Douglas Charles Airport reopens after accident

Damaged plane at Douglas Charles Airport

The Douglas Charles Airport reopened on Tuesday evening.

The airport was closed following an accident in which the left landing gear of a Sky high aircraft collapsed shortly after landing at about 12:30 PM on Monday.

The aircraft was carrying a three (3) member crew and the twenty-nine (29) passengers who exited the aircraft and were taken to the terminal building where they were medically examined. According to the Ministry of Public Works, Water Resource Management and Ports, medical examination no major injuries were recorded at that time.

The ministry stated in a release on Tuesday that normal airport operations would ‘hopefully’ resume after officials of the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority who were conducting an investigation into the accident, gave the all clear.

DNO was informed that the airport re-opened at 4:00 pm on Tuesday after the damaged aircraft was removed.

A source told DNO that there were no arrivals or departures yesterday after the airport was opened.

However, a DASPA official has informed us that there were in fact 5 flights after the resumption of operations yesterday, including 2 (two)  LIAT flights arriving and departing and 1 (one) Inter Caribbean flight arriving and departing with some private airlines entering as well.

DNO sincerely apologizes for the error.

This double doctor saw it fit to put millions of dollars into Melvin hall Airport ,Also renaming it but didn’t find it fit to put a hospital near this Airport. Oh dear lord. Even my little son could do better than that. Am so afraid to come to Dominica. The people of Dominica need to sue these people that are running this country. How could you put people at such great risk. It’s could very well be one of the DLP Ministers of the leader this could happen to. Put politic aside and build the hospital. Please please do the right thing PM.

The govt saw it more important to build a State Palace before a new hospital that shows where there priorities are.

That’s good news but I hope Skerrit and his failed government saw the necessity of building a state of the art hospital that could serve the people of the North East and the Airport. I know it’s late for them to build it since they will be out as soon as the date for the next election is announced, but since the crash exposed our nakedness and Skerrit had already announced his plans to build a FAKE container international airport somewhere above the ocean, I strongly suggest to him to at least put a container hospital to serve the people of the North East and the airport, because a container hospital is much much more important at this time than his FAKE container international airport

Let’s hope it remains open for a little while as the 2019 hurricane season is less than two months away and as we know the Skerrit and Melissa airport is not Climate resistance.
