As part of Dominica’s Independence celebration today is being observed as National Heritage Day.
Heritage Day is usually celebrated in a different village every year. This year it is being held in the Village of Vielle Case.
Heritage Day is usually a celebration of the village’s uniqueness. It celebrates the people and aspects that make that village what it is.
Outstanding individuals of the village are given awards as a token of appreciation for the development of the community.
The event usually includes a church service and a cultural gala.

So much TA-LA-LA and Roro surrounding the Parl. Rep of Vieille Case, dual citizenship case, irresponsible comments re. assistance to Gadaffi, when the whole world condemned the dictator for his brutality against his own libyan people, $27,000,000.00 contract awarded to Chinese Co. to build President State palace, Emanuel vs. Isidore Case, firebombing of Emanuel’s home and questionable reactions of those in Govt., status of investigations re. firebombings of Emanuel home and the police who is investigating money-laundering, passport sales and scams, villas and ownership of those, rubbish bin and Fertlizer scandals/Bobols, WikiLeaks revelations informing us, among others, on CLICO and financing of DLP election campaign in Dominica.
CLICO now in financial problems. Dominican investors money, about $190.4 million, into that insurance scheme in trouble. All those are bad news for Skerritt.
Why wasn’t the decision of the Committee upheld? The Committee responsible for selecting a community and helping to stage the event decided to hold Heritage Day in another Community, but for no convincing reason, the Committee’s idea was cast aside, rejected. The authorities thought it would be more in their leader’s interest and good PRO stint to stage it in Vieille Case instead. All in an effort to pour water on all those burning national issues and to usher praise on the one in the midst of many of those roro.
You could fool some of the people some of the time, but you could never fool all of the people all of the time. Never. No lie, No amount of deception will last forever.
Given what is going on in Dominica, given the many instances of corrupt practices, increase in crime, violence, greed, selfishnes, disrespect for the Constitution and laws, disregard and neglect of human beings’ first involvement in any cultural activity, AGRI-CULTURE, those are not the Heritage we would like to leave for those to come.
A heritage of stealing, Lying, bribery, robbery, firebombings of innocent people’s homes, money-laundering, drugs, human trafficking, kick-backs and all the other ills that are practised and condoned is what we want for Dominica? The trend speaks for itself.
Hope Heritage day in Vieille Case this year would not be another of the pranks and sideshows aimed at propping up those who think the rest of us Dominicans are too blind to see and too foolish to understand. En passant, on display will be locally made items made by the community to show their past and present lifestyles. A lifestyle that exemplified hard work, instead of dependence on hand-outs, true community spirit and working together in honesty. Those moral and ethical virtues many have already been thrown out of the window.
