The government of Dominica has signed contracts for the undertaking of four projects in the Roseau Valley area, totalling at about $506,000.

They were all assigned to local contractors and at a signing ceremony on Tuesday Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Valley constituency, Colin McIntyre, explained the project consists of road edge reinstatement, including the construction of retaining walls, and associated works in the Fond Canie area, at $78,588.13; works along the Laudat main road, near the Trafalgar Laudat intersection, costing $91,054.70; work along the road to Ti Tou Gorge, totaling $137,569.75; and on the upper section of the Laudat road, valued at $199,617.

The first two projects are to be conducted by Curtis Luke, while the other two will be overseen by Harris Hodge, of Laudat, and Alvin Charles, respectively.

McIntyre asked that the contractors employ skilled persons in the Roseau Valley area, first and foremost.

“The people of the Roseau Valley are looking forward to employment, we expect you to engage the people of the Roseau Valley…” he said. “We have people who are skilled, they can do the work. Let’s engage our young people … and put our people to work and let’s protect and build the Roseau Valley.”

Minister of Public Works and Ports, Miriam Blanchard, revealed that more works are on the horizon.

“There are a number of other interventions that are planned for the Roseau Valley area. Those include work on the Trafalgar Bridge, Copthall Bridge, the Papillote area, to include construction of retaining wall. Also, the construction of drainage structures, in Trafalgar, near the church, as well as in the Cabarnaise area,” she divulged.

The government, she stated, is working feverishly to complete the design phase of those projects.

Recently a local fraternity in the construction sector complained that not enough contracts are given to local constructors.

Wow!! another Chess Move, Mr Prime Minister!!!

Dangle this little crumb to deflect from the gross injustice done to the local construction companies. You exclude them from the process and does not give them a chance to bid on the major project on the island because you say they are not capable and are not experience enough.

We the people of Dominica gave you a chance, why the vote of No Confidence by you and your government on the local industry in Dominica?

Your action goes against Our very own Dominica National Anthem that calls for Her Sons and Daughters to come forward::

COME YE FORWARD, SONS AND DAUGHTERS
    Of this gem beyond compare.
Strive for honour, sons and daughters,
Do the right, be firm, be FAIR.
Toil with hearts and hands and voices.
WE MUST PROSPER! Sound the call,
    In which ev’ryone rejoices,
“ALL FOR EACH and EACH FOR ALL..”

This is the calibre of a creature we are dealing with . He is very much concerned about his so called reputation. Once it is in rags he quicly dives in and do something about it. We must expose him via the media its the only way we will get him to respect us. Next its the talented Artists in the Music Industry we need the help from the Government who is not responding to our requests for support Members in the Music industry is ready to expose him . The Musical fraternity we will expose him soon. Time will tell.

Five hundred and six thousand dollars is a far cry from eighteen million dollars.

That is only six thousand dollars more than it cost to cover the roof of the Roman Catholic building in Roseau that was the amount given to the boy bishop!

If that amount is to be used in digging, leveling and patching feeder roads, which does not require much scientific, nor academicals skills is nothing more to appease those who signs such contracts.

What about the big one? Why could Skerrit give the few dollars contract to his Barbadian friends, and the major worthwhile contract to a native Dominica building engineering firm if one exists in Dominica!

Are the people signing that contract counting pennies from god Skerrit, or are they accepting the crumbs the devil leaves?

Sir, what are you waiting for? For a repeat of what happened in Pond Casse AND Morne Prosper a couple of years ago?

Doctor Mac, do people have to LOSE their lives before the road is fixed?? MY GOD IN HEAVEN!!!

I would really like to know what it is that Cockrane Villagers have done to you, Doctor Mac.

This is utter disrespect and disregard on your part, Sir

A master strategist at work here. The blessed and divine Supreme Leader surely knows how to deflect negative public attention from his misdeeds. Here, we see our esteemed psychologist Supreme Leader at his best…after giving the whole loaf of bread to a foreign company (absent legal tendering) with regards to the works at the West Bridge in Roseau, he gathers up the crumbs and throws it at the “hungry locals” to shut up the mouths of the outspoken critics. At this point, the dedicated and die-hard Labourite Loyalists will come out, guns blazing, to defend their Emperor, Savior and King! Kairi FM will undoubtedly have several hours of radio coverage (filled with insults and derision) geared at providing the Labourites with the words and phrases that they will use to defend their Master! Tired and coward so-called patriots will (as is normal in Dominica) run to Q95 to make comments and short speeches then tuck their tails between their legs and run away from REAL ACTION!

One thing I have to admit is that this prime minister have some brains. This move seems to be well calculated down perfection. After coming under harsh criticism for awarding the bridge to the Bajans, the kindergarten apprentice prime minister has learnt his lesson and is trying to make amends for the disrespect and rudeness that was shown to the local contractors in recent times. But I still must wonder if these local contractors are Laborites only??? Besides the public works involvement I’m not sure who the rest are so I won’t speculate. You might have some brains Dr. Medard Skeritt but it’s just too easy to see right through your plotted calculations.
