The Ministry of Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security of the Commonwealth of Dominica and The Suntime International Techno-economic Cooperation (Group) Co. Ltd of the People’s Republic of China have signed the implementation agreement for the Eighth Phase of China Aid Dominica Agricultural Technical Cooperation Agreement.
The Agreement seeks to strengthen the friendly relationship between the two countries, promote the development of agricultural technology in Dominica, restore and establish an agricultural technology extension system and an agricultural demonstration area, promote practical agricultural technology and high-tech innovation in Dominica, and improve the living standards of the people through agricultural development.
Over the years, and in the past seven phases, the Government of China has provided tremendous support to the sector through the Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project.
In this Eighth Phase, the implementation agreement for which was signed on Tuesday, March 9, 2022, more demonstration farms, training, equipment, input support and machinery will be provided. Under this Agreement, preparations will be made for equipping the Agriculture Science Complex Building and designing the human resource plan.
Hon. Fidel Grant Minister for Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture & National Food Security and Mr. Sun Haojie represented the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, respectively.

The term sovereign nation is very much a relative term. No nation, big or small, can go it alone and survive in this dog eat puppy world. Unfortunately alliances are required to be relavant and viable. As much as I abhor neo-colonialism and imperialism, it is unrealistic to expect small developing countries like Dominica to thrive in isolation.
Ultimately it comes comes to picking your poison or the lesser of many evils when deciding which “big” nation to partner with. Nation friendship always comes at a huge residual cost with the smaller and less affluent countries left holding the short end of the stick. In the end, countries like Dominica end up giving up their national birthright and future for a bowl of soup.

Skerrit and China make a perfect match. They both know how to use the weak and vulnerable to accomplish their abuse. I hope when the fire comes on us we will have enough water and resources to put it out. For the life of me I cannot understand why would Dominica go and sign relations with Syria almost the same day Syria armed forces went to fight with Russia against Ukraine and the west and our local media is saying nothing about that signing. Dominicans should be [wary] of any agreements singed between the Governments of China and Dominica and one should be cautious especially with the play of words “promote practical agricultural technology and high-tech innovation”. Genetically modified agriculture produce may be the fancy of the Chinese people who have a huge population to feed, that’s not for our people except the purpose is for exportation to China. Strange nowhere in the agreement was mention made of access roads for the farmers, which should be first and foremost; according to the DLP mantra “hotels before airport”.

China is doing the same thing in many other poor countries around the world ( above all in Africa ) in order to indirectly take their control and expand their own empire.

These dependent countries then have no choice but to vote alongside China at the UN and to accept the rules of this totalitarian regime in every sectors (economy, politic, … )
In any international agreement, each country has the responsibility to look out for its own interests; Dominica should be astute enough to do likewise.
looking forward to more details as relates to what exactly is in the package. Currently, it seems like we are basically reinstating what existed previously under the Dominica-Taiwan arrangement. We still seem to be at this age-old stage of receiving general assistance from these foreign interests, something which the Gov’t should be comfortable providing to farmers at this time.
Specific assistance is required in the area of value addition exploring the various output we can get from our local raw materials. such as extracting fibers to make environmentally friendly packaging, clothing, etc.
We would also need specific machinery with the requisite training to ensure local capacity building. These machines should be able to facilitate peeling of produce, cutting, and shredding for primary processing. Machines that could also help create flour and related products such as pasta commercially using local produce.
This approach will ensure sustainable livelihoods and independence.
