Denzil Douglas wins passport case in St. Kitts

The court ruled that Douglas’ Dominican diplomatic passport did not require him to swear allegiance

Former Opposition Leader Dr. Denzil Douglas won the passport case brought against him by the Attorney General after Justice Trevose Warde ruled today in his favour.

As a result, Dr. Douglas won’t be barred from taking his seat on the National Assembly, the St. Kitts and Nevis Observer is reporting., .

Attorney General Vincent Byron said he was disappointed in the decision but will respect it.

Byron noted that an appeal may be possible.

Attorney for Dr Douglas Sylvester Anthony said they were confident of victory as the matter never was about law but politics.

The only occasion where Canada provided regular passports to non-citizens was during the Canadian Caper of 1980, when 6 American diplomats sought shelter with their Canadian colleagues in Iran (following the seizure of the American Embassy by Iranian militants). On that occasion, and with the consent of the Governor-in-Council, six Canadian passports were altered to provide those American diplomats with cover as Canadian citizens to enable their departure from Iran. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Caper

Canada does not give or sell their diplomatic passports to anyone. Only those individuals identified in the attached list qualify for issuance of a diplomatic passport (or, a special passport). They must be returned to the Passport Office upon completion of the purpose for which they were issued.

I may not be Dominican, as you say; nevertheless, I became an American citizen more than thirty years ago! Mind you, I go in and out of Canada anytime I wish; all I do when I am ready, is simply get into one of my cars and drive to Canada. I can go to any place I want in Europe, particularly England, Germany, and Denmark.

If I need to I can stop over in France for as as long as I too!

You yearn for that opportunity, don’t you?

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahashaha!

Anytime I want I can go Dominica, and Roosevelt and him goons doh can do me nutton, nutton, natton atall!

I am sure I missed the beginning of this episode, but what I really do not understand is why a former SKN Prime Minister – who is probably entitled to his own country’s diplomatic passport privileges because of his prior position – would hold a Dominican diplomatic passport in the first place? Any musings I have had about this odd situation have not brought me any reasonable explanation. On the face of it, Douglas doesn’t appear to have the same type of profile the others of ill-repute caught in possession of Dominican diplomatic passports. So what would be the benefit to him – and to Dominica? And why has he clung to it in the face of these legal actions? Would it have anything to do with recent news that SKN CBI funds have also gone astray? Looking forward to enlightenment…

There was a time not to long ago , when the black/woman didn’t need a passport to travel to the Colonies , He/She was shackled . Today , political decisions continue to divide individuals, and small Caribbean Nation States in general . The HATE that continue to exist among our People both political and otherwise , was never the norm . Why the continuance of hurting each other emotionally ? ” ONCE WATER HAS BEEN SPILLED , IT CANNOT BE SCOOPED BACK UP.” Swahili Proverb : Reason More .

All countries laws are different, not because one country law is Tom meaning yours must be Tom. Politics make government spend to much money for no reason. I also wonder why do government appoints an attorney general, reason being is that, that attorney should clearly knows that laws are different in other jurisdiction and advice clearly whether or not they have a case or not, before spending so much money for no reason at all.

So in what diplomatic capacity does he serve Dominica then? Can our P. M. grant somebody a diplomatic passport just like that, because someone may be friend or did a favour for him. Boy, that really making us look cheap and not serious.

If I was Denzil Douglas I would be happy but, if I was Roosevelt Skerrit I would be so embarrassed that I would resign. Not only that but according to Skerrit himself, If Dominica was a real country with a real police and CID, this matter would be a Dominica ongoing investigation to see if Denzil paid Skerrit for the passport and if so how much and where was it spent. But Dominica is not a real country so all sorts of crimes are taking place by those that should be stopping crimes.

That’s an embarrassment for me as a Dominican even if he won his case. Our passport cannot be a tool given or sold to people to help them fake their indentity or for them go commit or violate international laws like we see with Monfared. I am still red but I cannot take anymore of the embarrassment of Skerrit and if he doesn’t go I sure will leave my party for him and Melissa.

No surprise here. After finding Skerrit not guilty for owing allegiance to the French the Caribbean Courts are not going to rule against ‘precedence set by one of their own judges. We should have NEVER left the Privy Council.

Skerrit spreads trouble, confusion and division not only in Dominica but throughout the Caribbean and beyond. It was the Baroness then the international fugitives and now his bosom partner, Dr. Douglas. The country can take no more of the PM’s demonical behavior.

  14. Won but Lost
    February 20, 2019

Denzil Douglas may have won his case but the big loser in all of this is the tiny island of Dominica that was once again in a very corrupt, shady and crookid deal. Make it worse Skerrit was the one involved again and he was the witness in that case. But I know a lot of people that won murder case but they are carrying a world of guilt because they know they are guilty as hell.

This only goes to show how deep corruption is rooted in the Caribbean.

How can one have a Dominica diplomatic passport or any other Dominica passport in which it fraudulently states a person place of birth is Dominica when it is clear the man was born in St. Kitts can win a case like that! The verdict is bogus and corrupt.

There are many criminals posing around the world with Dominican passports, all due to one corrupt official in Dominica the man himself Roosevelt Skerrit who sells  our country to any criminal who has a few pennies.

In Douglas case he made him a Dominican by birth, how can a man be born in two different places. Where did he born first; Dominica or St. Kitts, If he cannot travel to the United States on his native country St. Kitts passport, now that the the State Department now knows he has a fake citizenship Dominica passport if he try to enter America with it he will be deported!

So is in my unreal country only the court does not rule against the Government. In cases where the ruling is obviously against the Government …..it is delayed until death does it part.

This case was baseless to begin with. The Attorney General of St. Kitts and Nevis knows that even St. Kitts and Nevis has diplomats that didn’t swear allegiance to or become a citizen of St. Kitts. Elections are due in a couple of months, so here comes the silly season.

Douglas already received his Judgement from the SKN people. These guys too crooked. Birds of a feather flock together, see who gave him his diplomatic passport..
