KYC hosts Pappyshow Wedding in New Jersey

Participants at the event

Once again, the Know Your Culture Dance Group (KYC) wows the audience with its outstanding performances at their annual Pappy Show Wedding/Festival which was held on Saturday March 3rd, 2012 in Newark NJ.

This event was a true reflection of Dominica’s carnival. The program included dances to popular calypsos such as “Tennis Shoe Tongue, Erica why yay yay”, Jing Ping and drumming band and others.  A special dance honoring Jeff Joseph of Grammacks was performed by the adult dancers who danced to the song “Mi Deba woo yoo yoo”.

Performers included dancers between the ages of 3 – 52 who delivered performances that brought the audience to their feet.   The show featured some of Dominica’s Carnival Dances which depicted various traditional costumes such as the Souswell Souris bat-like costumes, The Madame Gros Bondah, Sensay and many more.

Present in the audience were dignitaries such as; Director of Caribbean Tourism Organization, Members from the Caribbean Heritage Committee, and Aid to the Council woman Andrea McPhatter.

The Pappy Show wedding with its outrageous costumes and story line brought the show to its climax but this was not the end of the festivities.  The evening continued with music, food and drinks and everyone had a great time until the wee hours of the morning.

KYC mean Know Your Culture. Please read the article before making those statement. Know Your Culture is working so hard to showcare Dominica culture in the US and that is a good thing. I believe this is the best think for our kids that are born there or left Dominica a long time to know their roots. KYC keep doing what you can and who ever it is that is running the group. Keep it up.

Yes, it is news, sometimes I am irritated by the comments that some people leave on this site that bring us so much information about our country and people both home and abroad. I wonder if our people are that dumb. These people try their best to keep us informed especially those that are not residing in the country and the comments that are made here are so outrageous, its a shame.
