Dominica Freedom Party statement on electoral reform ahead of the impending elections

Dominica Freedom Party Leader, Kent Vital

The Dominica Freedom Party notes the press statement issued today the 13th of September by the electoral Reform Group comprising the Dominica Associating of Evangelical Churches, the Dominica Christian Council, the Dominica Business Forum Inc., The Dominica Public Service Union, the Dominica Bar Association, and the Waterfront and Allied workers Union.  The statement is in relation to the possibility for the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica calling general elections ahead of the availability of, or without releasing the findings of a recent mission to Dominica during the week of August 5th.  The joint mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), the Commonwealth Secretariat, and CARICOM was invited by the government to make recommendations in relation to electoral reform ahead of the upcoming general elections.

It is to be noted that the Electoral Reform Group is not affiliated to any political party, but they have given of their time to seek to bring resolution to the most pressing electoral reform issue related to the cleansing of the voters list and the issuance of voter ID cards ahead of the next general elections.

The DFP fully concurs with the press statement put out by the Electoral Reform Group including the call for the following ahead of the Prime Minister calling the next general election constitutionally due by May 2020.

  1. Allow the Organization of American States (OAS), the Commonwealth Secretariat and CARICOM mission time to submit their report.
  2. Allow the stakeholders sufficient time to review the report and to take the necessary action, if required.
  3. That the Electoral Commission be assisted in expediting the cleansing of the electors list and issuance of voter identification cards
  4. Allow the electoral Commission time to execute their responsibilities as prescribed by law
  5. And most importantly allow the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica their indomitable right to Free and Fair Elections

The DFP wants to appeal to our fellow Dominicans not to be quiet in the face of injustice.  As a people, let our voices be heard.  Holding our peace only emboldens those who seek to erode our democracy.  The scriptures says in Proverbs 24 vs 24 to 25:  “He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse; nations shall abhor him.  But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.”

Mr. Vital, you are making a big difference in Dominica’s political history.
You are all about facts and truth.

I really hope you will be elected as a member of parliament to bring some balance discussion to parliament.

If there is no reform before election is called all political parties should boycott the elections. That is a principled stand and will tell that the opposition is about doing right. If the PM continues the election with just the labour party it will show he is just about power. Dominica is not Venezuela and we dont have any resources that china and russia wants except a vote in UN. The constitution does not allow for such situations and he will be forces to enact reforms and call elections again. If he does not the government will be null and we the Dominica citizens should not go to work and strike until he relents. We will request EU and US freeze all assests from anyone selling Dominica passports until there is a legitimate government. All passport revenue will nees to be recovered. Contesting the election without reform even if opposition wins is legitimatizing the non reform allowing the labour party to say it was not needed. Do not be afraid do what is wise.

But Vital, as i blogged re the statement of the Electoral Reform g
Group, there needs to be a plan (b), because Skerrit is politically cornered, and the man may decide to act irrationally, and try to go into an election.

Skerrit is intransigent and mortally afraid of losing the election. He will not yield and allow fair general elections. Too much is at stake to lose for him. Losing for him means spending the rest of his natatural life behind iron curtains. Here we have a combination of the most important and powerful NGOs in the country calling for free and fair elections. If Skerrit doesn’t yield just bring all economic activities to a complete HALT. Show Skerrit that it’s the people who run things and not him. The people can appoint and disappoint at will. He is the servant of the people and not their MASTER. Shut down Roseau and the rest of the country to force this severely and profoundly corrupt individual to acquiesce to all the people’s demands. Show him that the people thirst for LOVE and UNITY to return to Dominica. Let him know that the Power of Love is far greater and more enduring than the Love of Power. Overstaying your time in government leads to dictatorship.

Electoral Reform has been subject of debate for some long time and it is now imperative for the Government and the Electoral Commission to act to ensure that the next elections are free and fair and in accord with democratic principles

My boy you are really grasping for straws, on of your candidate Jeff Stow way Beloit, leaves and own a business in Wisconsin, yet you have him as a representative for the Soufiere constituency! Are you serious or for real! For argument sake the man is elected, will he leave his business and seat in DA? Knowingly that man is a visitor, why did you choose Jeff? You message is dead on arrival, because you are a fraud. Ma Moe is laughing at your lack of maturity and stupidity.! Give US back DFP.

I support this statement from Kent. I will not be silent. I want electoral reform for my country before this general elections, otherwise I will misbehave. Clean up the list, give us voters ID.
