Contracts signed for concrete works on Carholm, Salisbury Heights feeder roads

Two contracts in the tune of over $400,000 have been signed for concrete works on the much talked-about Carholm, Salisbury Heights farm access roads.

Parliamentary Representative of the St Joseph constituency, Kelver Darroux said on state-owned DBS Radio that actual work will begin shortly.

“Since the approval of the contract for the Carholm, Salisbury Heights farm access roads by the Honourable Prime Minister, the Ministry of Public Works has in fact signed two contracts with two local contractors for the effect of the concrete aspect of the works on that road,” he said. “One contract is to the tune of $152,000 and another contract to the tune of $254,000 will begin shortly for the actual concrete aspect of that road rehabilitation.”

Darroux stated that he is very grateful to the Ministry of Finance for making the funds available at a time when the entire world is still grappling with the financial crisis.

He revealed that the government had the opportunity to visit the roads to see “firsthand” their “deplorable condition.”

“And that is why the Prime Minister, through his intuition, could not wait on funds from the Banana Accompanying Measures, but he made the funds available and I am very pleased for that,” he explained.

Darroux encouraged farmers to place greater emphasis on farm production.

“Once the works have been completed, I want to encourage all the farmers within the St Joseph, the Mero, even the Salisbury area to place greater emphasis on production on their farms,” he noted. “The farmers have been crying for better roads, the government is addressing the issue and we hope that they will in fact take advantage of the opportunity of better farm access roads.”

Darroux further mentioned that the government has invested heavily in the agricultural sector and in the new financial year budget, “we will see quite a bit of funds being made available towards the agricultural sector.”

“We are very grateful for the works that has started and once the works are completed we will see greater production,” he stated.

Darroux also pointed out that farmers have a responsibility to maintain the roads.

“If a tree falls across the road, if the drains are blocked, when you are going up to your farms you can just simply take your farm tools and clear the road and that is the responsibility that the farmers also have to play,” he remarked.

It would be very interesting to see whether the job is done eventually. Why do I say this? First of all the contractors are not named and the tendering process not informed. Secondly, the Parl. Rep. sounds like he is giving a maypwi when he says the farmers were “crying”. In my opinion, whether the protest was illegal or not people have a right to show their dissatisfaction especially when it affects their welfare and have complained for years about it. Also even if Hon. Darroux knows about farming (which I don’t think he does) I find it insulting for him to tell the farmers to place greater emphasis on farm production. What does he think the farmers want the roads for?

    Who are the contractors?
Do they meet the basic contractual requirements?
    Do they have the equipements?
Do they have the start up Capital?
Do they have the basic human resource?
Why was Kelver afraid to mention their names?
We are be watching and we will react accordingly. This BS is too glaring and has to be stopped.

Simple comprehension and mathematics boys, the answer is right here in the text:
Two contracts in the tune of over $400,000 has been signed for concrete works on the much talked-about Carholm, Salisbury Heights farm access roads.
One contract is to the tune of $152,000
another contract to the tune of $254,000
    $152,000 + $254,000 = $406,00
Answer: Two contracts in the tune of over $400,000
Do some addition and subtraction for homework boys!

A picture is worth one thousand words. The photo depicts the deplorable condition of farm access roads in Dominica. Unfortunately, there are those who still want to argue that conditions have changed. The paltry sum of $406,000.00 is a grand joke for a country that “Talks” agriculture.

Carholm has been deplorable dating back to my days at Grammar School and that was years ago. It’s a darn shame that our farmers have to deal with this and yet still we are forced to listen to “Empty Speeches” from the likes of Drigo and before him, do-nothing-Walters.

I would not publicize the actual amount, if I were the powers that be. Then again, when you’re accustomed to fooling the masses, why not pretend that worthless trinkets are actully gold and silver.

    So who are the Contractors?

    July 22, 2015

It is most interesting that the Ministry of Public is issuing contracts to private contractors (who the heck are these contractors, friends of Skerrit?) While the Public Works Department is languishing because of lack of work. Government owes Public Works workers hundreds of thousands in unpaid wages and social security contributions. Rather give public works dept work Skerrit sends armed police to the public works department to intimidate the workers demonstrating against the government deliberate destruction of the public works department. AS A MATTER OF FACT LETS WAIT TO SEE IF THE ROAD WILL BE COMPLETED, THESE GUYS TELL SO MANY LIES, IT’S INTOLERABLE. BUT WE STILL WANT TO KNOW THE DARN CONTRACTORS.

A police station was built for $3 million dollars – several labour strong holds were given $100, 000 s – who are these guys fooling? Dominica is Agriculture yet they are choosing to punish people who dont support them

It’s good that they are making an attempt to fixed the roads when is the start date of the when a contract is signed for work there is a start and end date This seems to be missing.

    These people are not serious!

Look at this the boy bishop was given five ($500,000.00) hundred thousand dollars to put a roof on a building. Now they say they signed contracts in an amount of eight ($806,000.00) thousand dollars to carry out work on the road.

How many square feet of a building roof can five hundred thousand dollars cover, and how many square feet in miles can this peanut $806,0000 – cover? By the time the contractors extract their part of the money to pay themselves, and employees, there will be nothing left to buy materials to carry out the construction. Hence, the people of Salisbury will once again holding the short end of the stick stock in the same place as before!

I know I am dumb, never went to school, never learn to count from one to a hundred, nether can I add. However:

        $400,000.00 + $152,000.00 + $254, 000.00 = $806,000,00.

I have a feeling that a little jumbie in my head told me if someone add:
        400,000.00
        152,000.00
        254,000.00 we must arrive at:
        806,000.00

I think even that boy Skerrit can add that mentally, and arrive at eight hundred six thousand dollars also.

Which kindergarten school did you attend?

Francisco, please don’t be so heard headed. The article says TWO contracts were signed to the tune of $400,000, not three contracts. I admit they used poor grammar – two contracts “was” signed instead of “were signed”, but still there are only two contracts to a total value of $406,000. I guess that is is close enough to warrant the expression “to the tune of $400,000”. Read it again please and I’m sure you will come to the same conclusion.

There are two contracts $152,000.00 and $254,000.00 where did you get the third one from. That kindergarten schooler seem to be doing better than you.

“Two contracts in the tune of over $400,000 has been signed for concrete works on the much talked-about Carholm, Salisbury Heights farm access roads.” that’s in the article.

Then we have another contract for $254,000.00 and another for $152,000.00, that adds up to $406,000.00 actually: now, I am only wrong if there are only two signed contracts. In any event if that in the quote above is a separate contract, then it must be eight hundred six thousand dollars

I hope I am correct because if I am not, I am a dead man; Facts, and Elizabeth are going to take my body and soul out of this universe! And if they are only spending four hundred six thousand dollars on the project that is absolutely child’s play, it is worst than I thought!

      • Francisco Telemaque
        July 23, 2015

Okay, I read it back; it said specifically two contracts: So, I am very wrong; hence any name I am called I have to accept it and take what I get, and pray that Elizabeth and Facts don’t read this one!

Another prime piece of DLP propaganda. What a lot of BS. Words, words words and more words but not one bit of tangible information but plenty of homage to the ‘Supreme Leader’. I believe all this when I see the work finished. And by the way, who would be the contractor/contractors and by which criteria were they selected? Did it go through usual tendering process?
