DOC Olympic Day event slated for Saturday

President of DOC, Billy Doctrove
The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) is set to commemorate Olympic Day on Saturday, June 22, 2024, in honor of the 130th anniversary of the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The celebration will take place at the Bath Estate playing field from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will kick off with the traditional 2km Run/Walk/Cycle/Movement activity. Following this, attendees can look forward to engaging in a variety of sporting demonstrations showcased by national sporting associations at display booths. The event will also feature free giveaways, face painting, bouncing castles, races, and other activities aimed at promoting movement and fun.

Prior to the festivities, the President of the DOC, Mr. Billy Doctrove, will deliver a message from IOC President, Mr. Thomas Bach. The DOC is calling on the public to show their support for this year’s event, which is open to individuals of all age groups. Complimentary drinks will be provided, and special arrangements have been made to accommodate wheelchair-bound participants and cyclists along the modified route.

The route for the Run/Walk/Cycle/Movement activity will commence at the Bath Estate Playing Field, turning right towards the Bath Estate Main Road, proceeding down the road, and taking a left after the bridge towards the UWI Open Campus. Participants will then pass through the Botanic Gardens gate to the intersection on Bath Road, make a right turn along Bath Road towards the Goodwill Link Road, and finally, turn right at the intersection on River Street alongside the Windsor Park Sports Stadium River Bank on to the Bath Estate bridge, then take the first right turn after the Bath Estate bridge towards the Bath Estate Playing Field.

I dont know why people like Billy Doctrove doesnt push for more better athletic facilites in Dominica. All associations and organisations are lobbying bodies able to push for the things they need. Maybe he might be too politically aligned why he cannot ruffle too many feathers. I self would have push for the “state of the arse multipurpose” sports and training facility behind Grammar School and move those Chinese out long ago. Id push for another in Portsmouth. Id also push for the development of playing fields island wide (with bleachers, lighting and washrooms), sporting equipment etc. If we serious we have to move seriously. Not this nonsense pussyfooting we seeing throughout the years. That goes for ALL sports associations and otherwise. Remember every sportsperson is a voter or potential voter. You all have the power to make the change you want. Stop act like meek beggers. Billy do better for national athletes! At least have a PROPER gym especially for them.
