who rises to the top is fair game, because I am at the bottom.” Drop that attitude, brethren. It can only keep you in the pits.
Congrats Dr. Honeychurch!!!
Very well deserved
Dr. Honeychurch is a true Dominica and believe in his country’s progress and development. it is amazing how well informed about Dominica and nature that this man is. I went on a hike with him and trust me his knowledge and information is vast. We need more good men like this in D.A. Thank you and congrats Dr. you made us proud.
Congrat Dr !!
