DLP Marigot Constituency Association demands meeting

Member of the DLP Marigot Constituency Association Harold Tyson

Eight members of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Marigot Constituency Association have gathered on the Government Headquarters compound, demanding to meet with the Minister of Constituency Empowerment, Ambrose George.

According to reports, members of the Constituency Association learnt that there were intentions to cancel a meeting expected to take place in Marigot on Sunday, to discuss the internal conflict between member Harold Tyson and Senator Dayton Baptiste.

Tyson had expressed his dissatisfaction with Baptiste, who was the DLP candidate for the 2009 General Elections.

Dominica is too small to have all these contituencies. Too much lazy so called ministers and Parlreps sucking the blood of poor Dominica. Joint Marigot with carib reserve…problem solve.

  2. ATTENTION
    April 22, 2010

Mr. Baptist, since after the Election, has not met with the said teams which in spite of his disregard to the constituencies are instrumental in keeping the process moving. He must be informed that empty processes and petty hand outs is not what we need in Marigot. The question must be asked – why a constituency of such significance in the trust for national development has not been given closer attention. Please take a close look at it as it contains the main airport, the main fisheries complex. Three of the largest rivers, a hospital build by the people themselves which requires improvement and vast expansion of the agriculture and the list go on.

Tyson go for it – time that Marigot people stand up for what is right and don’t make people just do what they want with them.

    • May 20, 2014

What do you mean it’s time M’got people stand up for what is right we have been doing that for many years and do we get much done, we never use to hand out so what happen to us, people from my village we have to stop looking for those hand outs our parents is time gone by didnt they work hard so that we could be where we are today, now we are saying we are not going to do what they did which is tie their waist and go down in the soil but they made it why cant we today. Not everyone will and can get to move to the USA, England, Canada and other parts of the world so we have to face it and get with it. The grass is not always greener on the other side people.stop the foolishness .
No one should disrespect each other regardless what party they support I see it everyday and that have to stop no matter what was happening in M’got our folks in times gone would work together and help each other I remember when someone is building a house they would put a team of men together and they would all work on the house before you say house it is finish, if someone is ill they come together to help, I wonder what went wrong and dont tell me is TV, people are more selfish than before and we have to ask ourselves is that the kind of image we want to be passing on to our children enough is enough. We have procedures and we must follow them working out of the box have it’s place but the ISLAND is in shamble we all have to come together to do our part stop the begging and be littling of one another.
Some will always have more than others but dont allow that to go to your head instead reach out to those that are not that fortunate treat them with respect and dont take advantage of them just for personal gain and remember when something is wrong it is wrong.
It’s not Tyson, Christmas,Baptist thing it’s a M’got thing and so it becomes a DOMINICA matter M’got was always the first to lead take time to learn the history of our village and you will see what I’m saying speaks volume, I wousd suggest that all the paties involve to come together with their committee and decide how to move forward instead of bashing each other be cicilized and respectfull we live in a democratic state.

Put the politic aside. Tyson for those of you who don’t know is an experienced and innovative person with sales, customer service and business administration skills. High personal integrity and able to relate to and create trust in all. Highly articulate, confident and persuasive team-builder, able to motivate and communicate to achieve exceptional performance. He is dependable and reliable in supporting and enabling team effort to produce genuine long-term sustainable development. Persistent and flexible.

Tyson Career History fare so past what many think – his years of being a teacher/tutor, being a tailor. Being a radio announcer, his time of working at KPMG International, Responsible for the IT Platform and to ensure full compliance with International Standards and many many more… He now serving on the Marigot Village Council, these and all the other service he have given to Marigot. We know Tyson but not Baptist.

I am confused about this issue because it appears very much internal.

Why would this guy take this matter to the media first, before the party itself?

This to me will only result in undermining any chance that the DLP may have in obtaining a few extra votes, not that I think they will win the seat… But their chances may grow even slimmer.

Harold… is there a wolf in sheep’s clothing walking alongside you? Could there have been some poor, ill-informed guidance? Or are you blindly desperate, seeking attention from the higher ranks of the DLP without having to go through Mr. Baptiste?

Your manner of handling this issue is viewed as very irresponible by many, even though your cause is a just one, because people generally do not like arrogance.

But bear in mind that constituents have always had issues with the representives of the party (UWP, DLP, DFP etc) they support, and will continue to have issues with them.

Everything cannot be solved by the bashing of tongues and open war of words.

The issue at hand with Marigot Constituency is a just one. The association note with great concerns that even before the selection of Mr. Baptist as candidate for the 2009 General Election a contemptuous behavior were towards some of the executive members of the Association were express by Mr. Baptist and his campaign team. The executive decided to pursue with the prose in the most democratic manor by having the primary election process take place. However some unexplained manipulation took place and Mr. Baptist was imposed on the people.

The MARIGOT supporters of the DLP have a right to voice their dissatisfdaction but it is an in house matrter and should not be addressed in the Press they should find a common ground between themselves demand their Senator and the General Secretary of the party to attend the meertings because it is a serious situation not only for Senator Baptist but also for the PM and the DLP party in MARIGOT if they want to make in roads with the people.
We MARIGOTIAN do not stand for nonsense and we take our Village and peoples need very serious and we do need help thru out the Village we are part of DOMINICA and it is time that we deserve some of the goodies that all others Villages getting but we want it up front because we will not be bought.
So instead you guys keep trashing each other as to who is the best direct your energy towards getting MARIGOT moving regardless who is in power.
MARIGOT need an up todate HOSPITAL the main entry into the Island in thru our Village and God forbid if we should have a very serious accident we are not prepeard to handle much of anything we all need the Government to take that matter seriously and move to do sometjhing about it, also we need to have a Police Force that works with the people and do not expect anything in return evaluate each case and take the proper action to bring about justice, the days of I know who your parents are are gone you broke the LAW you pay the consequences, we need employment for every one who is willing to work I hope that the employment Agency that the Government is talking about will be able to have town hall meetings in the Village to encourage how one can go about finding a job also how to star up a business of their own. and what help they can get from them.
MARIGOT people we know that the election is over we have a PM in office regardless of how you voted now we have to move forward try to work towards builing up the Village do not allow politic to cloud you judgement think of what is good for our Village and its people what will make us believe in ourselves again. Let the COURT decide the complains of the Opposition Party do not let it be the do all and end of the move to make MARIGOT move to the next level.
And to the DLP party if you a looking for a foot into MARIGOT you better start respecting we the people do not take us for granded and get it thru your heads we are capable of knowning right from wrong.

Six of Dayton and half a dozen of Harold Tyson is the same darn thing. None ot these guys is better that the other. And thats the root of the problem. Each one thinks he is better suited for the job than the other. Both Young men were given an opportunity through the then Marigot Secondary School to further their education. Neither of them excelled. Harold however has a vey big ego which is no supported by his intellectual capabalities. Dayton on the other hand understands his limitations but he was given an offer and he accepted it. Having brought the man from Antigua to contest the elections he had to be compensated. Neither of the two young men in question can give Marigot any significant representation. So what’s the fuss. But thats ok keep fighting, We in Marigot will be excellent spectators.

While it is true that some are of the view that Baptist has gross limitation in his leadership manner, he should challenge such notions by been proactive on the ground and stop beating his chest as if he is the ALL MIGHTY more so he should allow humility to prevail because the task ahead is much bigger than what he seem to think it is and this is not a Harold Tyson thing – This is a Marigot matter.

Mr. Baptist should realize that he together with the few persons around him is not providing the correct forum or environment which will seek to address the many need of Marigot and the constituency. The attacked level at him should be seen as a called from the people and not from Tyson. Tyson is however representing the views of Marigot as he is charged with the responsibility as chairman of the Marigot DLP Constituency Association.

Poor self image and the past
Based on the past experience, the situations a person faces and the criticism he receives at early stages of his personality development some people might start to link the criticism they received to their looks.

A beautiful girl might have the belief that she looks like a dumb person because of the critical comments she used to receive in the math class when she was a child!!

As the person grows his mind starts to alter his perception of his own looks to match his beliefs about himself. For example, this girl we just talked about might believe that she has larger ears than others while in fact her ears look normal!!

Usually a person with such a distorted self image will be 100% convinced that his look are unpleasant to the extent that he will link social and career failures to his looks!!

It won’t sound odd to hear something like “if I was more beautiful I might have got this job” from such a person.

    The weak Point of Baptist:

Dealing with an arrogant person is much easier than you think. Just treat him as if he is not superior, I am not asking you to ignore him, just treat him as if he is like the other normal people and this will be enough to let him avoid you. The arrogant person is carving for attention so if you ignored him you will remind him of his old wound and this will let him forget about his superiority when dealing with you.

Impressing an arrogant person is very simple, just convince him that you can do something that is of importance to him better than him and he will become impressed. The moment you make those people believe that you are more powerful than them, they will stick to you like your shadow.

  22. Well well well
    April 21, 2010

Sen Baptist, Arrogance is a defense mechanism used by the subconscious mind in order to prevent further criticism. If someone had a terrible childhood and if he was hurt by others he may develop arrogance in order to prevent further criticism from hurting him, the trick usually works, because if someone criticized him he can simply devalue him and assume that he is worthless.

Arrogant behavior can be a result of feeling neglected. If someone felt that he is not getting all the attention he deserves, he may unconsciously become arrogant just to attract some of the lost attention.

Arrogant people are single minded, they either think that they are superior to others or inferior to them. This arrogant person who is intimidating you feels inferior to someone else because this is how his mind works, this arrogance may be nothing more than a way to cover this feelings of inferiority he experiences when dealing with someone else.

  23. Arrogant
    April 21, 2010

How to Deal with Arrogant Sen. Baptist:

The best way to deal with an arrogant person is to understand why he is being arrogant. This may sound odd, but the truth is, as soon as you know the reason behind his arrogance you will pity him.

Arrogant people think that they are always right, they think that they know the best answers to all life problems and they think that they are better than most of the ordinary people. Arrogance is no more than a shield that covers inner emptiness and sometimes an inferiority complex.

Harold Tyson is out of place and disrespectful. He has a record thats hows that he is a lover of himself, and seeks attention for leadership at any cost. Harold you should have gone to school and done better. BUT you do have a skill. You can sew… Get yourself together ask the same Mr. Baptiste for some funds and get oyour sewing shop going. You can be an entrepreneur in your own right. You must stop using Dayton to draw attention to yourself.. As far as I am concerned you have serious issues that you need to handle. You do not care about the people of Marigot like you claim. What can you do for Marigot Harold? … When you drove around in the rental you were fine, when you had access to the who is who in the party you were fine. What has happened now? You are disgruntled because you want to call the shots. Harold the campaign is over. KNOW YOUR ROLE! You played your part, now get with it, and leave Dayton alone. Natural leaders do not create conflict for position. You have not made one bit of sense in all this speaking to the media and planning to protest. You to damn like noticing! Again the campaign is over. What do you want? Dayton did not win, what do you really want? I suppose you want to run. I am not personal but Sen. Baptist has:

    Poor leadership skills.
Poor communication with electorates and key members and supporters of the DLP in the constituency.
    Poor management Skills.
Association/Executive members are denied credible information.
    Poor community relationship.
There are growing discomfort about his leadership by supporters in the constituency.
    Poor level of decision making.

These occurrences have caused considerable damage to the building process of the Constituency and by extension the party.

The people are frustrated by the deadening silence of the official of the party.

The people are convinced that something cynical is happening and that the process is not transparent and democratically handled by the party. They expect the people issues to be treated professionally and with a high level of respect.

    April 21, 2010

Baptist – enough is enough – you must go or get things right with the people. Mr. Tyson means well for Marigot and what he is doing is right. He is a very good leader.
We believe that the process and method used to select the Candidate for the last General Election of 2009 was not done in the interest of the people and is left with lots to be desired. For the period, pre and post the General Election, Mr. Dayton Baptist was and has been very inconsistent and as Senator he is very complacent and is certainly not ready for the post he holds in the Dominica Parliament. The Senator has not done anything to unify the people, start the building process, rather than attempt to build and mobilized the people, he is further dividing them. For that matter the Association held three meetings post Election where Sen. Baptist were invited, he conveniently absented himself from all three.

Presently there is a growing consensus that Sen. Baptist is not at all received by the people. Against this backdrop, we ask the following questions:
    i. We would like to know whether the senator is acting on instructions from the Hierarchy of the DLP as we find his behavior is not right.
ii. Should that be the case, are we to believe that the National Executive of the DLP no longer respect’s the Association and its Executive?
iii. Does the party expect any degree of co-operation and support between the Senator and the Marigot Constituency Association?
iv. Where does the Constituency Association stand with respect to the execution of projects and programmes of the Government?
    v. Is it that the people of Marigot are not worthy of playing a greater role in shaping the political landscape for General Elections in Marigot for themselves?

  35. Sheldon
    April 21, 2010

There are some of us who can see things from far.

And taking into consideration the many dynamics in Dominica’s politics these days a few compelling questions must be asked:

    1. When is the date for the next sitting of parliament in April 2010?

    2. If parliament is called as promised by the PM then it is obvious that a number of persons in the Marigot constituency want to have an upper hand in a possible by-election. Thus the question: are there high ranking persons within the DLP behind such moves of the Margot constituency association?

    3. Is the last DLP contender too laid back?

    4. Are other potential candidates a lot more passionate about taking on the incumbent UWP contender?

    5. Could there be an element of reverse psychology in the scheme of things to see if the incumbent for Marigot will go it alone and come inside Parliament knowing of the many challenges he is facing on a personal level? (Example: lack of respect shown by fellow members)

    6. That may be the most fundamental question of all: Do the people of Marigot care too hoot about the DLP and it leadership? Thus is this whole thing a much about nothing?

  36. Bagguyla
    April 21, 2010

What sort of nonsense is that??? That just goes to show how politically ignorant persons who are actively involved in politics are. First of all there is a distinction between the party and the government so Government headquarters is not theplace the persons in question should be taking their grieviances to. This is an in house matter of the Labour party that is where the issue needs to be addressed. It seems there is a problem with the machinery of the party the General secretary should have tried to help the parties concerned to settle their conflict in the best interest of the constitiuency and that of the party. This issue ought never to have appeared in the press in the first instance farless for a second time.

The confusion as to whom one should take this issue to also serves to uderline the ridiculousness of the creation of this portfolio of constituency relations (as far as i am concerned just to give Ti Papa a ministry). The parliamentary representative is normally the link between the constituency and the Government, so this is just duplicating a function which already exists or encouraging parliamentary representatives to lose touch with their electoral base once they are elected. This is not at all a step in the right direction.

We need to understand that the PARTY is not the GOVERNMENT. I am wondering whether Mr. George would be as willing to meet with opposition parliamentarians to discuss issues affecting their constituencies and vice versa. In principle he has too because as Minister he is there to serve the interest of all Dominicans and not only that of the party which he came from.

Now that there is a possiblity of bye elections soon because of the boycot of parliament by the UWP.
