DDA/DFC promise easier travel to Dominica for this year’s World Creole Music Festival

Festivals and Event Manager, Samantha Letang

The Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) continue to work with their transportation partners to make travel easier for visitors to and from Dominica for this year’s World Creole Music Festival (WCMF).

This was according to Acting Festival and Events Manager, Samantha Letang during a weekly press conference.

She said the work continues to bring a memorable experience to all patrons.

“We are very pleased to announce that we have had discussions and formally now we have some additional flights that have been added to Dominica for the World Creole Music Festival,” she said.

Letang continued, “For LIAT, we have Antigua via St Kitts on Wednesday, October 26,” she revealed. “Caribbean Airlines has two additional flights from Kingston or Miami to Port of Spain on Wednesday, October 26, with connections onwards to Dominica on Thursday, October 27.”

She added, “The second flight is Barbados to Dominica and Port of Spain direct to Dominica on Thursday, October, 27. We have same-day connections from New York, Georgetown, and Grenada.”

She believes that this is very good news for Dominica.

Dominicans and visitors alike are being encouraged to visit DFC’s Facebook and Instagram pages for more details on these flights.

Furthermore, she encouraged visitors to book their flights early because seats are already being filled.

Persons are also being encouraged to book their accommodations in Portsmouth.

“There are a number of fully furnished apartments still available in the Portsmouth locale and additionally there is a shuttle service provider from Portsmouth to Roseau and back available for EC$50 or US$20,” Letang explained.

They are advised to contact certified Taxi operator Alexis Taxi Service at 767-235-5326.

According to Letang, the festival village experience which takes place during the WCMF on the Windsor Park Forecourt is expected to bring together a number of performers.

She revealed that this year there will be a different theme for every night.

“Friday is going to be an Afro Zouk session, Saturday is going to be Soca and Bouyon and Sunday will be Calypso,” Letang revealed.

She reported that there will be entertainment from a number of cultural groups added to that line-up.

Miss Letang, I don’t know how often you travelled but it appears you have little experience, I mean you seem to think it is a good thing to travel to Dominica when you first have to fly to Guiana or Trinidad , Jamaica or even Barbados. Who says you catch your connecting flight and how much is all that going to cost you then, just to come and jump up in Dominica for an artist from Nigeria never mind getting back . I know most of us love our country but that does not mean people are daft.

OMG, mediocrity definitely rules this place! To make travel easier they have a few more flights ‘via’ and a few more ‘with stopover’ in…! In essence they have nothing, they have no additional flights and they have no better connection! That’s the sad truth. All you go and book a flight to DA. You will find out and by the way you would have to splash out a lot of money to by these poor connection flights to DA. Welcome to the WCF, welcome to Dominica. If it wasn’t to sad, I would definitely laugh!

We are announcing the ease of travel arrangements for festival 2 weeks before the event. Do we think this makes sense. Most people plan trips weeks and months in advance, they need to organize time off from work, childcare, get funds and outfits together. Wouldn’t it make sense to announce the line up in may or June and then the new travel arrangements by July or august so people can plan appropriately. Smh

We have twenty two years of a one party state rule in Dominica. The country is infrastructurally rearward in comparison to the rest of the Caribbean. Despite this the worst performing government remains in tact.

The air and sea ports leave much to be desired. Air lift to and from the country is woefully inadequate. Tiny St. Kitts accommodates the biggest cruise ships in the world, why can’t Dominica? There is a dire need for a new network of roads to facilitate more and easier commercial activity.

The Roosevelt regime majors in minor thus consequently stymies the potential and progress of Dominica. Incredibly, many Dominicans like it so. Dominicans are a unique set of masochists.

I believe these people are either lacking information or they just say what comes from their mouths. Air Antilles,Seabourne Airlines reduced their days of flying to Dominica and Air Sunshine in St. Thomas pulled out just before the Festival. It is very difficult to get to Dominica and out of Dominica and you guys continue miss informing people.

If you think this madness routing from Europe or North America to Dominica, only to be sent up and down the Caribbean before one can transit onto Dominica after overnighting, then you are not ready. Twenty years of Labour Party promises of better air access into Dominica and every year it is made worse!? It gets worse every year! With all the CBI money Labour giving away on houses, cars, turkey, ham, best the government buy and create Nature Island airline. Dame Eugenia gave us the Bayfront, UWP started the Stadium that the Chinese finished, but when Prime Minister Skerrit is gone what will be his legacy? It cannot be housing because every Prime Minister invested in Housing: Patrick John created Bath Estate village and Elmshall, OJ gave us Canefield housing scheme, Mamo added to Bath Estate to the West of the river and Elmshall. What has PM Skerrit done that we can say after he is gone look what he left Dominica? Oh yes, he promised us an international airport every election!
