Douglas starts candidate launch targeting UWP leader (with photos)

Ian Douglas

The parliamentary representative for the Portsmouth Constituency, Ian Douglas wasted no time in attacking the Leader of the Opposition United Workers Party (UWP) when he took to the podium in Grand Fond on Sunday.

The Dominica Labour Party is currently launching Gretta Roberts, its candidate for the Morne Jaune/Riviere Cyrique Constituency.

But before even speaking about anything relating to the achievements or expectations of Roberts, Douglas started with some serious allegations against the UWP.

He accused them of being a party built on violence.

“They were calling for electoral reform. When the DLP went to Parliament to begin the process they blockaded the House of Assembly, gathered stones…Even policemen were running for their lives,” he said.

He told those gathered at Grand Fond that they cannot and should not even consider electing Linton or the UWP into office.

“Lennox told you he is a bold face no face novice. Can you afford to put a man like that in the office of the prime minister? Can you allow UWP to get into office in Dominica?, Douglas asked, adding, “You have something that is working right now, something that’s good. Something that’s not broken. Why would you want to fix it?”.

He also claimed that the UWP has a leadership that is the worst in Dominica’s political history.

“They are the worst in any political party,” he said.

After almost fifteen minutes of bashing the Opposition, Douglas finally turned his attention to the cause of the day-the launching of Roberts.

He said all her life, she has been here serving the people of her community.

“There is no choice in the matter. No debate in this constituency. No alternative to sister Gretta and when the poll closes whenever election is called. I want Grand Fond to be the first to be called,” he stated.

Roberts is the daughter of Gertrude Roberts, the parliamentary representative for Morne Jaune/Riviere Cyrique from 1990 to 2000 under the United Workers’ Party.

Politics is really a very sharp double-edged sword. None of the parties like sour milk when it lands on their doorsteps. I hear so many things being said about the DLP reps, the name calling especially the prime minister. “The lazy outgoing prime minister, Lazy, manipulator, evil, cult, rapist, human trafficker, the devil liar and the list goes on and on… Oh my oh my. Matt can never have a decent conversation without the prime minister or any labour representatives name come up. Even something as simple as “corporal punishment”. Now, everyone is running around flabbergasted because the shoe is on the other foot.

It is so egregious because the filth emanates directly from the potty mouth of a present Minister of government. Keep in mind that the government sets the tone for the country. The young impressionable youths are listening along with their parents. What sort of country would we leave behind for posterity? Ian Douglas and his colleagues are contaminating the country with their verbal garbage. Truth be told, the man sounded like a deranged individual who had just escaped from a mental institution. The country needs cooler heads to prevail in order to bring people together for the betterment of the whole country. For Dominica to soar from the ashes it is in at the moment, there MUST be unity, peace and love among the inhabitants. We got disunity, war mongering and deep seated hatred from Minister Douglas. He and his other war mongers have to GO!

To Mr Ian Douglas, please go and sort out your constituency first. You are a failed palrep. You can see how badly off portsmouth is at the moment.. Ross left portsmouth hence leaving this area more impoverished. You have never spoken about Ross University and how it left your constituency upside down.. You coming Grandfond to talk rubbish as if people so stupid. Now about, Sis Gretta, when the dust is settled, you guys gonna get rich at the expense of the poor people. Could those saying better with Greeta point any change? Better with Gretta, does dat mean the present pal failed miserably? After the launching, you politicians got things nice yet those blind followers a hungry, thirsty, broke, and living way below the normal. Labor is an insult. They must goooooooooo. No vote for Labour. And there will be a surprise for sister Gretta.. You cannot n willnot win…… Dat Douglasst should also get zero votes..

Dominicans, if you want the country to prosper cursing, falsehoods and emotional intoxication won’t do it. The wild and undisciplined presentation of Ian Douglas will not create jobs, neither bring back RUSM nor improve education. His unsubstantiated vitriolic attacks on Mr. Linton do nothing to fix the almost lifeless economy, cannot enhance the healthcare sector to an acceptable standard. In other words, his ranting and raving brings nothing good; it only create more division, more hatred, more tension and more suffering. The most important thing that is needed at this juncture is a vibrant economy. Jobs, jobs, jobs and more jobs are desperately needed. Joblessness has skyrocketed under the tenure of the current government. The has almost bled to death. Mr. Douglas, how by going on the political rostrum, and cursing like a man with severe mental issues, help the country? Your presentation can only be described as politics of destruction. We don’t need that.

Did Ian Douglas said we have something that’s working? Is this man in his right sober senses? Is ROSS working sir? This is the subject you should have spoken about for you to even sound credible. Tell us what your plans are for ROSS. Your one man Government has broken all institutions of the state. Just lately he became the Chief Personnel Officer, by calling Junior Government workers to a meeting. When we talking about things working, you cannot be seriously think about the Government (DLP) working. After 19 years your good works should show for itself….and UWP should not be uttered at your functions. Show us what is really working and we will give you another 5 more years.

So after 18, nearly 20 years in Government, the only thing that the DLP can say is Lennox Linton, Lennox Linton? He may not be my favorite guy but nonesense is nonesense!
Dcans not asking themselves a question?!

Aren’t Dominicans seeing the state of the city in 2019? What does 1995 have to do with that. Isnt’ the gov’t supposed to be so great and figure out by now after 18 years how to fix up Roseau? After 18 years? No discrimination but Haitians, Spani & Chinese are the only things that the Government has accomplished for business development in Dca after 18 yrs? Nah man. Sa pa right.

The fate of the country lies in $200 for some school fees and books, or sewo by the road side or weave, some steel or galvanize or gas in your car, which people should be able to proudly do on their own?

All I can say is: if after 19 years in power, the DLP has not provided you a decent paying job, change them.
If after 19 years in power, our capital city still looks and smells like S—t, change them.
If after 19 years in power, our hospitals (health centers) are below standard, change them.
If after 19 years in power, your children cannot dream or envisage a professional career, change them.
If after 19 years in power, you are still relying on Parl. Rep. to help you build your house, change them.
In other words, if after 19 years in power the DLP has not made your life better, or is moving in that direction, change them.

“Policemen had to run for their lives?” REALLY? Lmaooo boy look sensationalism if i haven’t heard it. A bag of stones they found by DOWASCO, the DLP shut down cabinet saying it was a plot to disrupt Cabinet, when it was a sitting where an important bill was to be passed about electoral reform. to this day noone knows who put the bag of stones there. It could be a police it could be a beggar it could be anyone, but UWP was blamed. Anyway, it is broken. the economy is broken, our social institutions are broken. We need integrity. I heard Gretta talk about all the development that is taking place in the east. But the developments are what should have been done years ago. A resurfacing of a much needed road to the east of the country is not good work and development. that road was done in less than 6 months, however, they have been working on it since 2014. do not be fooled people. all of a sudden they doing things. Elections should be every year.

This sort of ghetto behavior coming from incumbent Ministers of government proves that they have nothing of significance to woo the electorate so their only strategy is to demonize the opposition. No wonder our people are divided from cradle to grave. They, the DLP, should be enumerating all the good things they have done like the booming economy, the thousands of new livable jobs, the many new local businesses, the completed geothermal energy project, the brand new international airport, the raise in civil servants salary, the renovation of the cruise ship facilities, the excellent network of roads and bridges. They can’t, for the whole country is in a sorry state of disrepair and at the rear end of development when compared to all other countries in the sub-region. To vote this underperforming, utterly corrupt, self-enriching Labour bad experiment back in power will be INSANITY.

Ian, where is Ross University your father Mike and uncle Rosie Douglas brought to Portsmouth?
Ian, did Skerrit tell you that he was going to take Ross University form the people of Portsmouth and Dominica?
Ian did Skerrit tell you that he was going to replace the hundreds of Ross Students, that use to spend thousands of dollars in Portsmouth everyday and replace them with Haitians?
I know Portsmouth is a DLp stronghold and the people are politically and otherwise blind but man, if Skerrit cared about Portsmouth he would say that Portsmouth deserve something better and if, the people should demand something better because we have too many bright people in possie to have you as our parlrep. It’s sad to see so many people who are able to support themselves and have more than they would need kneel to a one man show. Where is all you pride, it that what is has come to. Dominicans, this current system is design to get us poorer and poorer. We are now hearing of cases the PM is putting the money into the rich man hands and asking them to distribute it…..oh boy, good luck with that. But my question is, why is the PM using the state funds to try to buy an election?. Sir if you all were doing so good, there would be no need for any of that, you would not even have to keep A rally, the people would be able to see all your good and vote you back just like that, but no, you all have to try to buy your way and spending MILLIONS of the state money to do your poverty enhancment scheme. What happens two mounths after the election. To our leaders, people to not eat passports and one day things will catch up with us.

The DLP is feigning confidence. Deep down within they are quivering as their grip on power is loosening. They are really good at cursing and hurling false accusations and incendiary insults at the opposition. They have practised this all the days of their adulthood. Loud noise is just a large shield for a huge empty space. This is antiquated politics that has worked well in yesteryears, not today. More than ever, Dominicans need jobs, decent wages, home ownership, an excellent network of roads and bridges, modern hospitals and well equipped health centres, a modern cruise facility, an international airport and more. That said, the best Ian Douglas and the DLP have to offer the nation is nasty, accusatory sensationalism. This is the perfect examples of a losing party clutching at lies and trickery to save themselves. Where are the business and religious leaders to condemn this uncouth and vile behavior? He should also substantiate his claim by referring to the UWP as the government that threatened that the “BLOOD of the country” would be on them IF they voted the DLP in 2014. Then he should accuse UWP as the party that told supporters in St. Joseph to call members of the opposition “Traitors” whether they were at a funeral, on the plane, on their car etc. He should also accuse them of being the government that caused Ross University to go to Barbados after 40 years here. Then he should also tell the people that the UWP is a party that hides and supports world wanted criminals because when UWP knew Aliereza Monfared was wanted for serious crimes, they had him in Dominica hiding for six (6) months and were driving him all over the island

Michele Obama told supporters of the Democratic party in the U.S. “When they go low, we go high.” I believe in this strongly hence my reason for always being disappointed when the supporters of the opposition in Dominica joint the bad mouthing and castigating of people. Leave that degrading behaviour to them, focus on message; a strategy which has been working.
Before I left Dominica I was a supporter of the DLP and attended several of their rallies. I was also home in 2014 during part of the election campaign and knew the type of crowds they attracted. Did you see that in Grand Fond? The party is dying and those of you who still support the labour party should make that transformation before it is too late. Embrace the eminent change.

Shameless % you still talking, didn’t you see the awakening on Sunday. I am not surprised Denial is your name %! You and your loyal supporters are the only ones who can’t read the hand writing on the wall. Get a job and stop begging people to fund your lifestyle.

Skerrit was also a novice when he took up the reins of PM. All the other seasoned ministers were already knee deep scandal or were not brave enough to rise to the challenge. at the time everybody said give the young man a chance. yes he new give him a chance. Now, its a different story. A novice simply means that you are new to something. at the time lennox was new to politics as it was his first time running. simple.

Who expected anything different ffrom a geriatric albatross like Austrie? Not me. Not any sensible Dominicans. Then again what positive could he have spoken about? There is no positive in the labor house total about. They are still blaming Hurricane Maria. Austrie is on his way out. Gretta needed a guide to get around Grand Fond and the rest of the constituency. She was divorced from the constituency for years. So when there is no positive to highlight the next best thing to do is to attack the next prime minister of Dominica.

Ian does not want the situation to change because he is feeding at the trough. Deplorable and useless is Ian.
