Dominica Calypso Association promises exciting 2025 calypso quarterfinals

The Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) is gearing up for the quarterfinal round of the Eclipse of Competition, set to take place on Saturday, February 1st, at the Windsor Park Stadium forecourt. Public Relations Officer of the DCA, Joey Lloyd,  shared insights into the preparations for what promises to be a thrilling event.

Lloyd confirmed that preparations are going smoothly, with 32 talented calypsonians set to compete for 20 coveted spots in the semifinals. This lineup includes 12 artists who advanced from the elimination round and 20 returning from last year’s quarterfinals. Tickets are currently available at local pharmacies and other outlets, making it easy for fans to secure their seats for the show.

However, the competition will see some changes in the lineup due to the withdrawal of four notable calypsonians: Trilla – G, Black Diamond, Oracle, and Healer. Lloyd explained that the DCA had to call upon their reserves to fill these gaps.

“When we have our reserves, our esteemed judges provide us with the rankings, making it straightforward to select the next in line,” he stated.

The three reserves are Jamma B, Prince of Peace, and Bingo and the final addition to the lineup is Mika, who was the next in line in the judge’s rankings.

looking ahead to the quarterfinals, Lloyd expressed confidence in the quality of the performances.

“You can expect a very high standard,” he assured. “The eliminations focused on lyrics and melody, and the artists are putting their best foot forward to secure a place in the next round. It’s going to be a great show, and I can promise you that.”

Despite the enthusiasm, Lloyd acknowledged that the DCA faces some challenges, including logistical issues with venue permissions, and financial hurdles.

“We prefer to use the stadium itself, and while we do have some financial challenges, we are actively working with our sponsors to deliver a fantastic product,” he explained, stressing that these challenges will not impact the experience of the patrons.

“We appreciate the support from our patrons, and we’re excited to deliver a great show on Saturday,” Lloyd concluded.
