Justina Charles wants Africa Week to be signature event

africa weekMinister for Culture, Youth and Sports Justina Charles is hopeful that a week, such as ‘Africa Week’, specifically designed to reconnect Dominicans with their African roots will become a signature event in Dominica.

“With more stakeholders getting involved in Africa Week, I am confident that Africa Week will become one of the signature events in our cultural calendar,” she said.

Charles, who was addressing the opening ceremony of Africa Week on Monday evening at the Harlem Plaza, also gave high praise to the House of Nyaibinghi and the National Youth Council for collaborating to host the week of activities.

“We commend the House of Nyaibinghi for their sharing their knowledge and promoting greater awareness for Africa and its true meaning to us and the younger generation,” she said. “I must commend also the National Youth Council for participating in the celebration.”

She urged the general public, in particular the young people, to participate in the various activities during the week.

Also addressing the opening ceremony, Acting Prime Minister Ambrose George called on Dominican youth to engage “with the Africa in us.”

“The young people too need to engage with Africa,” he pointed out. “This year, given the focus on the youth, it is important that we as adults assume our responsibilities to the youth, and not continue to perpetuate the negative stereotypes of Africa. If we as adults fail to embrace our African heritage, we are doing our children, our youth a disservice.”

Africa Week is being observed in Dominica from May 19th to May 25, under the theme “Youth Embracing African Heritage.”

Activities include a panel discussion organized by the National Youth Council on Tuesday, African Dress day on May 23, a football match on the Newtown Savannah on Saturday May 24.

An African Solidarity March on Sunday, May 25, will wrap up the week.

Africans may be nice people or at least some of them. Very seldom do they marry West Indians because of their culture. We do know their cultue is totally different from ours. They will use them and leave them. Granted they may not be the only men and/or of certain culture who would do such a thing.
Let some of them who sing their praises not be blind to that fact.
This is the reason why some people are not interested in Africa Week.
Some West Indians seem to forget, overlook or ignore that we have parents from different heritage. Why do some dwell on colonialism? The fact is some of our ancestors originated from the (so-called) White man from France and Europe. None speak of them. All they speak of and concentrate on is Africa and Africans.
Let us not deceive ourselves that Africans care about Africa week in the West Indies of all. They know we are not Africans; not full-fledged ones. I believe they too would question why are West Indians celebrating Africa Week.
Anyway, celebrate it if you so wish and since some of you are interested.

You will be very lucky if they do not call you a liar because of your opinion is actually true, and because of that I will tell you, that I know someone, from here in Los Angeles, we attended an California State University years ago.

She was Married to an African, who took her to Africa, only to find that when they were going some place, driving, she had to sit in the rear of the Car, because of their traditional custom, which is an indication that she is not his equal. As a result their wife’s and servants sits in the back of the car. Pertaining to using people; there was a Jamaican lady living next door to me, my children and her son went to the same school.

She met an African guy, he had no legal papers to be here, they married anyway, she filed for him, and so he obtained a Green Card. In less than a month after he got the Green Card, the lady went to work one day, on returning home, she found all of the guy’s belongings was gone from the house, she never saw him again to this very day!

So, those low life, dirty Dominicans who are calling me a liar, they can go right ahead, and say I lie, if that will give them a good feeling, or a good high! Like the one who said from the time he went to England the brief case talk has been around, all the fool has done is confirm what I said is true, only he is so damn dumb he could not realize his comments support my argument; but that’s how we Dominicans operate!

Let me leave you with this, some of them are here working in hospitals as nursing assistance, no need to detail their assignments, nevertheless, they will have the same job in two or three hospitals, they go out and rent a BMW, Mercedes Benz, or some expensive motor vehicle, only to impress people in their country by sending photographs telling their friends and family they are a medical doctors you know. It happened in Texas, and I not mentioning the name of the Hospital, but someone went there asking for Dr. Somebody, only to be told that there is no Dr. Somebody here!

I was in Centinella Hospital last year, I had a bout with Afib. One morning this girl a nursing assistance came with my breakfast, she has on a mask over her mouth and nose, I am in a private ward. I ask her is there something in my charts which said I am contagious? No she replied, so I again her why do you have the mask over you mouth, and nose. She told me well, that is for your protection, so I told her if you have some disease which I need to be protected from then I do not want back in here, I called the Charge Nurse, and made she got her out of there. The are a screwed bunch of people.

They can call me lie again if they wish.

Oh yes! I believe you! You would not have made up such a story when many others had either the same or similar experience. We know many stories about such people, enough to write a book. We do not have to search for those storie. On occasion people voluntarily inform us. They spill their hearts out.
While shopping, etc., I have met people who do not know me and they inform me of their personal experience. I have been told you look like a nice person this is why I am telling you this. Sometimes they only want a listening ear. I am a good listener. I empathize with them, provide encouragement and wish them well. Many have stories to tell and some very sad ones. It is amazing that more people are not insane.
If someone made a comment especially pertaining to this topic, I would never state that they lie especially to people whom we have never met. Anyway, it is disrespectful to do so. If people cannot prove something they should refrain from informing others they lie.
I would think if we knew more people who had such experience and we spoke to them we would hear more.
About some marrying only to get their papers, much of that has occurred in Canada. There is much to state about this one. The Canadian government – Immigration has clamped down and made me more difficult for them to merely get married for a landed status.
A white woman who had this happen to her, dressed in her wedding gown and went to Ottawa, the Capital of Canada, a few hours drive from Toronto and protested for a long time until the government did something about it. She was not shy. I saw her on TV. It was big news. The man married her and he disappeared, no doubt somewhere in Canada.
They are rude on it to the women saying, the government cannot do them anything and send them back where they came from. I hope he was caught. They cause the government to enact a relevant law.
As I stated, it is no longer easy to get married on the rebound. They have a lot of proving to do that they knew their partner for a long time and that they are truly in love and not merely using their partner as a passport to marry and to stay here.

Well, if you heard about it when you first went to England, I heard it while I was there then there must be some truth to the matter, where there is smoke there is always fire, A fire never get started without an ark. if you are certain that its a myth, or a lie, you should not be ashamed to write your comments under your name as I have done continually.

We are only stating a fact which has existed and still exists. The other way around is different.
How many African men marry West Indians – so-called black women?
How many would like to reside in D/ca if they were married to Dominicans?
There are African parents who would like their children to marry their own; no exception the men. I would think the majority of them. We are not blind to that.

This is my final on that, to the one who called me a liar, be informed, that I have traced my roots to the Wallop tribe in Dakar Senegal. My name Telemaque exists there, and can also be found on the Ivory Cost also. And if you do not believe me, go on your computer, and profile Vessey Denmark Telemaque, see what you find.

If you found nothing significant look up the Vessy Denmark insurrection, and you will find out that I exist under my original African Surname, so I do not have to go to Africa to know that I am of African decent!

The Concepts and Sciences of the Ancient Africans whom are our ancestors are so vast and is still being comprehended by modern cultures in this time, it would take more than a Week per year to begin to celebrate their achievements, which directly would transfer into “specifically designed to reconnect Dominicans with their African roots”,,,

Firstly however, the Nation as the large aggregate of people united by common descent, Claiming African decent must cleanse themselves from the Brain-tuning of the Albino’s Story [His-tory] about the Concepts of African Culture,,,

What we as a peoplevhave to understand, that the high level of igmorance that one commentator posted above is not a blanket description of every African on the continent.

Where this does exist, is as a result of European colonialism.

It is up to us as an enlightened citizen of the world to break this self-hate of one annother and reason out like persons living in the 21st century.

Iam all for constructive criticism, but let us be more open minded. Lest we pull each other down deeper into the pit of ignorance.

Ras Albert, how convenient to have European colonialism like a coathook to hang our problems on. I tired of that Ras. If we did not have it we would have to invent another scapegoat to blame for our underachievement. Yes, our foreathers came from Africa, in fact all mankind come from Africa but we are living here now and must make our way here. I don’ see any of our local brothers immigrating to Africa. Why not? Instead I seeing many Africans wanting to go to Europe and N. America. Why Ras?

        May 23, 2014

JoJo, you made an excellent point. Although I have no doubt that Africa is a beautiful country, I have no interest to go to Africa. Too many wars and factions there; some evil ones. Note Nigeria. How sad.
The French and British fought over D/ca. In the end the British paid the French to get out of D/ca. Obviously, the British would rule the country.
Some of these people go about saying that they forced colonialism on us but they were already there and long before we were born. Who us anyway?
It is the height of stupidity and ignorance for them to make such a statement. I am not one to indulge in this type of silly conversation which do no good for us. It smacks of racism/ discrimination and hatred.
Those same Rastas tried to destroy Dominica. Look at what they did to Mr. Ted Honychurch; how much he suffered at their hands and then they murdered him. They were trying to get rid of the white man in D/ca. Such a tranquil and peaceful man they did something like that to him. Consider the grief of his family.
I view these people as wicked. Their views and philosophy do not represent main stream Dominicans. They are capable of stirring up trouble.

“Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports Justina Charles is hopeful that a week, such as ‘Africa Week’, specifically designed to reconnect Dominicans with their African roots will become a signature event in Dominica.”

Justina, I think you need to shut up, just shut up! You people are so politically bankrupt, there is nothing significant left for you all to talk about; so anything you believe will distract from the real issues of the day which is election, you all have decided to e focus on people who have no clue who you are!

Who the hell care about “Africa Week.” Africans do not care about Dominica, and the people of Dominica, I will state it here again as in my response to the rubbish Ambrose wrote concerning the Kidnapped girls in Nigeria. Africans on the continent of Africa, do not care anything about Black people in the Caribbean, or the West Indies as far as we know. I reiterate that they refer to West Indians as “Sons of Slaves.”

That is common knowledge! I have first hand knowledge gained from dealing with Africans while I lived in England, Germany, and now in Los Angeles. Try this, go and visit England, go into a pub, where you will find Africans; men, and women, introduce yourself to them, and tell them you are from the West Indies, and see how far the conversation will go. Here is one of my experiences. A friend and I went into a Red Lion Pub in London, one night, we were the only two Black’s in the club, until four (4) Africans walked in.

They chose a table next to my friend Teddy, and I. Eventually one of them ask me what country in Africa are we from; I told the guy we are not from Africa, however, I am from the island of Dominica, and Teddy is from Antigua, the minute I told him that the conversation ended abruptly, the next thing we know is that the suckers changed table, they went way down into a conner at the far end of the club, they discriminates against Blacks who are not born on the continent of Africa!

I had a similar experience in Cuxhaven West Germany, there was one I who was illiterate, I would read and write his letters he received from Africa, I would reply to them, but if we met in a Bar, or club and he was with other Africans, the sucker would pretend as if he did not know me. They are users too: on a certain college campus one night I pulled into the parking structure, a young girl recognized my name, on my registration plate, and the words “Commonwealth of Dominica W. I.” written around my name. She came up to me and informed me that she lived in Dominica with her uncle, and they are from Ghana, I am not going to say what position her uncle held in Dominica, or what they were doing there so as not to reveal her identity. It just so happened we were taking the same class, this woman was not very bright, she tried very hard, struggled to maintain a 2.0 GPA; before the finial the professor suggests in order for her to pass the class it would be in her interest to write a paper on a certain subject, he assigned to her.

This lady was not even capable of doing that; she asks me for help, I sat up all night with her in my house, did some research on the subject, and wrote the paper for her, she passed the class based on that paper with a 3.0 GPA for that semester. I never herd the word thanks you from her; from the day the semester was over, to this very day, I have not got a single call from her, before that my phone would ring off the hock.

And that’s the way they are, pompous, and lie like hell, they all are born to royalty, they all came here to study, on government scholarship; they all came from rich families, and are attending some University, and when you check on them you find they are all over the place working as security guards. I have a girlfriend, one of them tried to fool told her, he claimed he attending a certain university on the East cost. Linda and I called the University to verify, only to find out that the man was never registered there, never attended that university. So, we did our thing, and track him down, followed him to his apartment in Santa Monica, and when he went in and closed the door Linda went and knock on the door and confronted him.

Reminds me of one of them who used to walk with a briefcase wherever he went; and was always quick to say to Black West Indians “I am no factory hand, I did not come here to work in no factory; playing big shot, until one day whiles on the cross walk crossing the street, he got hid by a car, his briefcase flew in the air, and dropped exposing al he had in it which turned out to be old newspaper’s.

Celebrate the Africans if you wish if that is going to help you win your seat, so that you can continue living off the fat of the hog, while the poor of the country suffer in poverty. Perhaps you can remind the Africans that it was they the Africans who sold our forefathers to the slave traders, and into slavery!

To my knowledge and as far as I can remember, the Telemaque’s are fair-skinned people. Are you of French heritage?
I share your sentiments. Africans have prejudices against West Indians. West Indians are friendlier, more honest and trusting people.
The same has occurred in Canada with the Africans. I have heard some stories about the African men and how they treated some West Indian women. I know a few of the women. Africans are generally not trustworthy We are not of the same culture and we should not forget that.
I know of one whose Father was an African, born in England whose mother was from Scotland and who was in love with a West Indian. He was then attending university. After he graduated they got married. They moved to another part of Canada. Someone told me he died. Sadly, he was not that old. He was a friendly person and was always smiling. He had mixed pigmentation, very fair. This is the only one whom I know who married and remained married “til death do we part.” I still remember his name.
I am never enthused that West Indians/Dominicans refer to themselves as Africans. We are all of different parental heritage but the emphasis is on being African with no thought of the other part of our heritage.
Some West Indians/Canadians of West Indian heritage celebrate Kwanza at Christmas. Once I telephoned a relative’s home and the daughter answered the phone saying, “Happy Kwansa”; not Christmas. I did project my opposition to it.
They are too much involved in this African culture. I am not against learning about the African culture but some of them overdo it as much as to have an African Week with celebrations.
If Africans have a celebration, as a means of socializing and wishing them well, I am not against attending.
Personally, knowing the feeling between Africans and West Indians and vice versa, I would find it difficult to celebrate African Week for we are not full-fledged Africans. It does not mean that if one is organized and I am available I would not attend. However, it is enough to simply converse with Africans whenever we meet and socialize with them. This would be as far as our interaction will go.
Not everyone may agree but this is how I fell. I did comment similarly last year when this African Week was being celebrated.

Well, you have a right to your opinion, however I researched my family name which dates back to more than five hundred years, the name is documented in Vatican for more than five hundred years, I found it in Vatican Rome in 1977! And since you are an authority on Roman Chatholism perhaps you can contact your pope, and let him tell you how it got there.

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I found it in Denmark, only that in Denmark they use the spelling “Thelemaque”, some people in Haiti also spells it Thelemaque, Some in Louisiana it that way, when I enquired, I was informed it depend on who registered the new born, and how efficient they English was. The correct way however, is Te’le’maque which is French, the British, or English speaking people spells it this way “Telemaque” without the accent. To those concern, and like to call me a liar, there is a spelling “Telemark” that has no relation to Telemaque, there is a region somewhere in Austria known as Telemark, hence a move was made in the late 1950/1960’s called Heroes Of Telemaque. There is a book out on that. It took me twenty five years researching my name, and found it originated in Dakar in Senegal in West Africa. I have documentation from the Minister of Culture in Senegal to prove that. The last person I communicated with twenty five years ago during my research was Senor Hassan Sect, he died last Summer, went from the minister of Culture to the President of Senegal, so you all can talk all the crap you want Francisco is not one who shifter at the insignificant rhetoric of anyone. Anyone who wish to find out if he ever lived, all you have to do is call the Senegalese Embassy in the country where you reside, ask if he ever lived okay!

Now there has always been light complexion people in my family, what’s the difference, every complexion of people derive from Black people, everybody is the same complexion, the difference is simply in the contents of melanin in the skin. I know some of you right now has declared me mad, but before you commenced running off your mouth, you had better be sure you know something about genetics, and Melanocytes the specialized epithelial cells that synthesize the pigment melanin, meaning black, found in the deepest layer of the epidermis (skin) of humans. No reputable medical doctor can refute that statement, I have no intention of detailing how it works, anybody who whish to know perhaps you can go and major in Health Science, where one may learn about such.

So, I do not know exactly where you wish to take your argument, since you are getting on the color of one skin. I assure you though I am living under my original family surname, that means I might be a very unique, person of African decent living under a real family surname, and not a slave name, as for the theory of colonialism mentality, that does not apply to me, I am too educated for that!

I had my personal experience, I stated it, anybody who wish to contradict me, is a damn fool because you were not there, anybody want to kiss up to Africans, that is your purgative, all I know is that I am of African decent, and that’s as far as that goes, I am not an African, I am Dominican born!

I agree with Mr Telemaque, Dominicans have no real ties or connections with Africans, Term ‘African’ itself is very broad. You can relate to some part of Africa. Dominicans I guess have roots in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Angola…but again what do you really know about those countries, about those people….As Mr. Telemaque correctly pointed: nobody in Africa waits for you or care about you. Instead of looking for mythical African roots, please better deal with some real issues in Dominica: poor quality of education, absense of normal funding for sport, poverty etc…After all you have a beautiful country which you need to develop and modernize, instead of it you entertain yourself with some rubbish: looking for your connections with Africa, discussing compensation for slavery, blaming everybody and everything for your miseries etc…

@ Francisco Etienne… it could be you didn’t have deodorant, or your breath why they move… It could be your funny dressing, because if you were wearing any of those get ups you have on line, even MB would scram…

You are too ignorant and haughty. I live in the US, went to University with Africans and became really close with people from Tanzania, kenya and Benin and to this day we call each other brother and sister. I have been to Benin and Sierra Leone and the welcome I got and have pictures to show was overwhelming for me. I visited with a Masai family in Kenya and one of the most touching experiences I had, was when the chief took my hand, rubbed it in goats blood and then his, followed by every other member and then wrapped his cape around me. What were they doing? they were welcoming one of their own home. You lie too damn much. Africa is a continent made up of many countries, within which lies many tribes and customs. Many Africans didn’t even know about the slave trade to the Caribbean since they were dealing with slavery by the Arab invaders at the same time. You think you are too brilliant for your own good. You are lying Francisco.

“Many Africans didn’t even know about the slave trade to the Caribbean since they were dealing with slavery by the Arab invaders at the same time. You think you are too brilliant for your own good. You are lying Francisco.”

Well, if you are stating that many Africans did not know about the slave trade, then which of us is a liar? If you claim you went to Sierra Leon, and you say Africans did not know about the slave trade which is common knowledge in world history; that makes you not only a liar, but a bloody confounded fool, and your associates in Africa, are as dumb as you are; because, Sierra Leon was built, and became a small country in West Africa, built built emancipated slaves from the Caribbean, and America, who chose to return to Africa, after the emancipation of slavery in the Americas and the Caribbean!

To this day there are people from Trinidad, who has modern day connection to families of slaves who returned there, that is why when a former President of that country got into some trouble and was arrested, and charged for corruption of stealing diamonds, he sent his wife to Trinidad, his father as a matter of fact is from Trinidad: now how do you anticipate he got to Sierra Leon? Hint, people under normal circumstances do not immigrate to Africa.

If you think I am too brilliant for my own good, I can tell you the knowledge which I possess, not even in your dreams, or wildest imagination can you ever gain my knowledge, most of what I have forgotten, you have not yet learnt, and I suspect you never will.

If you are so intelligent, you would not have indulge in the such conduct talking about deodorant, and bad breath; that tells me you are an idiot, only ignorant people behave that way, I am surprised you did not ask me who’s bom-bom fly am I. Worst of all; all of the shipping ports in West Africa where the Slaves were shipped from still exists, and attracts millions of tourist per year. From one such place there is a straight line to the Port of Roseau in Dominica, and if memory serves me correct, the Slaves were displayed and sold in the old public market, right next to the old Post Office in Roseau. I sat on one of the slabs, or blocks on which they stood the slaves on to be displayed and sold when I was a kid, my grandmother ensured I came into that knowledge.

And if the people involved in tourism had any sense, such artifacts could become a tourist attraction in Dominica.

You can curse, you can rant, you can rave, that will not change my experience, and whether you think I am a liar or not, it does not mater. If you are so truthful, I challenge you to write your truth under you name. Only liars use aliases and fictitious names. I challenge you to present to me any picture of me that you found on the Internet warring shabby and cheap cloth. When I had my Website that is the only place you may have seen a picture of me, and I dressed appropriately, and not in any cheap thread’s: So, I can tell you without any doubt you do not know me,you are not talking about Francisco Telemaque okay, you are delusion

So, just burry your demented crack cocaine head between your legs, and shut your blasted mouth, because the fumes, which emanates from it can kill an Elephant. There are lots of Dominicans here in Los Angeles who knows me, and nobody can say I live a poor lifestyle, I am a man of class. My life style you cannot afford, so just shut up, and eat you damn heart out!

I am not a negative person. You were fortunate to receive this type of welcome. Nevertheless, some Africans do not care for West Indians. West Indians whom I know through the years are fully aware of that.
Cultures vary. I wonder if you married one what would have happened and if he brought you back to his country.
A West Indian married an African and was taken to Africa. She died. No one knew what caused her death.
Another one also married an African and returned to Africa with him. He had many wives. She was only one among many. She was fortunate to return to Canada where she was previously residing.
Another one married a West Indian. He left her with child and returned to his country. She never heard from him.
Another married an African who bilked her and left her with numerous debts. They had children. She was left to support them. He apparently left the country and no one knew where he was.
The Government was searching for him so he could honor his obligations toward them. His wife recently told me after some years she heard he died in the U.S., a few years ago. Somehow she found out.
A few of them befriended women while in university. Obviously the women were financially generous to them and also fed them. They got pregnant. They never saw those men again. They are separate situations.
Therefore, do not state to Telemaque that he lied. I believe what he stated. Similar situations occurred in Canada. Your experience was an exception.

Right on point Francisco, right on point. African American service members have had the same experience while we were stationed in then West Germany. The Africans, many of them refugees, looked down on us as different and not equal to them. Therefore, I fully support your excellent comment and the lady has no clue of what she’s talking about.

        Thank you sir!

One way or the other, the truth always comes to the surface, we can sit on it, we can bury it, we can hide it for a while, but what ever takes place in darkness always come through in the light. My friend, there was a time in the 1970’s when some African nations invited Blacks in the Caribbean with any kind of skills to come to their country and invest. That invitation came through Mogabe when they toured the Caribbean looking for support when they intended to take over the world, hence the late Rosie Douglas would take Dominica, while the late Tim Hector, would have taken Antigua, I am not getting into that anyway.

I have a friend in Antigua, who worked in a travel agency owned by the Derricks, the same people whom Lennox Linton worked at their Radio Station. I worked for Vincent Derrick at one time also. This lady with her experience in the travel industry went to Nigeria, and set up a travel agency, she spent hundreds of thousands of dollars setting up the business, in less than one year, after setting up her business, she was back in Antigua, broke.

The Africans robbed her blind, took all her money, hence she returned to Antigua penniless. You see I have no reason to lie about anything, the truth is I know who I am, I am not running for anything, and surely my comments are not maliciously intended. As far as I know I have a relative in Wesley who is married to an African, they met in Cuba while she was studying there, he was also a student there, I do not know if they still live in Wesley, so I do not wish that anyone to get the wrong idea.

Here is an experience I had here also, I worked for an Electronic Company called Acuadata Systems; they were involved in all sort of military electronics, the first space shuttle which went up, I the kid from Wesley worked on the recording system that went up with it, recording everything which transpired while the Astronauts were in Space. I was was employed as an electronic technician then, and part of my duties were to conduct test on the same, there was an technician from Nigeria working there also. One day in the Lab, I told the guy, I was in the process of buying my first house, that was in 1984 two years after I got here. His name is Joseph Adajarah, the guy asks me, how much I was paying for the house. I told him, the man pulled out his calculator, and made his calculations, and informed me: “Francisco, if I am working for more money than you, and I cannot buy, how are you going to buy this house.” I responded by saying to him Joe; where there is a will there is a way. Needless to say I bought my first house here two on a lot, I still own that property.

The next thing I know we were working on the same space shuttle program, I was supposed to relieve him at midnight; you know what that guy did to me, he gave me the wrong ATP, (that is the approved test procedure); he showed me at what stage the test was, I continued using the wrong ATP, the next thing I found out by morning is that I have been working all night doing the wrong thing flipping all the wrong switches, causing the system to fail. I had to trouble shoot the whole system only to find out the man set me up. I called our supervisor in, they concluded he deliberately screwed me with the hope I would loose my Job. He got his due, they fired that joker, and promoted me into the Engineering Department!

In regards to Germany, I lived in the Cuxhaven about three hundred miles from Hamburg, but nearer to Bramahaven. I enjoyed Germany, I hope you did also.

Boy today for the first time I actually read all of your comments. Every word is so true my brother I could not stop laughing.
When people do not know certain things they will say whatever they want, but for us Dominicans who leave around the Africans know what they are all about.

We cannot become desensitize and embrace any thing in life if we only wait for focus to be placed on the observance once a year or when we come make a speech and the following day we return to business as usual, it will never happen. Boy we just not ready, and will never be. Boy I think our “PM” might read D.N. O while in China. our ‘PM” is sure to return with promise of our International AirPort work will begin in not years, not months, but in Days. Labor Power!!!!!!

Oh yes! I am certain the PM reads DNO even when he is in D/ca. If not or if he does not have time to do so, his deputy or an assistant will read it and keep him informed of the Dominican News. Therefore be good!

      what is your problem….

    • May 20, 2014

Usually I’m the first to question politicians’ motives, but in this case, if Africa Week was successful and popular, why wouldn’t it be okay to make it a regular event?

It is a yearly event for years now sir. The government usually donate nearly all the money towards the week every year since the DLP came in power because before them, the other political parties did not want anything to do with this event, Please do your research before you come on and comment. Before it is called African Liberation Week, The name was change to Africa Week because Internationally it was changed to Africa Week .the event hasnt not been quite successful because of the mentally of the Dominicans towards the event (another reason why internationally name changed removing liberation) are very biased about the whole ‘Africa’ topic.
I bet I’m over a decade younger than you and i have all my info. Urrrgggg The problem in Dominica, No one does their research and they just through foolish comments all over the place.

      • May 21, 2014

I didn’t make a comment, foolish or otherwise. I asked a question, and you answered it with interesting information. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?

Soon you will want a Muslim celebration and a week.
I did not access that Website. You are aware of the shocking news that over 200 student girls were kidnapped by renegade Muslims in Africa? They want to sell them. What a scandal and shame! They are atrocious crimes. Children at that? You should be concerned and ask your confreres to release those children to their parents.

Muslim always what are your views on Boko Haram? what about this bombing in Nigeria as recent as yesterday with a rising death toll 119 and counting? Long before these girls disappeared I asked you about Boko Haram on this forum and you are yet to answer. Why is a pregnant Sudanese married woman sitting in jail, awaiting execution by stoning her to death because she is a christian and the father who abandoned her and her mother was Muslim? why aren’t you addressing these sad issues. What about Amina Lawal Kurami?

        May 22, 2014

I have been hearing about the Sudanese woman; also on the US Catholic Radio. How sad.
She was a Christian since a child. She is nine months pregnant or almost. They are waiting for her baby to be born and weaned. After that she will be given 100 lashes and then executed. These people are wicked. What heartlessness on their part. If only God would strike them down but he is patient.
I am writing to my MP about that and request the intervention of the government of Canada. I expect others will do likewise.
Many prayers are offered for her especially in the Catholic world. Please pray for her that her captors, persecutors and executioners relent. Get others to do likewise. May God assist her.
