On Friday, February 7, 2025, Dr. Gerard Jean-Jacques formally submitted his Letter of Credence as the Ambassador for Dominica to both the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and CARICOM during a virtual event.
According to a press release by the Office of the Prime Minister, during the ceremony, he reiterated Dominica’s dedication to regional cooperation and sustainable growth. Dr. Jean-Jacques emphasized critical areas of focus for Dominica, such as tackling climate change, advancing renewable energy, enhancing food security, improving housing, and bolstering education and healthcare services. He expressed enthusiasm for working with regional allies to confront common challenges. Moreover, he encouraged boosting investments in artificial intelligence to create innovative responses to the difficulties faced by the small island states in the region.
Acknowledging the rapidly evolving geopolitical environment, Dr. Jean-Jacques stressed the importance for CARICOM Member States to strategically redefine their internal networks and promote new partnerships aligned with CARICOM’s developmental ambitions. He suggested that such efforts would aid in the sustainability and political unity of the Community.
The new Ambassador also advocated for enhanced funding for education, training initiatives, and support for entrepreneurship, pointing out Dominica’s ongoing efforts to facilitate better access to financial resources for small business development.
Dr. Jean-Jacques holds a PhD in Political Science and has previously occupied roles as the Chief Development Planner and Permanent Secretary within the Office of the Prime Minister, as well as in the Ministries of National Security, Labour, and Immigration, and Tourism and Urban Renewal.
The statement also expressed congratulations from the Government of Dominica to Dr. Jean Jacques on his appointment sharing that it looks forward to ‘his contributions as he represents the nation’s interests at the regional level.”
