Dominica joins the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the rest of the Caribbean in celebrating Caribbean Tourism Month 2022.

Caribbean Tourism Month was first celebrated in 2011 and is an initiative of the CTO. Tourism Month seeks to create opportunities to increase awareness of the importance of tourism to the Caribbean region, to generate media coverage of the tourism product in each destination, and to reflect on the invaluable impact of tourism on the economic, social, and cultural well-being in the Caribbean.

According to the CTO, this year’s theme is Caribbean Wellness and is even more relevant considering the World Tourism Day theme of “Rethinking Tourism” as we navigate the post-pandemic period.

In honor of Caribbean Tourism Month, Dominica will highlight its many wellness experiences. In 2021, the Government of Dominica designated 2022 to be the Year of Health and Wellness with the two main goals of enhancing the health and wellness of citizens and tourists and increasing visitor arrivals to Dominica.

As a result, an events calendar was created, and many activities were organized around themed months. A floating lantern festival symbolized the importance of reflection and renewal in January; in February, the destination safely executed special events; and in March, award winning gospel singer Sinach celebrated her birthday in the Nature Island, bringing her praise and worship talents to the month’s theme of ‘inner peace.’

In April, persons participated in fitness challenges at the island’s scenic tourism sites. The event proved popular, and the organizers and participants dubbed Dominica as one big outdoor gym! Similarly, visitors and attendees to the island’s signature Jazz ‘n Creole event were able to A visitor relaxes at the refreshing and scenic Boeri Lake, Dominica.experience a Jazz ‘n spas experience which invited persons to unwind after the event at the island’s hot spas in the Roseau Valley.

Additionally, in September, Dominica revisited its history and paid homage to its First Peoples, the Kalinago. Thereafter, lovers of the World Creole Music Festival emerged in Dominica to celebrate the long-awaited epic event. Patrons, media, and influencers embraced the opportunity to enjoy the rich Creole culture of the Nature Island.

To culminate this month’s celebrations, the Discover Dominica Authority will produce a video highlighting Dominica’s wellness through the lens of a local athlete. This video will premiere on November 30, 2022.

I think that it is the extra clean air that we breath here in Dominica that has some people’s minds so relaxed that they simple can’t function. Discover Dominica Authority advertises its tourism product more to Dominicans than to the rest of the world. Maybe they are ashamed of the low quality of everything that they offer. Cruise ship season is opened and we go days without having a cruise ship. Roseau still stinks. The side walks are hazardous. increasing numbers of “parros” on the streets. National Bank has snail speed service. Visitors. like locals. have a hard time accessing cash at the ATMs. Limited traffic signs. Local music that is X-rated. Gas shortages. More hotels being built for ghosts to reside in. And most alarming a bunch of red idiots believing all the lies that Skerrit tells them.

Let’s stay on the “ELECTORAL REFORM.” Everything else is of non importance to the concerned citizens. This is just a distraction from the main issues.

    Words! Just Words…

“In 2021, the Government of Dominica designated 2022 to be the Year of Health and Wellness with the two main goals of enhancing the health and wellness of citizens and tourists ……”

‘Words mean nothing if actions are not congruent with uttered statements’. Actions of the DLP Admin do not reflect a ‘junta’ that cares about the citizenry or visitors. There are no consistent efforts to promote healthy eating and living. Fast Food joints, primarily owned by supporters of the junta, are thriving. Local agriculture is a dying entity. Community health education, healthy activities including walking, hiking etc are non-existent. Facilities focused on caring for the sick are substandard and the hospital proximal to main airport where many visitors arrive is an empty, leaking shell. No wonder most visitors are returning Dominicans who are willing to take their chances with fate. Any surprise that the rest of the world ignores the Caribbean? Only words.. Way to…

The only thing Dominicans want to celebrate is the END of Roosevelt’s dictatorship. There is nothing for resident Dominicans to smile about.

Let’s shine the light on Tourism in Dominica.
*Dominica has the lowest tourist arrival among the countries of the Caribbean
*There is no international airport nor modern cruise facilities
*Many workers in the tourism industry are still at home (unemployed) after covid
    * Dominicans who work in the hotels are mostly at the entry level ( doing menial work)

Antigua, St. Kitts, Grenada, St. Lucia are light years ahead of Dominica with their tourism product. Dominica and her twin brother, St. Vincent, are at the rear.
