Dominica to receive major exposure in US

Dominica will receive major exposure in the US market on Tuesday February 17, courtesy of Jungle Bay.

The hotel will be featured in the long-running TV game show “The Price is Right” where an adventure package will be given as one of the show’s coveted prizes.

Jungle Bay’s owner, Sam Raphael, said now is the ideal time to promote tropical destinations because of the cold winter being experienced in sections of the US market.

“Much of the US is experiencing a cold and difficult winter at the moment, so it is the ideal time to promote tropical destinations in the US market,” he said. “Jungle Bay is undertaking the promotion, however Dominica and the other hotels on the island will also benefit because of the free publicity this promotion brings to the destination.”

He said it is important that the opportunity is seized to market Dominica as a unique destination.

“It is very important that we seize every available opportunity to brand Dominica as a unique and exciting destination in the minds of potential visitors,” he stated.

Jungle Bay, with its 35 eco-cottages, was recently selected as the third best hotel in the entire Caribbean for 2015 by the travel review organization Trip Advisor.

This is the second time a Jungle Bay vacation package will be featured on “The Price is Right.”

I honestly don’t see the big deal…I’m still trying to figure out how to get to Dominica from Boston in one day (without having to sit in Puerto Rico’s airport for more than 8 hours…for those of you who think it’s such a great idea!)

    • Dominican
      February 11, 2015

Try and make it to Puerto Rico no later than 1:30PM on the day of your trip.., you will have enough time to catch the 2:50-3:00PM Liat flight PR to Antigua then Dominica. I have done this route many times and end up arriving in DA between 5:30-6:00PM on the same day.

Note you will have to book your Liat tickets separate from your Boston to Puerto Rico ticket.

take USAIR to St Maarteen and then Winair, or Bvi airways into Dominica, you will be in Dominica by 4pm,

Yes you can arrive to DA without sitting in Barbados or PR. Just have to know what to do. Do liat on their website and fly another US air to PR. Or Fly US air to St Martin and then take Air Antilles to DA. And you save money too. Ticket price for $600-$800. Or to fly to Barbados and then DA. You just have to do your homework.

Think about it… the DLP paid for multiple well-known artists to converge upon Dominica to ensure Skerrit’s re-election. We accepted that hundreds or thousands of people received free tickets to return to the island to ensure this DLP win. Cost =$30M+

Imagine if $30M+ was used to conduct a promotion providing free tickets to folks who had Never visited Dominica. Perhaps they could participate in a social media competition to spread the word about the country as enrollment in this giveaway.

Next phase would include international artists promoting Dominica, and inviting others to join them for world class concerts there, which are broadcasted around the globe, and held throughout the year to keep our names in the headlines.

Just imagine how proud Dominicans would have been! But instead we cry that the country is too poor for this sort of marketing investment, but willingly accept that a political party can raise & spend the same amount for a reelection bid!

Its a sad sad day for the state of tourism in Dominica, when we get so excited over a spot on the Price is Right. What are the expected outcomes? Do we think there will be DROVES of people flocking to our shores b/c of this product placement? Lets compare this to the continuous run of well placed, informative ads for St. Lucia, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the USVI, etc. etc. that one sees frequently on US tv. Lets not delude ourselves people, this is great promotion for Jungle Bay, but without continuous marketing, this is a mere blip on the minds of potential vacationers.

DDA (with support of too many Dominicans) think that just be showing a Dominican flag and one-off bizarre public stunts like the embarrassing Sochi Olympic skiers, we will turn the tide in our dismal tourism industry. Lets get real people. Ivor Nassief has said it many times, we need to invest REAL money into REAL marketing, probably along the lines on what was spent by the DLP this last election!

I am pleased that Jungle Bay in Dominica will be shown on TV and a price offered for a vacation there. I can imagine the enthusiasm of even the viewers who would like to get a trip to D/ca.
Yes! The exposure will also do Dominica well. Will inform others I know in especially the US and Canada to view the program.

The question is where is Jungle Bay and you don’t know but it is in d/a they spent so much money to send you to school and you learn the wrong things. you complained about Politician and you do the same thing. There is only but one Boss in Dominica And the super power love him so where does that leave you ? out of a job.I have said this before Dominica has no brain is the people but they refused to obey rules and follow orders ,but, when they go to other people ‘s country they do as they are told.Dominica owes you nothing but you owe Dominica,Think of what sin did Christ commit he was telling the truth

” This is the result of a partnership between the Government of Dominica and hotelier Sam Rafael intend to boost Dominica’s image abroad as a premier Eco-tourist destination among North Americans.”

I do not believe it for one second that Government will go into anything with same, further I can ask Sam if this is true. Besides I know someone who is very close to Sam, and if that is true he would know! I can ask him; and I will! Where the hell was government when Sam on more than one occasion utilized the Price is right to advertise his business?

The Sam spends his money, to advertise his business. If government had a penny invested in that it would have made news headline in Dominica, Piper Skerrit, and all of these useless incompetent politicians would be trying to rub shoulders with Sam only to be in “ting!” and get their face on DNO!

You are just a hater Telemaque. you must realize by now at your age that people don’t get to be successful in life by themselves. other people have to believe in and support their endeavors. its ironic that you claim that the government is an elected dictatorship and they control everything yet you try to distance that very statement from the success stories that have risen from this government being in power… stop hating. Like the old saying goes ‘si il bon dis bon’ ebeh il bon!

Anyone ever told you that your comments are a sad sack and a fault finder? Always criticizing and finding faults. Do you ever offer compliments? What type of person are you? I do not think you make a good conversationalist. Your comments are depressing. They could also discourage some people. Time to change your format to uplifting and enlightening comments.
When you especially meet strangers and they ask you what country you are from, what do you tell them? Do you inform them of the good that D/ca has to offer thus encouraging them to visit D/ca when they plan a trip? In view of all your negative comments, would love to know.

As DNO posted, it is on Tuesday, February 17th. It may be shown at other times.
The Price is Right is usually shown in the evenings. I believe the time may be approximately 7:00 pm or later. Check the programming. You know, in the event you may not be home early, you could also program your TV, etc. to tape it for viewing at another time.

What Colin piper failed to do you are doing Sam….happy for you and I say give you all your credit…..it’s yours…..no matter who benefits ultimately.

If all the monies spent on travel at DDA could be channeled through in the right direction, we would have been far in our tourism business, and we are not talking about cruise tourism here….

      February 10, 2015

It is not way to go Dominica, it is “way to go “Sam Rafael ” if there anyone should get the credit, that credit belongs to Sam and Jungle Bay exclusively. When you say “go Dominica” you are give credit to government, and all the dead organization in Dominica calling themselves Tourist Association, they are not doing fart to promote the country as a tourist destination.

That is the way we behave in our country, one person makes the effort, and if it becomes successful everybody takes credit, but the actual person who thought of it and set it up their name is mentioned in our history. Case and point: The Creole Art Festival in Dominica is the brain child of a relative of mine, his grandmother is from Wesley She lived in New Town, she just happened to be one of my biological aunts. What her grand son got for his efforts, I suppose he went into the PM hospital walking, and in a matter of days he came out carried feet first. Give Sam all the criddit!

Wonder what would your comment – or criticisms – be if the article read something like, “Dominica will be featured on the Award-winning, daytime gameshow, The Price is Right all of this week. This is the result of a partnership between the Government of Dominica and hotelier Sam Rafael intend to boost Dominica’s image abroad as a premier Eco-tourist destination among North Americans.”

The fact is, the article does not say the above, nor do we know if the coming publicity is a consequence of the two entities (Government and Sam) working together to pull this off. What difference does it make really? Dominica on a whole is the ultimate beneficiary.

You behave, Francisco, as if your continued partisan bias – and attempt to Balkanize our small country – is helping (and not hurting) our country folk.

I have promised myself before not to ever comment on this man’s continuous exposure of his sick and nonsensical mind, but I break my own rule this time to say how glad I am that God removed him from this blessed land and landed him in that US melting pot of the good the bad and the ugly. Enjoy your nonsense over there Bro and always pray that you won’t ever need to once again cross the Dominica bridge that you are trying your best to burn. Life holds a lot of surprises you know!

Now to the topic! As I have said before in this medium, Sam is a true patriot. He tried his hand at politics did not succeed but did not just turn and join the ranks of idle and venomous haters. He went back to work! Congratulations to him and his team. If my memory serves right I believe that funds from the Dominica Economic citizenship programme were invested in Jungle Bay’s start-up. This made the news some years ago! If I am correct, it is a win win for Sam, Dominica & Dominicans! Keep…

PS. I have also read people’s comments and ratings on Tripadvisor. People like you and Gregor Nassief, only to mention two, do an outstanding job to put Dominica in a postitive light. Our island is a treasure. Not only for pirates and scammers

I’ll be at work but I’ll definitely set my DVR to record. I’ve been saying for years that DA hotels should offer prize packages on game shows…price is right, wheel of fortune etc…even on talk shows when the hosts give out prizes. That’s a market we should break into, the cost of the package does not outweigh the potential revenue and exposure.

    Good job Jungle Bay!
