DLP candidate Dr. Cassandra Williams sees ‘key role’ for south east in helping Dominica become the Caribbean’s breadbasket

DLP candidate for La Plaine Constituency, Dr. Cassandra Williams

Dominica Labour Candidate for the La Plaine Constituency, Dr. Cassandra Williams has said that Dominica is well positioned to become the breadbasket of the Caribbean.

She made the statement while addressing supporters at her official launching ceremony held at Carib Junction in Delices on Thursday.

“I believe that Dominica is well positioned to become the breadbasket of the Caribbean and the communities of the south east have a key role to play in increasing production and strengthening our food systems,” Dr. Williams said.

According to her, the communities in that constituency are well-known for bay oil, toloma, farine and plantain production.

“We must open new avenues for La plaine, Delices and Boetica to develop these into world class products,” she indicated. “We will work vigorously to increase participation and production in profitable farm enterprises with the view to increase the capacity of farmers including our youth through improved technology, resilient infrastructure and best practices.”

Furthermore, Dr. Williams said the DLP will explore new markets for farmers and improve processing and production methods.

She also plans to encourage the decentralization of agricultural services to make greater use of the La Plaine Agricultural Training Centre and the La Plaine Cultural Station.

The 22-year old Dominica Labour Party  government recently announced that it had set the goal of increasing the contribution of agriculture to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to $700M by 2030.

Here is another prime example of how low 80% of Dominicas women are prepared to go in order to get a small slice of Skerrits CBI cake. It makes one sick! This one even has the gal to dress it up in agriculture, the same agriculture that was destroyed by her political master.

The good thing about this Labour party general elections campaign, is that the more Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and his Ministers speak, it is the more that they reveal and explain to Dominicans how much the Labour party has really failed Dominica and Dominicans over the past 22 years!
Their own words are betraying them! Everything that they say they would like to do has been repeated every elections over the past 22 years Labour party in office! But Dominicans do not care beyound some freebee handout koolout and Skerrit and his Ministers know that!

Great plans, but how do you accomplish this level of agricultural output, when basic infrastructure, such as motorable roads remain a challenge. The slightest hint of rainfall, and our infrastructure is destroyed or permanently altered. Furthermore, many of the agricultural stations that were once the backbone of technical expertise are no longer. These numbers are quite lofty, but no one has been able to explain how they will come about in actuality. Then again, most of the voters are not thinking beyond the many slogans by the Dominica Labor Party.

Lady i listened to you and for once i was almost convinced Dominica may have had another “Mamo” in the making but alas came the disappointment in our young and brilliant so called intellectuals; youngster you have a mind of your own, so don’t become a puppet of that wanna-be dictator, DLP, modern Jim Jones. What did you mean when you said that once you win, you would be seeking advise and partnership from “molly d donkey ‘to enhance sports in the area; woman you have just rewritten the script of “dumb” (skerrit) “dumber” (melissa) “dumbest” (cassandra); wise up girl you are from the east where the wise people came from.

I swear these DLP candidates have verbal diarrhea. This government has been in power for 22 years and all we have seen is a continual decline in agricultural production. Now this woman is talking about Dominica being a breadbasket of the Caribbean?

I few years ago, I visited Dominica for 2 weeks and after 10 days I realized I had not eaten a banana. I asked my aunt why she hadn’t cooked any bananas and she responded bananas are scarce in Dominica. Growing up you could not give away bananas, we had so much of it.
