A project which encountered some hiccups in the Roseau North Constituency is now well on its way.
Dominica News Online reported several months ago that some Fond Cole residents were angry about the manner in which the project was being handled and how those responsible had abandoned it.
However the project, which is being funded by the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean (OECS) and not the government of Dominica as previously reported, is said to be progressing well.
The contractor who hails from the Fond Cole community has also employed several young men from that community.
The project includes the building of drains and the construction of guttering.
Concrete steps will also be built for residents where necessary.
“Now I see something happening. We could hardly pass to go to work. We could hardly leave our home when rain falls. Now I really see work is being done. The boys are there every day. They are working hard. The have taken the project to what was a big mess to now what is work in progress,” one community member said.
Before the project, several families were at a disadvantage whenever it rains because debris and mudslides entered their homes, posing serious threat to their property.
Punctuation on this discussion is horrible, get it right people! Unleash your inner Grammar. LOL, and thanks for the laughs!
why don’t you people check the history of these houses developement, there were no planning, every body had to do what they had to do to give their familes shelters, when government could not have done that. it is there now, what we have to do is to work with it,why can’t we live in the present. iknow some of you would love to have that view, but it was not important to you at the time.the focus should be on the project.
HAPPY FOR THE RESIDENTS,BUT SOME OF THE SAME PEOPLE MOUTING THAT COUNTRY POOR,NO WORK ,THINGS BAD YET THEY EXPECT MONEY TO COME RIGHT AWAY TO SOLVE THIER ISSUES,,BE REAL FOLKS,AND GIVE THANKS FOR SMAll mercies
Where were the people from the housing and planning dept. to stop them before the buildings were erected? Too often we turn a blind eye and we react only when its too late.
It’s one thing to pour concrete but it’s another to calculate the amount of rainfall and the projected amount of water this drains can hold. This might cause more harm than good if not planned by trained civil engineers.
Off beat…you mean to tell me these people waiting on the government to build concrete steps in shallcuts/tracks /paths on the mountain side ..they created their own problem ……
Big up fondcole, the fastest developing community around the island.
IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DONE, GO AND COMPLAIN ON Q BECAUSE THE WHOLE CABAL LISTENING
…ANF THEY STILL TELLING THEIR APOSTLES DON’T LISTEN TO Q HAHA
YEAH… AND PEOPLE STILL SAYING Q95 IS NOT THE GOVERNMENT
Maybe you not from Dominica or you did not grow up in the Roseau area, if you did, what’s your point?
It’s a new year, come fresh, you come back like the same old cabinet. Come On Tiny! Fresh Up!
Election in the air! Tim-Tim wants to keep his seat warm.
tourist boats should not anchor at deep water harbour. FOND COLE IS ONE HELL OF A MESS FOR THEM TOURIST TO SEE USING THEIR BIG TELESCOPE ON THE BOAT.The tourist blogs about it where they are seeing all kinds of mess inside people houses and fellas smoking drugs on the road and sitting down all day under trees and some all shack. That’s is the unsightliness that happens when development for poor people is not properly planned.
Building houses on moutain slope ..what you all expect..but then again people build on mountains in tortola and it seems ok ..they build after proper planning iguess..first Roads were first built..Italy and Greece to.. But you Dominicans just decided to build houses chuck and block on mountain slope ..have the place looking so unsightly and even have the guts to complain later
DON’T blame the people blame the permissive authorities including the lazy planning division which allow these things to take plave (place)
there are somethings that you are not been told the first set of workers can,t get pay. it is a new person given the job to finish . when the first person used up all the money and the workers and equipment cant get pay but good job so far.
I know of other individuals who have performed work for the government and have not been paid in months! And some say Dominica doing well – can’t even pay a few thousands to citizens who performed work for them. What a shame.
