$250,000 for Campbell for small business development

Blackmoore is MP of the Mahaut Constituency

Parliamentary Representative for the Mahaut constituency, Rayburn Blackmoore, has said a sum of $250,000 dollars will go towards assisting 37 persons with the development of the small businesses in Campbell.

The money was handed over at a ceremony which took place in the community last week.

Blackmoore said the ceremony is in keeping with the promise made to villagers that the government will assist financially towards the mobilization of resources to sustain or start up their individual businesses, and appealed to them to utilize the funds as intended.

“Today I am here to simply keep a promise, but I want to say to you here today that those of you who shall be receiving those financial assistance, I want to also ask of you to promise me something, promise me that the monies will be used for the intended purposes, because if you fail to do so, you will be failing not only yourself, but you will be failing your entire community and the country by extension,” he said.

He said that the provision of financing is “exactly what politics ought to be about.”

“Politics in my view, as I have said before time and time again, ought to be about creating avenues and opportunities for persons to do things for themselves,” he remarked.

  5. Okay Blackmoore; lately we hear lots of talk about the giving away of money to people to aid in the development of so called small business. With all the talk we hear, we do not know what type of business you are talking about!

Lets’ face it; here you boast $250, 000.00 dollars to be divided among 37 people! An ignorant peasant who cannot read; does not know the color of money will leap into the sky, and give praises to you and Skerrit, not knowing the whol issue is nothing more than another pay off in bribes!

Let’s face reality with simple arithmetic: $250,000.00/37 = $6,756.76. That is six thousand seven hundred dollars, and seventy-six cents. So, you see Blackmoore how people like you can fool the unsuspecting making belief that you all are doing great things, that boils down to nothing.

One need more than that amount to start a Rum-shop, what kind of business six thousand dollars can start?

Why not try to use that amount to start something viable employing three or…

    • Finally:

Why not try to use that amount of money to start something viable employing three or four people in the interim hoping it will grow to employ more than 37 people. Giving that small amount of money to 37 people you know is not intended for any business, but to ensure your votes in the up coming election.

How about a small corporation going into the manufacturing of something for export out of the country, that’s how industries are created! You all can give pittance to your supporters from now till Kingdom come, that will not produce any business!

Correction: $250’000.00 given to the LABOUR PARTY SUPPORTERS of Campbell . In the mean time the school barely have a good wooden bench to sit on, zero sporting facilities, and a Health Center with expired bandages and unqualified attendents . History has proven that handouts doesn’t work (ask the UN and Africa ) educate and creat jobs instead . Hello.

Rayburn, you are a sorry case as a pal-Rep. I should have not voted for you. How can you make news of what you were elected to do?

Millions are being spread all over Dominica, however, if there is any real comprehensive plan for the development of small businesses there would be a clearing house for ideas/business plans with a monetary figure attached to capitalize each of these business ideas before moneys would be distributed.
This would ensure that the best ideas are prioritized and get adequate attention (money and human expertise) that would engender the likelihood of survival for the initiative..but when there is money dangling before communities airmarked for “business development” then what will happen is that many persons will come forward with shortplanned ideas that probably has not undergone any kind of feasibility check and in some cases likely to fail. If Dominica is to move forward, we must raise our standards and demand better of ourselves and for ourselves. Time Dominicans start voting for plans and Politicians stop planning for votes.

The way this guys are making these announcements seems like is a favor they making the people of their own constituencies! They voted for you Rayburn so what is $250,000 for a whole community? Are you by yourself the Parliament? To even approve and give money? Fisher-man by the bay mentality.
This should not even be news! Since this is what you all were elected to do in the first place! This DLP has taken national development to a next level. Shame on the politicians who make their citizens beg for what is rightly theirs.

YUP, seems that DNA is politically biased. Yall keep deleting my comments. Again why just give money out to any and everybody who claims they have a business. Why not encourage each community to develop viable community projects that will bring significant returns to the communities and in turn improve the standard of living in these areas? allow the villages to STOP RELYING ON GOVERNMENT for handouts and create their own wealth in the respective constituencies. whether its manufacturing project, or a tourism project or an Info technology project that the whole village can benefit from. I dont support the govt just giving money willy nilly to people who say they are business people with no reports given to the public on those who received.

$250,000.00 for 37 individuals? What type of a business could even start up under 7Gs? Maybe a cobbler shop. Come-on! What happened? The Millions are drying up?

      June 28, 2017

They are secretly buying votes. This kind of money will have absolutely NO impact in the respective communities except allow them to pay a bill and maybe purchase one small piece of equipment if even. Wasted money wasted resources. Well that is the votes of 37 families i suppose. Elections coming up.

Blackmoore Dominica needs factories. Factories to produce, transform and employ people day and night in order to allow a better flow of employment, well-being, and security in the country. The economics in one of the prime factors which create violence, burglaries, rape, and murder. What about if no one else needs to become a citizen of Dominica? What if these little businesses fail? What else will the government have to sell? Now it has become more difficult for Dominicans to travel due to that CBI passport which has made us hostage in our own country; while those who are in control can travel as they wish. Dominican cannot and should not continue to function economically by selling passports and offering money and objects during an election. We need sustainable development in order to have a growing economy.

With all these so called small business money being distributed all over the place expect a big reduction in the unemployment rate. It appears these funds are all grants. Is the audit department happy with the way funds are being disbursed and accounted for?

Meanwhile NEP applications still going in. Private sector not even hiring anymore, they just calling the NEP office and they send staff over which the government pays for. Need to office assistants free of charge? no problem call NEP. Right now students send their application mostly to the NEP office. year in year out they graduate. Ok on the books unemployment may look like it has decreased, but none of these jobs are sustainable. what happens if suddenly CBI money dries up. back to unemployment overnight. The government is in a position to allow a decentralization of commercial activity from Roseau. Allow the people to stop searching for work only in the roseau area. allow them to build up their respective communities with funding that can create viable jobs. 250,000 can start a small factory or processing plant and let operations roll. But no, you want to share it amongst your supporters where each MAY get about $5-7000. a slap in the face for any serious business person.

  15. June 27, 2017

This is an excuse to fool those that are blind and stupid but; note well that we are not all stupid. Take this money that you all are distributing and build factories; so that people may work during the day as well as during the night in order to develop Dominica because the country was more productive over 20 years ago.

right now they are forced to show the money and use it because the pressure on them. before we were clueless. we had no idea what was going on. This is in some way money laundering. who knows what they were doing with the money they collected 10 years ago. DLP in office 15 years now. all of a sudden we have money? before we were a poor nation begging all countries for money. now CBI money doing everything since CBS and Lennox and Rijock. It even paying for the staff of the private sector. right now employers not even hiring staf because they know the government will send NEP free of charge.
