Dominica has reached one step closer towards the implementation of an Integrated Resource Management Policy.
That policy is being discussed at a workshop which ended yesterday.
The workshop is another step towards the realization of the document and its adaptation by government.
General Manager of DOWSCO Bernard Ettinoffe said, “Over the years many of our countries took water for granted. Many of them had an abundance of water but today are now considered water scarce countries. Fortunately Dominica is one of the few countries that emphasize the preservation of its forest and still enjoys an abundance of water. It is something that we cannot take for granted and we must avoid the mistakes made by others,”
He said Dominica should embrace any opportunity towards the planning and development of a suitable policy.
“The policy will consider the availability and allocation of water among competing uses such as domestic, industrial, transportation, power generation etc. Another key element that must be considered is the price because it is something that is always being taken for granted,” he said.
