Dominica: Curfew order extended, complete lockdown this weekend to allow frontline workers to rest

The Emergency Powers Curfew Order of 2021 which governs the curfew put in place due to the Covid-19 surge which is currently affecting Dominica, has been extended for a further week.

The announcement was made by Cabinet Secretary, Careen Prevost during a statement on Tuesday.

“Cabinet has taken a decision to extend the Emergency Powers Curfew Order of 2021 for a further 7 days until Monday, August 23rd at 5:00AM,” she said.

Prevost continued, “As you are already aware, a person shall not be out in public between the hours of 5:00AM and 6:00PM on Monday to Friday except to provide or to access essential services.”

According to her, the list of essential services that can be accessed during the week has been clearly defined in the SRO published previously.

Prevost advised further that Cabinet has taken a decision that for this weekend, there will be a complete lockdown from Friday August 20th, at 6:00PM to Monday August 23rd, at 5:00AM.

“This lockdown is specifically to allow for our frontline workers who have been at this fight from day one to rest and spend time with their families,” she stated. “Many of us may not understand the immense pressure, long hours and commitment required from our frontline workers at this time.”

Furthermore, Prevost said “If you would like to do something for them as a token of appreciation for their hard work and effort, please stay home.”

Prevost thanked the frontline workers for their contribution in this battle.

She also urged all Dominicans lend their support by following the necessary protocols and staying at home.

If I was the AM, I mean “PM.” and I was so “Deeply Sorry.” Then I would turn over the mansion at Morn Daniel to house some Covid patience, and some quarantine patients. But I’m the pm and I don’t give a da…m. And by the way, “I run things” and “to he…ll with the Constitution.” I mean, the Dominican Constitution. I run things. What I say goes. All of you are my sheep. None of you must say, Moooo! I want everyone in Dominica to say, Mehhhhh. 🐑 And I love Lucifer

But all you where is the new Order? Since when Cabinet can make that kind of decision?

And yes, the workers need rest but my God there is no way they could have been working round the clock. Miss Prevost come better than that!!!!

550 with the virus. 1 death from an already I’ll and immune compromised person. And we still buying into this covid nonsense like the death rate is at 10%

Shame on us all for accepting any lockdown. Any restriction of movement. Any mask mandate any social distance measure any sanitizing hands to enter a building.

Today’s health environment is no different than it was 2 years ago save for the fear mongering propaganda.

Total Country lock down is a failed response to corona virus spread in Dominica. Recall that over the two years before the last two weeks, normal business practice did not contribute to the spread of the virus. How then do you justify the shut down of businesses to curb spread?. We need to pin point what contributed to the spread and take the decision that will address that. Further, how you justify essential and non-essential business and when they should open or close. If i am selling roast plantains on the roadside to earn a living, my business is essential to me! The government is in no place to decide which business are essential and which are not.
Lastly, how do you justify the shut down of a country for doctors and nurses to rest? Isn’t it their duty and obligation to provide care? While i understand that they have been working longer hours than usually, its not acceptable to the public/business community who depend on weekends to make an extra money to suffer loss

Since when you care about front line workers? If you did you would as least give them a little bonus for the time they have been working. This is just an excuse to close the whole country down.

Robbin’ Hood and his many dim-witted, pliable disciples bungle everything. The primary reason for any complete lockdown should be to curb the rapid spread of the virus. The frontline workers should be deployed in such an organized manner that they would receive enough rest, even though limited, that they won’t suffer from ‘burnt-out’.

If these series of weekend lockdowns continue without financial compensation from the uncaring, callous and inept ruling regimen, people will not only die from the virus but starvation and malnutrition as well.

Again, for the umpteenth time, the working poor and the small businesses in particular, are desperately in need of financial assistance.

Of course, Any right minded person will not expose themselves unneccessarily to this virulent virus. However, the government, like most of us know that the virus does not take a break but is active 24/7 and instead of treating us like nincompoops with little intelligence they should come clean and admit they do not have adequate personnel to look after all the infected. Covid does not take a weekend off to recuperate. I do appreciate all the work our medical staff, nurses and careers do but that cover is needed round the clock, twenty four hours a day and if we can not provide this we should be honest, say so and seek additional help instead of making us feel guilty about worn out staff. That is ridiculous and a very cheap shot and does not reflect well on the management of our country.

The virus has exposed those huge gaping holes in Dominica’s health care system. All along people in the KNOW knew it what completely inadequate. But Skerrit thought he could buy himself out of this problems with ‘state of the art’ main hospital and a few ‘state of the art’ health centres dotted around the island. What he forgot was that all the good nurses and doctors have fled the country and only the mediocre ones and cabal members remained. Here we go, that is the naked truth. Propaganda works only for so long!

A complete shutdown from Friday 6pm to Monday 5am to allow Frontline workers to spend time with their family and rest????
    Cabinet decision!
This was not on the original order that the President signed!!!
Don’t get me wrong……I personally think that the Frontline workers especially healthcare are overworked!!!!
To my mind it doesn’t sound reasonable that all these people would be absent from the system for a weekend…..there must be some sort of skeleton staff!!!
Why don’t they phase out the rest period for dem…… like a few people every 2 or 3 days could get a 2 day rest!!….or something!!!
How does cabinet take a decision to shut down the country for the weekend to allow Frontline workers to rest and visit their families!

Skerrit……if you can’t get this thing right… you will never get it right!

“…a person shall not be out in public between the hours of 5:00AM and 6:00PM on Monday to Friday…”

Is that accurate? Sounds like an error.

ADMIN: It continues….”except to provide or to access essential services.” That is correct.

Will this also apply to tourists or do they have their own rules ? They pretty much seem to be doing whatever they want at the moment….

Tourists, DLP supporter and the PM and his cabal have different rules. However, they haven’t been published so that way they are very flexible and can be applied at will.

Anything for the frontline workers but pray tell, how does this allow them to get rest that they could not get otherwise? If the situation of last weekend were to repeat this weekend how would that prevent or minimize their rest? Make it make sense please, what did I miss. Nurses, doctors, firemen, police, and the rest off duty all weekend?

Where was liar Skerrit, who had to address the nation earlier???
Did the pronouncemnent by honourable Lennox Linton forced him back into his lying hole?
The statement by Careen Prevost still begs a lot of questions; she stated ” the lockdown is specifically to allow our frontline workers….to spend time with the families””…
Is it ALL the frontline workers????: nurses, doctors, the fire and ambulance service, police, etc. ??
What if someone is very sick during such time??
This statement needs clarification, otherwise it will add to the chaos that is already going on re this pandemic…
English is a language which when left to one’s own interpretation can have more than one meaning. MS PREVOST please clsrify!!
    I AM CONFUSED!!!

The problem is not English this time. Its just one more lie from the liars. They lie even when the truth can save them. They cant help themselves.
