The Castle Bruce Family and Friends Reunion 2011 was officially launched this morning, seven years after the first instance of the Reunion was held in 2004, under the theme “Celebrating our Successes….Building our Tomorrow”.
The event will be hosted from 6-14 August 2011.
Member of Parliament for the Castle Bruce constituency Johnson Drigo, in his remarks at the launching, stated that plans to host the event again were based on the success of the previous staging.
“Seven years ago, the Castle Bruce Community welcomed hundreds of villagers living abroad and thousands of patrons from the length and breadth of Dominica to an overwhelming atmosphere of togetherness, fun, sharing and entertainment. From then on, ideas for another opportunity for reuniting were conceived,” Drigo remarked.
The MP recognized a number of benefits from the past event and said that the committee for the reunion will seek to turn those into even greater ones. Drigo said that the event is geared towards showcasing the community as well as an opportunity to cement plans for the economic and social aspects of the community.
He also stated that there have been instances of increased economic development occurring in the community and that that is expected to continue throughout the Reunion period.
Drigo said, “We are really looking forward to building on the benefits of the Reunion, this time around. Recently, we have also seen some painting going on, people adding rooms to their houses in preparation for hosting relatives and for Reunion and it’s likely that these small projects are funded by relatives in the Diaspora. So, there is a small bit of economic activities already existing.”
The Reunion will feature a number of sporting activities, culture and talent exhibits, traditional Market Day, religious services and entertainment showcases that will run throughout the week, during which the committee expects the numbers of returning villagers to far exceed the 800+ who participated in 2004.

Is Mrs Bannis-Roberts involved this time around? I know some years aback she was in the center of it all. Does anyone know where she is , by the way? Now that she is said to be involved in this “diaspora” connection , she should be able to play even a bigger and better part in this one. Can someone share some light on this please? Thanks. Maybe you should not call yourself hardcore dominican because if you really was a hardcore dominican you would have known that this was being planned about two years ago..so i suggest that you keep more intouch with your peeps in castle bruce or infact go down more often..no hard feelings
