The first batch of medical equipment and supplies donated by China to Dominica was handed over on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at the China-Dominica Friendship Hospital.

The supplies, which were provided by Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation, arrived at the China-Dominica Friendship Hospital on Friday, April 3. They include 1,536 nucleic acid test kits and 30,000 surgical masks which will be used for COVID-19 epidemic containment efforts in Dominica.

Chinese Ambassador, Lu Kun, who spoke at the handing over ceremony, expressed China’s continuing support for Dominica, especially in difficult times.

A release from the Chinese Embassy in Dominica states that the Minister for health, Wellness and New Health Investment, Hon. Irving McIntyre and Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Hon. Kenneth Darroux, who attended the ceremony, thanked China for its medical aid and spoke highly of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

A release from the Chinese Embassy in Dominica stressed the sound friendship which exists between China and Dominica.

“When the epidemic was taking a heavy toll in China, the Dominican government and people stood in solidarity with China in its disease control efforts,” the release states. “Dominican Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, spoke in Parliament supporting China and headed all Cabinet members to the Chinese Embassy to express solidarity for China. Despite difficulties, the Dominican government managed to donate masks to China.”

The release adds that Leader of The United Workers’ Party in Dominica,  “Hon. Lennox Linton and other people from all sectors of Dominican society also expressed their support.”

“Reciprocating an act of kindness is a fine tradition of the Chinese nation. Though still in huge demand for medical materials, China has managed to make the donation to Dominica in a short period of time, fully demonstrating the deep friendship between the two countries,” the release goes on to state. “China wishes to enhance cooperation with Dominica in the fight against the epidemic and further strengthen China-Dominica relations and the friendship between the two peoples.”

It is expected that more medical supplies donated by the Chinese Government and Embassy including 15 ventilators, N95 surgical masks, medical protective clothing, goggles, disposable medical gloves, disposable medical boot covers and forehead thermometers will arrive in Dominica soon.

If you all think China is giving Dominica these items from the goodness of their hearts, think again! First they initiated this malady, then is now using it to sell(give) their manufactured necessities for dealing with this same malady, to the world. They are selling and giving to most of the countries of the world (especially Europe), the exact same thing they are giving (selling) to Dominica. And, like the rest of the world is finding out, a lot of these items are defective. Thank you China, always looking to make a buck. Let us hope that our friendship is so strong, that we get the good stuff.

Is Alibaba an agency of the Chinese government?
Just wondering. I can’t trust my government. I think that skerrit was trying to impress de Chinese authorities by his gesture of 10 000 masks donation. Through the Chinese embassy Alibaba is donating 30 000 masks to we de Dominican people.
Jack ma stands out more impressive than little millionaire skerrit.
Foreign minister darroux… so you alive!
Who remember when darroux was speaking softly about Bitcoin?
Paper money will run a hard race against technology

Many thanks to the government of the Peoples Republic off China for their assistance. One observation , The Chinese delegation are wearing gloves – non of our medical team/delegation are wearing gloves I wonder why ???/// is it negligence by us or overreaction by China – remember their country was or is the epicenter of the disease.

Awa DNO after listening to ambassador Lu Kun it is clear is a one sided love affair we, where one party keeps giving and the other party keeps saying I love you just to see what he can get . But thank you China for giving Skerrit everything

I know the Chinese Ambassador, Lu Kun, was honest and he didn’t mean to say anything negative or take any jab at us but honestly speaking I feel bad as a Dominican Wii. First I feel when China was going through their stuff with COVID-19, with hundreds of people dying everyday, the best Skerrit could do was say he donated 10k masks to China man? Although ambassador Lu Kun used diplomacy but hear his discription “Despite the difficulties the Dominican government managed to donate masks to China.” Alah, he could not even say how many masks and really that is even if he gave any. But Ambassador what difficulty Dominica had? We were good with lots of money at that time? Boy look China still not out of blues as yet but yet, China was able to donate 30k masks, almost half of the country could get one and not only that, but they did it with cameras so both us and China could see. PM we didn’t see who in China you gave the masks to so I don’t believe you gave no masks

In this COVID war, every bit of help for the people of Dominica is deeply appreciated. Thanks to Mr. Jack Ma Foundation for his gesture to Dominica and the many other international beneficiaries.

Soon? When the Chinese govt. tell you “coming soon”, they mean 15 years and more. Like the ‘hospital’ promised in 2004, up to now it is not complete.

Please note for the record that the donation is coming from a private Chinese foundation and not the govt of China.

In this COVID war, every bit of help for the people of Dominica is deeply appreciated. Thanks to Mr. Jack Ma Foundation for his gesture to Dominica and the many other international beneficiaries.

Nothing to do with generosity but everything to do with modern time colonialism. I hope you all be grateful to your beloved PM. The same way you all sell your souls for a few dollars to your PM, your PM sells Dominica for a few dollars to this obsessive and totalitarian regime that has absolutely no regard for basic human rights.

You just another one that sit behind a computer criticizing, making uninformed opinions and creating your own facts. When you open your comment quote.”Nothing to do with generosity but everything to do with modern time colonialism” is this the time to make such a silly comment. Why don’t you look at the situation as it is and see the significance, timing and need for such donation. Do you think that The Chinese Ambassador, Lu Kun making a donation of medical supplies to The Government in a critical situation where people lives may be at stake is some what engaging in modern time colonialism. People like who rush to make silly comments like this, would not even see or understand when covert and nefarious things are taking place right before your eyes. What Do you know about the Human soul, do you know where it is located, do think the Human soul, that divine thing that comes with us at birth can be sold or given away to PM Skerrit, wow, so long for you silliness.

I’m just stating how it is and that’s the truth. I rather not accept a cent from a country that throws people in jail for having the wrong faith, for not accepting the state doctrine and so forth. Worse even, when the people are released from jail they notice that they have a kidney missing!!! When they complain, the state tells them that kidney was no good and the state removed it out of the goodness of their heart free of charge…! Well, well, well Mary, think again! These people including the likes of YOU, your party comrades and Skerrit most certainly have not got a soul. All this chinese regime is interested in is getting YOUR country’s votes at the UN and in the longer run have a foot hold right in the backyard of their arch enemy. You are a sucker…

China is in the same group of countries that totally ignore any human rights. The other members of that group are the likes of North Korea, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia etc. Dominica should be ashamed to side with a country like that and even call China a friend. All that in exchange for poorly built roads and bridges, a half finished hospital, a stadium that is showing its age after less than 10 years, an airport promised for 10 years but never materialised….
I am absolutely certain that DA could find better friends but it’s PM likes the communist and totalitarian states of this world for his friends. They support his opaque methods and overlook his incompetence!
