DA Next Level Sports Management and Recruiting Groups launches sports academy

Student-athletes during training

The 767 Nature Island Elite Sports Academy was launched in Roseau with a bang on November 11-12. A two-day speed and agility camp hosted by Certified Professional Trainer Shervon Barthelmy of SGB Athletics LLC based in New York was successfully facilitated at the Windsor Park Stadium by DA Next Level Sports Management and Recruiting Groups.

Various drills were performed to give student-athletes an edge in performance. Proper running techniques were demonstrated, as well as take-aways for solo training. The athletes were all tested preliminarily to determine their Top Speed (MPH), Top Speed (M/S), AVG Speed (MPH), AVG Speed (M/S), Step Length, and Front Side Mechanics.

Testing will be repeated at a later date in order to compare metrics and gauge progress.

Self-described as providing “opportunities to expose student-athletes, to college coaches,” the ultimate aim of Da Next Sports Management and Recruiting Group is to get student-athletes recruited.

However, in order to accomplish this goal, the focus is not just on improving performance and getting athletes noticed.

The organization reportedly takes a more holistic approach by working “with the athlete, the parents, the private sector, sporting organization, and the Government to create exposure at sports combines, showcases and with personal trainers.”

Mr. Barthelmy specializes in speed and agility, specifically in improving the gait cycle and providing clients with individualized training that strives for athletes to move freely without joint pain.

He describes his process as “an accumulation of all that I have learned through fitness and begins with learning how to re-code and undo all the stress our bodies have endured up until now. We start from the basics and work towards functional ways of moving in order for our bodies to rotate properly and keep our head aligned with our feet. In short, we work from the ground up.”

Dominica was once the bread basket of the sub-region. This country was also the Mecca of sports (cricket, football, basketball, netball) in this region. One self-centered, unlettered, incurious ignoramus has damaged the sporting prowess of the country almost beyond repair by allowing the sporting facilities and programs to fall into serious disrepair.

To recapture our once sporting prominence in the region, will take generations with a government led by a more caring and astute leader. The present Dominica legislature is a Circus, and Starboy of Stupidity the ringleader.
