The Cooperative Division observes Cooperative Week 2011, under the international theme “Youth and Entrepreneurship Development”, from July 2 to 8, 2011.

This year the Cooperative  Division is also making major preparations for the United Nations International Year of Cooperative and has had to adjust the intensity of the week’s  activities accordingly.

The focus will be on the productive cooperatives and will highlight the potential of the beekeeping sector in Dominica.

The activities for the week will include the International Cooperative Day Message will be aired on DBS radio on International Cooperative Day (Saturday July 2), an official ceremony and cocktail on Monday 4th July 2011, addresses will come from the Minister of Cooperatives  and the Minister of Agriculture.

In addition the Division will facilitate one-day workshop on Participatory Approaches to Management for Beekeepers.  Mr. Clive Bruyn a respected Beekeeper, author and trainer operating in the United Kingdom will facilitate the workshop.  A number of young people will also benefit from training in theory and practical sections in Bee Keeping.

It is anticipated that direct focus on the beekeeping sector will strengthen the two local Beekeeping Cooperatives on the island and encourage the participation of youths in the sector.
