Cabinet to take action relating to lands in Fond Toma

Austrie

A paper will be brought to cabinet within the next two weeks to address access to lands in Fond Toma.

The Housing Minister explained the technicalities which has prevented residents who have been there for several years from claiming legal ownership of the lands.

“When we acquired the land, we acquired it for agricultural purposes. Now, Fond Toma is basically a housing development with lights, road, water, telephone and other amenities. Some of people who were involved in selling the land to the State are putting up a case saying that if we sell that land for housing purposes, they are going to challenge the decision in court. So we need to be very careful and very technical and get some legal advice as to how we proceed. Therefore, within two weeks, a paper will go to Cabinet and we will take the matter from there.”

Fond Toma is situated between Boetica and Delices.

instead of allowing the chines to establish in roseau, the goverment should give them a piece of land to develope a china town like all the other countries in the world. Why in dominica they have to do things defferent.

Are you serious? you think the Gov. should GIVE the chinese a piece of land to establish a china town?? are you out of your cotton picking mind? do you know how long it took for the kalinagos to get a piece of land to establish themselves? Chinese came here by choice, not even as refugees, economic citizenship wi and we should GIVE them land??!!!!Next thing you will say we should give the Hatians a portion too. Portsmouth people protesting for their land, Delices people been waiting decades for that land and the best you can say is give de chinese some land. Why don’t we start with giving them YOUR land if u have any, i all suspect you sell ur passport and land already and carry ur new motherland’s passport. hey u should ask them to give you some land to establish yourself. SMDH!!

I thought, we meant the government rather than the DLP administration.

Government is always government regardless of which political party governs.

All contracts signed by government must be complied with by any other administration.

Government is forever; a political party taking up the reins of power can be voted out but government is always there!!!
That is why I always laugh when people say the government of Dominica is corrupt!!!

I am waiting to hear what will come out of this . We in that area have been waiting a long time for this . Our parents worked too hard for Mr Blomquist and got nothing out of it . Just the slavery thing again and again .
It is time for justice to be given to the people in this area.

Thank you James. Yes. Fond Toma is that gently sloping piece of land between Delice and the mouth of the White River where the Delices Primary School, playing field and cemetry is located. It is not between Delices and Boetica, It used to be owned by the Swede Mr. Bomquist before government aquired it many years ago under Freedom Pary I believe

Thank you reason it would be nice if the reporters at DNO could do some background research on the place before they write it’s not a beth is a story.

    A word to the minister:
what dominica lacks is proper land use legislation. we can basically take a piece of land any where and do whatever we like on it. what i suggest is that the necessary authorities go back to the drawing board with this, make some new maps of the island, identify the different areas on island, do some proper soil studies etc. and based on the findings zone the island in such that we have areas designated for urbanization, agriculture, industry, rain forest protected areas, exclusive use for tourism etc. the accompany this with proper legislation and thus make it easier to have some control on this land use issues.
