Midnight Groovers to honor Jeff Joseph tonight

Jeff Jo

The Midnight Groovers out of Grandbay will this evening play a special tribute on the Main Street in St. Joseph in honor and memory of the late musical icon Jeff Joseph who died in Martinique last week Wednesday.

The event will commence from 7 pm.

Jeff Jo, who was also Dominica’s Goodwill Ambassador, will be buried on Saturday in St Joseph.

Hundreds of Dominicans, included officials, are expected to attend the funeral.

I DO NOT DANCE ,I DO NOT GO TO CHURCH EITHER .I AM NOT FOR NOR AGAINST JEFF’S AND HE LIFE STYLE,NOR THE TRADE HE CHOSE.
WE ALL HAVE TO OR MUST PLAY A ROLE IN EVERY DAY LIFE BECAUSE THERE ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIFFERENT LIFE STYLES AND WE MUST LEARN TOLERANCE IN ORDER TO RESPECT THEIR WAY THEY CHOOSE TO LIVE AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT AFFECT ONE ANOTHER.
IF JEFF WAS SO IMPORTANT TO OUR SOCIETY WHY IS HE HONORED ONLY AFTER HIS DEATH ? IT IS TIME FOR GOV’T TO PUT AN END TO THEIR HYPOCRITEEEE ATTITUDESSSSS;PEOPLE NEED TO BE HONORED WHILE THEY ARE ALIVE NOT AFTER THEIR DEATH,,,JEFF SAID IN ONE OF HIS SONGS …ITS GO WE ARE GOING ,HE HAS LEFT BEFORE ME AND MANY OTHERS BUT WE MUST FOLLOW…RIP JEFF.

I must check Loftus on that. Like you if I remember correctly Groovers did share the stage with Grammacks at the very first Harlem Jam in Dominica at the Newtown Savannah in 1973. That was the biggest baddest and boldest. Grand Bay alone poured in about five groups:Groovers with Flacci,(Chubby)Co, Pollokes Lavinier (the finest bass man Grand Bay ever produced), Leo from Pte. Michel etc.; Black Machine with Perez& Zyro St. Hilaire, Mala, Olauda, Mabo etc.; Honeycombs with Jules,Stan (Kaywana’s father) Patto, Alain etc; Outcasts with Brine, Patrick, Pomp, Duggan etc. and a cultural group: La Jeune Etoile Chorale under James “Jakka” Alexander. Henry and the Saints from the Virgin Islands was there. And Grammacks was also there…resplendent in an all white attire.
But that is a superlative gesture by Ole Flacci (Chubby)& the Groovers…reminiscent of the Grand Bay road-side jams in the very early 70’s. Yes a superlative gesture fitting of this another Jeff Jo moment…superlative … yes superlative.

A general saluting a general. Man, I like that…These are two brothers who have carried DA on their backs for decades. We could not ask for more. Rise Dominica, Rise…and show Maf (Jeff Jo) that as we weep, we are ready to send him home in grand style.

I was just looking at a picture that Jeff and I took together in 1983…Sail on, mate…Sail on. Peter Tosh, Marley, and Hendrix are waiting for you…sail on…I am sure they will make you the front-man.
