Castle Bruce Parl Rep meets with constituents in Guadeloupe

Drigo (right) at the meeting with constituents

On Saturday November 26, Parliamentary Representative for the Castle Bruce constituency, Johnson Drigo met with persons from Castle Bruce, Good Hope, San Sauveur, Petit Soufriere area living in Guadeloupe.

According to Drigo, the purpose of the visit was to have a dialogue with all his constituents, first of all, to thank them for the tremendous contribution they have made and are still making towards the development the constituency and Dominica and to present to them what Dominica has to offer in the areas such as housing, skills development, agriculture and tourism, but most importantly, to examine how they could further assist the constituency in moving forward.

Among some of the areas discussed were, to see how the constituents could sponsor some of the children of the constituency whose parents are unable to afford to send them to high school and how they can assist in the various development projects in the constituency. Drigo also presented some of his achievements since becoming parliamentary representative, one of them being able, through sponsors, put more street lights in some areas that were too dark.

Drigo said, a six-member steering committee was set up to meet and dialogue with his constituency association in Dominica so that both parties can benefit in a mutual and successful manner. Through the discussions he is hoping that by early 2012, they can see a more transparent and meaningful contribution coming out of Guadeloupe to Dominica and from Dominica to Guadeloupe.

Prior to the meeting with his constituents, on Friday November 25, Drigo met with the heads of other Dominican associations and clubs in an encounter organized by the Dominica Guadeloupe Association. The purpose of the encounter was to share and present ideas of how the other associations could create a unified body of all Dominicans in order to have a bigger and more positive impact on the Dominican community in Guadeloupe.

According to Drigo, “All in all, I was very impressed and satisfied with the discussions and the turnout and I’m looking forward to meeting with my constituents in other major countries and cities around the world.”

CONSTITUENCY DEFINITION:the residents in an electoral district. Check the word RESIDENT. If you are living over seas you are no longer a resident of that constituency. Why not have a really great meeting with your village and find out from them what is going right or wrong. OH, I FORGOT, THEY ARE POOR AND CANNOT HELP YOU!

I’ve notice that everybody wants the government to steer their way in LIFE. Take Note: Get up OFF YOUR a#$ and do something to move the constituency forward.

Focus 90% of your time on solutions and only 10% of your time on problems.

Well we Dominican are something else, it is OK for Lennox Linton, Ron Green and other members of the UWP to set up a Pay Pal account, or collecting money from Money Gram, asking Dominicans for money to pay their court fees , and never disclose how much they get, wayy papa.

It is amazing how “CRAB IN A BUCKET” Syndrome continue to affect us in this time and age. No matter what positive someone does there is always another with that syndrome doing their best to discourage and pull them down.

If Mr. Drigo is not performing well “yes” then vote him out the next election. It is at these event that we should take to opportunity to question him on his performance and demand better of him. There is good and bad in all of us.

After 3yrs representing you constituent and after 8 yrs with DLP representation all you have to show is 2 or 3 Street lights in dark areas in the community?
No wonder the people in that area are poorer, their health services has gone from bad to rediculous, Agriculture in that productive area has been totally destroyed. So u in Guadad asking them to help the less fortunate after DLP have made the people in that area worse than what they used to be…Beggars!!
Save the country Taxes and money and stay home and develope the place then Dominicans in Guada will come and see then they can we we making strides…u will have no need to go to them and beg….
27 million building state palace — did u tell them about that ?

Election is 3years away and In the Castle Bruce Constituency, there is not need to go out and ask persons to come home to vote. They will decide based on achievement.

I commend the minister on taking on such an initiative. Dominicans all over the world are willing to help, but we need that direct contact with ministers of government in order to have these discussions. Hopefully other ministers will do what Hon. Drigo is doing.
The Ministry responsible for Diaspora affairs should set up an email address or facebook page through which Dominican nationals could communicate with the government. Anyone with a question about helping or returning to Dominica would send in their questions to that ministry. Ensure that one or two employees find the responses in a timely manner.
    Congratulations!
