DEAR BELLA: I have a problem with how some fat people dress

Bella,

Before I get thrown under the bus by readers let me say that I don’t have a problem with fat people. The problem I have is with the way some of them dress.

Bella, yesterday, I was somewhere in town and if I wasn’t sure that there was no such observance, I would say it was the Fat Disgraceful People Day.

Heavy women with short shorts under their butts and the darkness between their thigh are so prevalent.

After seeing one of them struggle to enter a van, a few blocks down I saw another woman…she must have been 300 pounds. The lady was wearing a jeans and all her behind expose. Poor jeans couldn’t even sit well on her body.

Bella, alas. I’m not a hater. Thick women are beautifully made but they must know and be told how to dress.

I sometimes wonder whether nobody at their home sees them and can point things out or even they themselves look in the mirror.

I know a lot of plump women in Dominica who dress well. Cover up and look sexy. But some fat women dress disgracefully.

I never liked fat and the kind of anger I am beginning to feel towards them, I am beginning to think maybe it is me with the mental issue.

Do you think me not liking the fat, skimpily dressed image makes me a hater? Or is it okay to feel that way?

Let me add that these huge women are always seen stuffing their face and that drives me crazy too.

Fat Hater.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Hello Fat Hater,

I have seen plus size women dress in ways that are not becoming.

I have seen slim women do the same thing. It’s really about how people feel in what they wear.

But losing sleep over what another person wears and how they look, is a bit extreme.

Just ensure that whenever you wear compliments your size and shape because really, however a person decides to dress up or dress down has everything to do with them and not you.

Bella

With the proliferation of the fast food business around the globe, it is not surprising that obesity and its medical risks factors are on the rise. Excessive indulgence in dasheen, fig, dumplings or any other carb heavy local food staple is just as unhealthy as eating too many Big Macs, Whoppers, french fries or pizza. Moderation is the key.

As far as your issue with fat people dressing inappropriately, that is a matter of fashion choice and etiquette which afflicts people of all sizes, ages and colors. That being said, what an individual chooses to wear is his or her personal choice. If anyone wants to venture out “toutinie” or scantily clad then that is their business and the law authority’s job to address.

Relax, mind your business and stop scoping between big people legs.

It’s a matter of societal standards.
Fat, skinny, well proportioned or athletic, tall or short, the standards are low.
Young and middle aged women and men seem to want to imitate the worst examples they see on TV or around them, thinking it’s attractive or acceptable. When in fact it does them a disservice. Any real man will tell you seeing a woman in a beautifully made Skirt or Dress to her size is way more sexy and attractive than common short shorts or jeans.
Some people want to be extreme to gain attention, when in fact they become so extreme, it makes you want to look away!

Short shorts or belly out cannot be wrong if worn by a fat person and right if worn by a slim person. You must get it right, don’t be confused. Indecency is indecency. Full stop.

Well said Bella, put simply, this person should just mind their own damn business.

Also, does anyone know how to get rid of the inner thigh darkness, asking for a friend.

Even though being this certain size is unhealthy and may contribute to hazardous complications it is one choice to choose how they dress yes some are quite skimpy but why don’t we tell of those who are smaller about the way they are dressed but when it comes to the bigger girls there is a problem many people feel confident in different ways and channel it different or maybe they are somewhat experiencing insecurities or harsh comments by individuals suggesting that they should change themselves. everyone is beautiful in the eyes of God one should not judge the others life style everyone chooses what he or she wants to do with their lives you don’t know what that one individual might be going through

You start by saying you don’t want to come across like you hate fate people but you end by saying you don’t like fat people. 8-O
Wuk sup sang about it a few years ago: gallon bottle model. But to each his or her own. Life is too short to worry about what people put on.

I know its a personal choice but I identify with the reader. Some people are disgustingly fat and they make things worse by not wearing their size or wearing clothes that do not compliment their bodies. We all have to make an effort to look good so there is no excuse. Nobody is telling you not to be sexy, but clothes squeezing and having your meat cut up in pieces all over you is not a good sight. You can show skin too, but wear your size and show it in the right places. Showing kwass between your legs is ugly stop it or find a way to keep that area clear. Again nobody hating on you fat people but stop disgusting our eyes. You cant be comfortable in these clothes I see you and I can tell. Stay sexy, dress well.

Obesity is not good – it’s a dangerous health risk – and people who are obese need to work on bringing down their size & weight through healthier lifestyle practices eg more exercising.

Your self worth must be extremely low trying to deflect from your own issues. It’s a personal choice and non of your bussiness. And if you really have a problem take it up with God he’s the one who created them. Fat girls I respect your confidence. Am a fat girl and Rocky it.

Channel 1 is right. You can be as confident as you want and have wonderful sense of self-worth. The fact of the matter is that obesity is not good, it is a dangerous health risk.

Stop deflecting and pay attention to your health.

@Breathe – Let them play dumb still with all their talk about they confident dis and dat.

They can be as confident as they want in their ignorance, one thing I know, confidence doesn’t negate the potential consequences and unnecessary expenses of willful dangerous lifestyle practices on the body.

You people are so deluded with this Fat Acceptance idea that you are too far gone to be saved. The Pan American Health Organization, that is run by our very own Dr. Carrissa Ettienne has Dominica at the top of the list for the worse obesity rates in the Caribbean, but here you are talking about false self confidence and seeing obesity as something good and healthy. If the Doctors and health experts cannot convince you guys to take care of yourselves and not follow these crazy ideas from the American media about Fat Acceptance then who is the local person writing to a column on DNO.
