Dual citizenship case continues today

St. Jean (left), Skerrit

The hearing in the election petition matter involving Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt and Education Minister Petter St Jean is expected to continue today.

When the matter begins at 9:00 this morning Felix Prosper, a resident of La Plaine, is expected to take the stand for the petitioners.

When the matter was last heard on September 15, lead counsel for the petitioners Douglas Mendes requested an adjournment due the to unavailability of Prosper, one of the key witnesses, who was expected to give testimony. Prosper is an employee of a cruise ship and was not able to make it to Dominica to give testimony at that time.

Mendes then requested that Prosper’s witness statement be entered into evidence when he gives testimony today.

Justice Gertel Thom decided to adjourn the matter until today, insisting that written submissions be filed by September 28 before oral submissions on October 3.

The United Workers Party (UWP) is challenging the results of the 2009 election of Skerrit and St. Jean on the grounds that they were dual citizens at that time.

Of all things to focus on in the country dual citizenship is the best they can come up with? Who cares about who was born here or there or who is dual? Create employment in the damn country and stop all that blah bla about who holds passports from where ever. Goodness, when people have nothing else to do.

Rossie Douglas gave me all his passport to hide in the trunk under grand mamas bed…I’m taking it to the police station first thing tomorrow…and am gonna testify in court…I need a Paparazzi to take my pic and air brush it, make me look PRETTY…. like Beyonce, and I want a limousine and Champagne…don’t worry I Google all those big words…

My point is Rossie had dual citizenship for multiple countries….Skeritt, Peter and Ron were not the first, will not be the last, if by accident Ron green had won the 2009 election..he would have kept his mouth shot and carry on as the prime minister of Dominica…knowing damme well he had dual citizenship..sour looser…

    8) If the PM can say Dominica is hard to manage, I am packing up and heading to SVG to live and work, the government there already builds over 350 low income, middle income & high income homes, and now there are going to start to build 500 more houses. I am going there to get a job & one buy of those homes, I can get a job at the international airport, and they has lots of hotels & Resort, I can look for a job in those institution. SKerrit can’t manage the country, so I am packing up leaving for SVG…

When i read these comments it ache my heart to see such bias, ignorance and just in some cases plain stupidity.
I think the best gift i gave my daughter was letting her born outside of dominica.
Cant understand why we as a people seem to be so mediocre in our thinking, ambitions and overall desire for this country as a collective populace???
Just because you choose a side for whatever reason doesnt mean that you have to support every decision they made/make. Or support them against your own interest and that of your children.
Every parent should be thinking about opportunity for their kids; jobs, good education, good health services and a platform in which a dominican can accomplish his/her goals in her own country.
When you vote and support a party it directly and indirectly have an effect on whether you can or cant find a job, pay your bills, feed your kids, clothe your kids and provide them with the basic necessities.
D***mn it, enough with the red and blue crap.. Just because you love your kids you will allow them to kill, still and destroy and say let them go cause you love them.. Why you doing it for politicians??
Sick of this sh++t and the people in this country.

Pay very careful attention to this statement from Skerrit at the opening of Police Week 2011:
“…A few officers far and between who from time to time find themselves on the other side of the intelligence sharing and intelligence gathering. Let me say to you this evening that the intelligence community knows every single one of you by name and by rank. And for your own good and for the good of the security of the police officers, you have an opportunity to desist and cease from that activity as of tonight…”
Is Mr. Skerrit threatening police officers who don’t support him?

Most High ranking officials get assasinated by a Member of their own Security detail. And yes there is fear ! I have been hearing alot of “I am not afraid” from both sides of the aisle. That is a bunch of crap! As Humans we all are fearful, only a few real warriors and a few insane men are not fearful!
Martin Luther King during His struggles against racism was fearful but nevertheless made the sacrifice .So it is not that You are fearless rather You overcome fear by making the decision to continue the struggle regardless of the ultimate sacrifice “DEATH”

Investigate the indiscriminate mining, land use, investors by invitation…Tax payers Should not have their hundreds of millions in road contracts, have the largest ratio of ministers/populace of anywhere on earth, have so many highly paid advisors in the PM’s office only to suffer such massive damage from flash flooding with the distant passage of a tropical depression that passed 218 miles away

The man made flash flood disasters are a direct result of recent poor governance.

If the roads were constructed by local contractors who understand our terrain then the drains and designs would not have caused these flash floods.
If the indiscriminate deforestation and construction in the ‘wet area’ at ponde casse was managed properly then we would not have these flash floods.
If the ministers were to heed the warnings of the qualified agriculture, forestry and environmental units instead of politicking in the largest ever cabinet then we would not have these flash floods.
If we did not have this extremely top heavy set of government ministers (perhaps the largest ration of ministers/population of anywhere in the world)would allow the civil servants (who are answerable to the law)to do their jobs without political interference then we would not have such flash flooding for a simple tropical depression which was 218 miles away.

Dominica IS difficult to develop! We don’t have the mainstream attractions like whitesand beaches that bring tourists. We don’t have any precious minerals like bauxite etc..The banana industry is on its death bed. Where is the funding for development going to come from?

The one who is sinless throw the first stone. Aaaahhhhh not one of us can cast that stone as we are all sinners in God’s sight and he gave us grace which we do not deserve and sent his son to die for us. Stop this hatred and focus on the Lord “Jesus Christ” and if we do we will leave in peace withour fellowmen and love one another with the love that our Father shows us all

Isn’t the prime minister born in Dominica and also St Jean. I cannot see the problem. If I came back to Dominica which is my land of birth and wanted to run for election with dual nationality, that would be a problem to. Stop being hyprocrites, they are only jealous of the prime minister and other minister of cabinet. It’s their rights and they should stand their grounds. Stop wasting resources, put it in good use for some other important issues rather than this, not important.

While it may seem so to you but the country is governed by a constitution. We cannot go against the cconstitution to suit our needs. The rule of law should stand or else what example are we setting for our children. If however we feel that times have changed then we should take the necessary course to ammend the constitution accordingly. That is the right thing to do.

Sorry, but you are beening ignorant. The constitution which is the Law of the land doesn’t make provision for persons with dual citizenship, that is being a citizen of Dominica and having a foreign citizenship, to be members of the Parliament of Dominica. If you intent to engage yourself in the future in the political affairs of Dominica in terms of representantion of people in the Dominican parliament, you have no alternative, but to renounce your foreign citizenship. This is the law of the land.
