The Dominica Business Forum (DBF) Inc. has extended invitations to the Government of Dominica and to the parliamentary opposition, to hold separate dialogues with the private sector in advance of the 2019/2020 National Budget.
“With the impending general elections that are constitutionally due by May, 2020, the DBF Inc. recognizes the fact that a substantially new, or altogether new, administration, either a new-look Dominica Labour Party or an opposition replacement, will administer the 2019/2020 national budget and it is important that the private sector is apprised on the plans of those policy makers, as well as their expectations of the private sector in the third decade of the 21st century,” the DBF states in a release.
The proposed dialogue with the government is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday 10th July, 2019, but according to the DBF, final confirmation from the government is still pending. The dialogue with the parliamentary opposition has been confirmed for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday 11th July, 2019.
Both meetings will be held at the Fort Young Hotel conference room and participation is open to operators and representatives of all private sector enterprises.
The DBF says it recognizes the lateness of this intervention but is convinced that such dialogues will be more appropriate if held immediately prior to the national budget presentation “because, at that eleventh hour, accommodations have a habit of being critically sought.”
“The Dominica Business Forum (DBF) Inc. looks forward to a progressive 2019/2020 national budget which reflects the economic and social realities of the Commonwealth of Dominica, an environment conducive to doing business, and an inclusive role for the private sector with job creation and profitable enterprises, as we enter the third decade of the 21st Century,” the release stated.
In any budgetary preparations, consultation is very important especially with key stakeholders. The Private Sector , which is the greatest generator of revenue for the government, surely should be engaged. The opposition of course as they represent a sizable percentage of the population. Unfortunately, from it’s track record, good governance practices, are not a hallmark of this ineffective, inefficient regime. This current administration only listens to itself. The whole country, more particularly the economy, was in a sorry state even before Erika and Maria because of the conceit, obstinacy and foolhardiness of the present junta. The business sector refuses to use its influence so it will always be ignored by Skerrit and his subservient apostles. Grow a spine you business owners. Stand up for country when the opportunity presents itself. Speak truth to power whenever necessary. Take back the country from tyranny.
My family &me have Dominic Nationality.. They are doctors in different specialists.
We want invest in medical field ( like medical center ….)
How we start ?
I’m certain that you might have a Dominican passport but you don’t have ‘Dominic nationalility’. I suggest you ask the person that sold you our passport. I’m sure he’ll be able to help you with your investment. Of course in return for a commission.
If you would get anything out of Skerrit it would be lies anyway. I rather believe he would not engage in the first place. In the past 15 years he threw figures at us but nothing was ever independently audited. We do not know the state our treasury is in but i have a feeling it’s empty. We have allowed this men to squander our resources for 15 years and it would take at least 10 years to recover from that.
Your comment is rubbish..The Pm have not attend the dialogue yet ..You are very bias.
Stop judging what will be the outcome a d be a petrotic Dominican. Why dont you contribute to gour country development
Read the Annual Estimates . Read the Actual Revenue/Expenditure of previous years. The Annual Budget when presented is a plan of policies the government hope to execute in the coming year. It is an authorization to spend and collect revenue .
It is the GOVERNMENT budget that have to be approved in the House. It does not need any outside consultations.
The political grandstanding of the DBF is quite obvious.
Approved by his eleven disciples who are all in it. The opposition voted against! Worse of all they where prevented to speak by the speaker. That is Dominican democracy a la Skerrit. You, of course don’t see anything wrong with that!
