Dozens stranded at Douglas Charles Airport (with video)

Dozens of travelers are stranded at Douglas Charles Airport due to the closure of that facility following an aircraft accident which occurred there on Monday.

The left landing gear of a Sky high aircraft collapsed shortly after the plane landed at about 12:30 PM.

The Ministry of Public Works, Water Resource Management and Ports said in a statement earlier today that the airport would hopefully, resume operations this afternoon after the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority has completed its investigation.

The video shown below was shot at about 3:00 pm on Tuesday.

I cant give credibility to the accusation made by the opposition forces. When people begin to make politics responsible for accidents there is a problem. Crimes and accidents are caused by people> Unless a political is directly involve you should not blame her/him. Some posters are going as far as to use accidents to make Dominica look like a bad place. All over the world accidents will happen , but accidents alone should not make a place or person or the world a bad place. My question is why do we do this ? What do we have to gain ?
Are we losing all reasonableness ?

The Airport should not be closed if the aircraft was not on the runway. All Sky Airline should be grounded until investigation was done, an inspection on the airstrip should quickly locally done to allow other airlines to land , and not having their clients stranded for two days

The carrier’s name is Sky High Aviation, registered in the Dominican Republic. As far as I know they do not run scheduled services to Dominica DOM but ad hoc charters only from Santo Domingo. You are right, the runway should be cleared asap but we neither have the equipment to do so, nor an authority on the spot to deal with this. Also, there are no service- or aircraft repair services, catering (proper aircraft catering) or hangerage facilcilities at the airport.

I am pretty sure most of those on here criticising their country are overseas building someone else country. And that’s okay but instead of being a critic of your country make a donation towards a fire truck, do something good for your country. Everything is not all about government we are our government. Send a donation towards your church you was baptised, your school where you got your first education do something right someone good to build your Dominica. So when some of you badly work in another man’s country you will be able to go back in the Dominica that you helped rebuild.

Tell your P.M. and his family to set an example and fly Liat, he says we must support, instead of using private jet.

…and tell YOUR PM to spent more time in his country. Out of 52 weeks in the year he does not spent more than 12 weeks in DA. Where is he all the other time. Who pays for all these travels? YOUR PM does not care for DA one little bit. All he cares for is himself.

This has nothing to do with international airport, it’s all about safety. And guess what? if everything you we the people talks only bad about your country who the hello you think is going to come there? So what use will an international air be to Dominica. Stop criticising your country it takes a village and together we should build our country. To much politics let Dominica remain untouched and natural. When you start lifting your country and allowing others to come in instead of talking it down we will get a well deserved international airport. But first let it begins with us.
We are the people of Dominica.

I guess some travellers have never seen or heard of international airports being closed after an accident , or when there is a safety risk. Gat wick airport in the UK was closed some time ago because there were drones being flown too close to the airport. Come on people, be rational and fair minded. This has nothing to do with a small airport. It’s simply safety procedures.

For you well Read a news item- The runway at McGhee Tyson Airport reopened after an aircraft with a landing gear malfunction delayed all flights on Tuesday.

An incoming private aircraft reported landing gear issues at 11:02 a.m. and slid off the edge of the runway into the grass as it touched down, said McGhee Tyson spokeswoman Becky Huckaby.

    No one was hurt.

The runway was closed until about 1:30 p.m.

Travelers were advised to contact their airline for up-to-date information on their flights.

Poor excuse, the air port should already be opened by 3:00 today.

    Get with it leaders!

People I must respond to this comment, the airport reopening has nothing to do with politics, it does not matter which government is in office if there is an accident at the airport, the airport will be closed until the civil aviation authorities are satisfied that they have enough information to about the crash and that nothing on the ground or at the airport caused the crash. Just like when there is a vehicle accident insurance and documentation is involved and SAFETY is the number one word in aviation. Stop commenting on issues that you all are not informed about and making Dominica look more stupid than it already does. If this is the response that is received when a minor incident like this happens, can you imagine if a major accident happens there?. It is disgusting and humiliating to listen and watch the posts and complains of the airport not opening because you want to travel. Get your facts straight and understand what is needed to be accomplished before the airport can reope

What are Dominicans waiting for again to realize that this cabal cannot lead? From day one their only desire was to enrich their pockets , they never had any plans to develop Dominica. We have to realize that neither Skerro, Vince, Reggie and Moreblack never held a leadership position in any thing before politics. So the passion to unite was never in their hearts. It was this same group who bulldozed the then DLP Deputy leader after Pierre Charles died and forced a coup to install Skerro. It was all about money for the boys. So keeping these guys in power will make them more rich while the people remain poor. It is all by design.

Hurricane Skerrit- DLP please leave our land and go away, you have caused enough suffering. You are like a pebble in our shoes the more we tell you to get out is more you show signs of desperately wanting to remain.
The Gods have heard and spoken , so we are now seeing the signs of your demise. Too many storms , shootings, traffic accidents, child molestation, human trafficking , drug peddling, no health care and no jobs to make our own money. The country can’t take lazy leaders anymore. “Leave.”

:?: I saw a post, One Ambulance, One Fire Truck, One Airplane with 30 passengers, . Is this true?

    • jerry
      April 10, 2019

Okay i have to comment on this too, That i don’t get. One ambulance two firetruck, but the firetruck came out spraying water. What is the response time for the fire service with an aircraft incident on the runway, and not only that but, one fire guy or gal came out running to the airplane with no proximity gear. The passengers had already let themselves off the plane and were running away from the plane. No one seem to take control off the scene and direct passengers to anywhere. Does the fire dept. have the proper gear to respond to an aircraft fire do we have foam in the truck and are the firemen trained to access these types of aircraft during an accident. Those are questions for the Government. There is a lot more that is needed and i will just point out the most obvious one. Where is the Marigot Hospital that should be equipped to deal with a mass casualty situation should it arise?

Skerrit is ………….a vagabond that does not deserve to be PM of this country any longer! I mean show me one democratic elected PM in the world that’s still in office after publicly stating: … no law and no constitution can prevent me…

“and be sure your sin will find you out” Numbers 32:23..
Did our sin find us out? Better yet, did Skerrit sin find him out? All of last week people were protesting against the state of health on island and, the closure of the Marigot hospital especially in the event of a plane crash. Skerrit sent his army to scare the people and even arrested a protestor. But a few days later, a plane carrying Haitians crashed though no one was killed or seriously injured and that we thank God for. But why a plane loaded of Haitians? What were they coming to do? We’re they coming to help change our election results? This plane crash will no doubt send a very loud and strong message to those in the DIASPORA that might still be thinking of coming to vote Skerrit on our backs. That plane crash though no one died no doubt is a reminder to Skerrit. I hope he gets it and understands that our sin will find us out no matter how we try to hide our evil.

    April 9, 2019

Hurricane season is less than two months away and Dominica is already in the news with a plane crash of ……. Haitians? That was a joke but let’s put jokes aside and get real people. Has it dawned on you that nothing is going right in Dominica the last 20 yrs? We put the UWP out because we said they were corrupt. But since that day you realize things not working? First 9 months after the beloved Rosie became PM, he died in office. So Deputy leader Pierre Charles became PM. But 3 years later he too fell sick and died. Up to that time we were still shipping bananas to Europe and Ross University was blossoming. Then Skerrit became PM and it’s like all hell broke lose on us. Bananas died, followed by Erika that destroyed the South and south East, bridges were gone, the airport was a crisis parts of our roads were gone and many perished. Two years later Maria came and destroyed just about everything and again, many perished and then Ross University left us. Are we paying 4 something?

  15. MY EYES RED
    April 9, 2019

Boy the blood of Rosie and Pierro must be crying over Dominica because it cannot be real to see a country reeling like Dominica is reeling. It not normal man. I know Skerrit buried both Rosie and Pierro within four years in office but did these two stalwarts of the DLP die a happy death? I don’t know but since they died and Skerrit became PM Dominica seems to be always involved in some crisis man. Yes a plane crash happens all over the world and when a plane crashes airport will be closed for investigation but still, why Dominica? Why the airport that is always closed for rain or wind? Boy Rosie and Pierro didn’t seem to die a happy death and when Skerrit named his airport after they that caused those guys to turn in their grave man. I that speak to you is very RED to the point that everything about me is RED, including my eyes but Man I want to talk in layman language so all could understand but DNO will not post so let me shut up.

So everything in your mind is the Government? So shallow a mind you have. So now everything that happens then is the Government???? Way papa ! Where is your common sense. Don’t you know or must someone tell you that there are rules. regulations to follow whenever there is a mishap at any airport around the world. The aviation authority must give the go ahead to open any airport. Ignorance these days are worn as a badge of honor. Ask before you speak! think too!~

Stop complaining about little things. An investigation needs to be done before they can move the plane. Its a small country small airport. Deal with it. So thankful that nobody got hurt and that is a wake up call for Skerrit to build the Marigot Hospital.

Indeed that’s what a lazy no-brainer called Skerrit has made of Dominica. No proper airport, hospital, ailing agriculture, tourism, extremely high unemployment, no manufacturing, etc. Just passport selling. That’s Skerrit’s next level. Unless the embarrassment is kicked out by the electorate, it shall get worse.

% why don’t you become a contributing member of society instead of passing gas? You are so obsessed with Skeritte that he is living Rent free in your head. You like a street Dog just waiting for a bone to drop. % and views expressed get a life.

    • April 9, 2019

That’s one time % I tend to agree with you, Skerrit is a no brainer. Yes if the PM was smart he would not let you steal two scholarships that was meant for the children of Marigot. You children were not borne there nor have they attended school, or llived in Marigot, yet you saw it ok to award your children the scholarships. I agree with you Skerrite is dumb.
