The Dominica government has already spent more than EC$53-million on a key housing programme known as the Housing Revolution.
That’s what Housing Minister Reginald Austrie told parliament on Friday.
The minister also indicated that the government was trying to spend another $10 million through the AID Bank, “to give public officers a further opportunity, because we had already given some $12 million to the Government Housing Loans Board for on-lending to its members, public officers”.
He said public officers have been taking advantage of that opportunity that allows them to get loans at five per cent.
According to the minister, this reflects the government’s wish “to take care of its public officers”.
On the question of housing in the country in general, Austrie told parliament that the Labour Party government found that there were five thousand houses that were in need of repair when it came into office.

I mean I go High school and eat my bout-cida but these figures don’t make sense at all. Now housing revolution should not be just for public officers I paying tax too and I need house too. So Mr. Austrie tell me public officers alone that vote last election nah? Besides that where was the housing pie distributed nah because 6 sheets of Plywood and 5 sheets of galvanize can not cost that much.
The Minister of Finance should fire Austrie for saying these figures in parliament. what happen your neck get so big it blocking blood flow to your brain because not even a person that get a stroke can make these figures make sense in a population of 60 thousand plus when only 1000 new households were recorded in the last census.

This is absolutely nonsensical and whoever believes this is completely crazy! how can a government spend 53million ec dollars on housing development for a country that only has 72000 (or there abouts) people living in it? you understand what that means? let me put this into perspective:
EC$ 53,000,000 / 72000 people = EC$ 731,000 PER RESIDENT OF DOMINICA.
if the government honestly spend 53 million on housing, every single resident in dominica should be living in a house worth upwards of half a million dollars.

one thing I have come to realize is that whenever a fact is evident against the labor party, their supporters usually shout their mouth and say nothing.However, if it is something that is not transparent to see they jump all over intelligent and truthful matters just to defend their government. It tells me that these supporters are just bias and usually sing for their supper. Why none are supporting the minister? Why are none directing us to the construction which has taken place? Why are non saying that they have been employed due to this 53 million which has been spend in the construction boost? thanks for the great job in this housing revolution.I lived in an area where some of my neighbours really needed help with their houses.This was done and it definitely enhanced and improve their living conditions.And the strange thing is one of them is not a supporter of the labour party.Wonderful job.

Why should public officers get a special rate at the expense of the rest of us tax payers!!! That’s like a BRIBE in return for special favours from these officers. That’s why many officers look the other way when things are being done wrong. They remember who gave them that “special rate”!!

How can people with basic common sense bite onto this housing revolution crap. A housing revolution (53 million dollars) should have spill over effects that the economy should be riding on right now. Every time these guys talk about a housing revolution it makes me angry. What is even more insulting is that they have been bragging about this housing revolution for the last 5 years. Other than a few charitable homes built by the Chavez gift show us the impact of the “housing revolution.” The construction industry is yet to show any improvement for the last 12 years. The closest we came to a housing boom was back in the mid 80’s to early 90’s. I can attest to that because this is my area of expertise.
This government for the last 5 years have been talking about a housing revolution yet young trades men had to migrate to Anguilla and Antigua in search of jobs; the business places selling building material did not go into a hiring blitz, architects, draftsmen, engineers, contractors cannot say that they made money. The few cabalist who were micromanaging the Chavez pink houses are the only ones who made money on the Chavez dollar. Mr Austrie must present to us the concrete proof that we had a housing revolution. These guys must stop this crap and deal with reality. Unless they do so we the people will continue to suffer the consequences of an administration to brash, ignorant and arrogant to deal with the real situation on the island.
