Center, the area in Grand Bay where the people of Dubique will be relocated is beginning to take shape.

Members of the Ministerial Subcommittee for Resettlement including Hon. Ian Douglas, Hon Francine Baron, Hon Dr Kenneth Darroux and Hon Dr. John Colin McIntyre visited the site on Monday, March 15th.

Hon McIntyre is Chairman of the subcommittee. He is pleased that work is progressing satisfactorily on the site.

Hon McIntyre reported that a number of houses at varying levels of completion have been erected.

He says excavation for the last ten houses is currently ongoing.

The Minister foresees the first 20 homes complete and handed over by Easter.

“We are trying our best. There are a number of challenges but we are fighting them and our aim to get these houses built as soon as by Easter. The remaining work like roads and utilities will follow soon after….Very soon from now, we will be able to talk about moving our people into these houses,” Dr. McIntyre assures.

Contractor, Chris Walter, confirms that despite challenges, the targets will be met.

“We started this project in November and the target is to build 50 houses by the end of April. Right now, we have 36 of the 50 erected and we are on our way. At the start of the project, we had some difficulties with access to water and power. We still have water challenges because we use a lot of water on site so we had to invest in a water truck. The deadline of 20 houses will, however, be met as well as the target of 50 by April.”

He says 38 individuals from the communities of Dubique and Grand Bay are employed on the project.

The 50 Petro Casas being erected here were donated by the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The Chairman of the Ministerial Subcommittee on Resettlement praised the work of the Hon Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, in forging relationships which bring immense benefits to the nation.

Parliamentary Representative for the Petite Savanne Constituency, Dr Kenneth Darroux is also pleased with the progress of the work in Center.

The MP is sure that the constituents of Dubique are equally pleased.

“Every block and inch of concrete poured brings us a step closer to the final resettlement of the Dubique community,” he says.

The MP expressed gratitude to his constituents as, according to him, he eagerly awaits handing over the first 20 keys.

Meantime, he is asking his constituents of Petite Savanne to remain patient as work is progressing behind the scenes for their resettlement.

Both the Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Resettlement Committee say plans are underway for the subdivision of land in Bellevue Chopin earmarked for the resettlement of Petite Savanne.

Our Country is so divided that we cant see the good in this story. The Dubique people must be very elated to be in the conform of a home. Lets be happy for them and stop bashing Chris Walter, or whowever completed the job. The country is what it is. Lets pray for our leaders and wish our country well. Blessings to all those who were directly affected by Erika; hope that your situation can be made better in quick time.

Those are some really ugly houses, if where going to give someone a house, give them one with some value, or something grow equity, homes are a way to grow wealth and can uplift the people, that housing project is just going to be a ghetto, someone doesn’t anything about economics.

When something is given, in a situation like this; at least, it should be a little better than what it is replacing. If someone lived in the a sixteenth century shack, and it was washed away by a storm in the twenty-first century; one would hope that the replacement would be built according to twenty-first century standards.

I looked to see if there are any vents protruding out of the red roofs, none seems to be visible to the naked eye. Am I to assume that the buildings are built without modern indoor facilities such as in indoor plumbing?

I do not see a vent to vent the fumes from the indoor toilets. Am I to assume that the pit holes are dogged and utilized somewhere in the back yard facing a neighbors’ front door?

Are there immensities such as a kitchen, along with a counter, sinks, and space to accommodate a stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator, along with a dining area, wt are the dimensions in square feet are they?

Anything less than that is subjecting one to a form of substandard living in the twenty-first century. No visible vents indicate no indoor plumbing, meaning there are no flush toilets inside, hence king pit hole still reigns supreme in Dominica in the twenty-first century!

It is much a surprise to me that the qualifications and capabilities of Cris Walters would come under scrutiny. Time and time again his work/projects have continued to speak for themselves. When all other contractors are afraid of those complex projects he takes the risk and gets the job done. He is not only a contractor; he designs, engineers and solve complex projects problems that any other contractor in Dominica can’t do. (Lease we forget Beotica road project)
This is not just all about money but for love of country. Those that sit down on their asses complaining and crying him down; I ask you what have you done for your country? Not a dam thing besides bring down its name!
Dominicans need to learn to appreciate their own, and be happy when a fellow Dominican is succeeding. A king is never recognized in his home land.
Ride on Cris do what you love doing, God will continue to bless you while the haters fall by the way side. Don’t be dismayed cause there is so much more to come.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOUR COUNTRY LATELY BESIDES MAL PALAY OTHERS ? God does not sleep !

Let me finish—– Dominica will always continue to be the most backward island the Caribbean until its people changes their way of thinking. Dominicans are like crabs. you feed them for years , yet they will still try to bite you. The concepts of moving forward as a people sometimes comes across as unschooled ignorance. Dominicans need to remember how this island was neglected by France and England for decades. I WONDER WHY? Yet they continue to criticize grants form other countries. How can you please such people? Maybe never. Some call themselves American Diaspora, suggesting that their government should initiate investments with the America. Let be clear America don’t care about countries there blacks occupy . Have you visit St Croix USVI? Census estimate approximately 18,504,926 US population are black male 745,000 are behind bars.. India has 1.2 billion people prison population 380,000. America has more black men in prison than India, Argentina, Canada, Lebanon, Japan…

Alas, lets be grateful nuh. They are not the very best or maybe safest but given the circumstances we have to say thanks wee after all. If we do not say thanks the Big Man up there (heaven) will let go a barrell on our heads again wee.

They may look like a little lovely playground from a distance but I am sure when you see them on GIS you will be surprised. What the new Press Secretary needs to do is inject some wisdom into the minds of the authourities and keepthose men and women on their pees and ques because she does not Joke. Organise Media tours with the various ministries for EVERYTHING the Governmnet is doing and have the media report back on the stations, TV and radio and the newspapers some of the good things as well as be objectives on some of the not too good things. I have every confidence that new press sec will do damn good job boy because too much is happening everywhere and there is not enough publicity.Peeping go and sleep eh

Dominican’s are the most ungrateful people in all the Eastern Caribbean Islands. They want good roads, yet they oppose contributing to a small highway tax to maintain road conditions. They want Roseau and other towns to look better, yet the majority refuses to pay $7 a year property tax. They want Chinese and Haitians to leave, yet it is the Haitians and Chinese seizing on most small business opportunities while they themselves continue getting arrested for drug distribution and robbing their local business. They want government to initiate foreign investors, yet they continue to ruin their chances by murdering those that are already there. They complain the tourism industry needs improvement, yet they continue to rob the ones who visits their country. They want new hotel investment, yet they cant provide customer service. They complain about houses granted to them by another country stating these houses are not to their standard, yet most leave in deplorable conditions. shame on you.

For those made homeless by the storm these houses are a blessing. But for the long term they do not fill the needs of most Dominicans in terms of yard space and room for expansion.

Why did u not contribute something bigger?
Must you always criticise everything? Where is gratefulness for small things and then the bigger blessings will follow. I learnt that you creep before you walk and start small not how your minds have it to walk before you creep. First thankfulness that 50 persons will benefit and have been removed from the area not sutiable for living. Say thank you JC for this small gesture and say it meaning it. We (I have to put myself in it) are too ungrateful. We have not learnt that Jehovah is in charge and in the twinkling of an eye we can lose all we have – House, car etc (sometimes things we adore). Reverence to the Most High for he owns all.

Your name spells out your intelligence, add stupid for your surname.

Let’s agree what we see is much better than living out-side, or under a banana tree, however, if what is given, donated or simply finance and the recipients will have to pay for what they receive, one would anticipate that which they are getting would be something suited in 2016, and beyond.

You are viewing what appears to be a painted obtuse 135 degree angle roof; what is the total dimension in square feet. I estimate that we are seeing less than a thousand square feet house. The average bedroom house is 12 X 12 = 144 square feet, and can only be considered a bedroom if there is a clothes closet built within. If you want two bedrooms you need 288 square foot of space.

One thousand square: (1000-288 = 712 square feet left; what amount of space do you have left to accommodate your kitchen, living rooming, dining room, and bathroom. Now you can accept less if you wish; but it can be done without building a…

        March 19, 2016

        “The average bedroom house is 12 X 12 = 144 square feet, ”

I intended to say “the average size of a bedroom in a house is 12 X 12 which equal 144 square feet!

Not: in some homes they are lager, in others they are much smaller, I know there are still people in Dominica still living in boxes of a dimension of 16 X 12 = 162 square feet.

To those who do not understand what I am doing is simply this: In order to find the square feet of anything one simply have to multiply the length times the width; or width times length, the result is the dimension in square feet.

Now if someone is planing to install a heating, or air condition system there is another calculation to work out the “BTU;” but Francisco doh showing dat calculation eh!
