Twenty (20) students from seven (7) primary schools in Dominica will now find it easier to attend secondary school this year, thanks to the Dominica America Scholarship & Culture Inc (DASCI).
At its virtual awards ceremony held earlier this month, DASCI presented the students with scholarships valued at US$750 each to further their secondary education for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.
One student from the United States was awarded a scholarship in the amount of US$1,000 to attend college.
DASCI is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization mostly comprised of Dominicans living in Florida. Every year, the organization invites students from a select number of Primary Schools to apply for scholarships. A number of schools from various school zones are chosen each year so that, over time, all schools will have an opportunity for their students to participate in the Scholarship Program.
This year, the scholarship recipients from Dominica are from the following primary schools: Western District SDA – nine (9) students, Pioneer Prep – one (1) student, Massacre – one (1) student, Bellevue Chopin – two (2) students, Thibaud – one (1) student, Baroness P Scotland – four (4) students, and Clifton – two (2) students. The names of the students and school principals will be posted on the DASCI website.
School principals play a critical role in facilitating the application process for their students. Ms. Esther Robinson Principal of the Pioneer Prep Primary School, voiced her support for the program and noted that “so many lives will be positively impacted”.
DASCI has been awarding scholarships to Primary School graduates bound for Secondary School in Dominica since 2007 and, to date, has awarded 86 such scholarships with a combined value of US$49,700. The program is open to students requesting financial assistance and who meet the scholarship requirements set out in the application.
DASCI will kick off its scholarship awards cycle for the 2023-2024 school year in early January 2023 with direct notification to the principals of the chosen schools. Principals of those schools and their students graduating in 2023 should look for the announcement and program details on DASCI’s website at www.dasci.org.
DASCI is committed to investing in the education of young people and looks forward to continuing the work.
Dominicans living in Dominica DOH WANT LABOUR! Only those on welfare in America who “woke” bad and come back home and fight with Labour Party Members living in Dominica for house. Loosers
If I ever write something in this DNO forum again, it is going to be only mapwis, like Lin clown and Man bite dogs, nothing scholarly!
Because AHOLES like you think all you UWP can go about telling lies about the Prime Minister, and the DLP, and Lin Clown and Man Bites Dog will not expose your lies.Crooks, traitors, lazy liars and habitual criminals. That is the reason UWP lost more than 1,000 votes in the last election, stupidity and lies
With a response like AHOLES, you just gave a grand demonstration of your inability to contain yourself, complete lack of civic decorum, and the lack of a cohesive command of the English Language. (HADDY SOT)- if he called me an AHOLE, then DNO cannot censure my response.
You are a bowler because you can only score less runs, nothing from a morerun cricketer like you.
Minus the diaspora, then it would have been -1000 votes for Labour! Dominicans living in Dominica do want you!
That “scholarship” just not a scholarship at all. Just say donated money.
The big empty-headed monster is back with a different spelling, and for that I will make a compromise.
Still lacking in inductive and deductive reasoning.
DASCI receives donated money in some instances, and do fund raisers to fund our scholarship program.
