The unemployment days for 45 women from Grand Fond will soon be a thing of the past as come September they will be taking up employment at various private and public institutions thanks to the National Employment Program (NEP).

That announcement was made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit while he made his remarks at the inauguration of the Grand Fond Village council on Wednesday.

“That 45 is in addition to the 25 men whom we have already engaged under the National Employment Program (NEP),” Skerrit said. “So in the Grand Fond constituency alone some 70 people will be engaged fully under the NEP.”

The Prime Minister noted that many of the women to be employed are single mothers.

“Many of these women have children, they are single mothers,” he stated. “And come September they will be in a position as independent women to provide for themselves and their families. And this is what we have been doing in this country, empowering people irrespective of who you are or where you come from.”

Meantime work on the ongoing playing field in that community has been given high praise.

“Today I visited the playing field because I wanted to see where the excess of $600,000 have gone and I can tell you I am very satisfied with the work that is being done on the playing field,” the prime minister said.

Additionally, a contract with has been signed for rehabilitation work on the Grand Fond main road and is expected to being shortly, the prime minister announced.

“We have signed this contract tonight notwithstanding the fact that we have spent some $2-million on it, there is still more work to be done,” he said. “And we are happy to have signed this contract for $ 452,000 that is hoping to start very soon utilizing a local contractor who I hope will employ people from Grand Fond and not from Roseau.”

He also pointed out that the School Transportation Program (STP) that was implemented was “important” since transportation was one of the challenges that parents of children attending school was being faced with.

Skerrit also commented that he appreciated the STP even more When he received a text message from a parent indicating that, in large measure, it contributed to a child being one of the top performers in the country.

So for 14-plus years Mr. Skeritt made the people suffer? Now a few weeks before the general elections he is handing out temporary jobs to all youths of voting age.

It just amazing though that whilst he can exploit the government resources to bribe aspiring voters, he can’t find a dime to pay the Public Works workers for their months of hard work, neither can he spare a few coins to fix the vital X-Ray machine at the Hospital which is broken down .

Look at it nicely, Politics in full measure. Suddenly, here comes PM with his redemption song and plan. This is just plan and simple politics and Poli- tricks . Just trying to gain grounds on the political playing field. But in Reality, where is the Pal Rep from this constituency? Is he not the one to be talking on behalf of his constituents? Seems to me that this Pal Pep is like past tense and non existence.
Its like a circus and the folks are dancing to the PM’s tune. Last week Deputy Mervin Paul was giving out grant and look now the PM is all over the place, like the Labour Campaign has begun.
Dominicans need to pray for wisdom….. cause its like the blind leading the blind… By the way, The whole of Dominica should go to the Pm’s office for a job on monday, cause the whole country itself is unemployed.. What kind of jobs are being offered, nobody knows… its the remainder from the pot of gold that only the kabal and supporters enjoy……
No wonder, a lil One thousand dollars scholarship makes news in Dominica… Oh Dear……
When you pooor, its like you gone through in this world……Poor people taking pipe and feeling the heat…….. Folks should take all their gifts and dont vote themmmmmm

Skerrit also commented that he appreciated the STP even more When he received a text message from a parent indicating that, in large measure, it contributed to a child being one of the top performers in the country…. It’s disappointing that these jobs and road only now come ,But it came!! And I am happy for that. The ppl who complain about the jobs don’t have to accept it. It’s that simple. If u have a problem with the roads don’t drive pun it.
Now why is it a problem when the government starts projects n provide jobs during an employment year. Are u telling me that during an election year nothing should happen ??? None sense !!
If I recall well the ground breaking for the playing field occurred less than a month before UWP called elections and they did not hVe a cent to build it. They broke ground for the stadium that same time, again no funds. So I don’t know why the present government getting so much backlash because they are starting projects.
Maybe Thompson presence has maybe caused the current parl rep to show his face more. But Thompson is no wat contributing to the development of grand fond. I have seen Thompson once in grand fond and he did not want to even greet me. There is no way Thompson will stay and represent grand fond when UWP loses the election. I wat someone who will remain and look out for his ppl.

Tell me something. Can Thompson stay and represent Grand Fond if he’s not the parl rep who wins the seat as you’re suggesting? How will he represent if he doesn’t win? And why would he stay and representi when you have him already losing the seat so you can tell him you all didn’t vote him and he didn’t greet you.

People are in need of jobs. They want jobs and will welcome the opportunity to be employed. Women of Grand Fond, I wish you well. Good luck in your new jobs.
In these past few years, I view D/ca as a better, progressive country that it was in those days with more of this to come.
Rather than spewing negativity, scoffing at and denouncing all the good which is being done for nationals in D/ca under the leadership of the Prime Minister, all Dominicans should be appreciative and applaud him.
It is not a matter of election time is near but that the opportunity is there to assist nationals which is necessary for them, right now.and at the right time. You know the saying, nothing happens before its time. Wish the job recipients well and progress. They also deserve encouragement.

Grand fond stand up empty promises are for fools. Did we see the 300 jobs to the youths, Where is the Airport? where is the coffee factory? Has the idle president of the government youth arm been employed? Please people don’t be taken for a ride, do not let the promise of a job clog your Judgement. In the past we have experienced that when a party is in power for more than 15 years they always turn their guns on the citizens. Enough is ……

And this is what we have been doing in this country, empowering people irrespective of who you are or where you come from.”
Mr. Prime Minister I beg to defer on this statement as this is a LIE….For how long young people from Morne Jaune and Riviere Cyric have had to put Roseau addresses just to get an interview we told you so in 2009 when along with Mr. Blackmoore you all came to Morne Jaune with a cheque of $150,000 to fix the Morne Jaune Road and it took you all more than 5 years to do less than a quarter mile of Road.
We have educated people in Morene Jaune and Riviere Cyrique too Mr. PM but the last scholarship for study abroad went to the children of Mr. Petter St.Jean; yet you say a University graduate in every home in Dominica…..Is Morne Jaune Riviere Cyrique and Grandfond included in Dominica? Mr. PM why then must your Government promise to help a SINGLE mother pursuing studies here in Dominica while paying taxes to assist her but when the time comes fail to do so and leave her wondering why she ever trusted this government who only helps the “Laborite”.
Mr. Prime Minister as a single mother and a proud MJ native I fail to see how you have helped my people. You are doing to Grand Fond what you all did in Morne Jaune in 2009 playing politics and why? Because you know as well as I do that Grandfond is the deciding factor in that south east seat. With All due respect Mr. PM which sane Grand Fond person after your years of Neglect in our area and treating the parlrep like a little boy would Vote Ivor Stephenson from Riviere Cyrique over the Educated mild mannered son of the Soil Thomson Fountain from Grand Fond? My People Change is a Must Vote out DLP once and for All. We have always been blue.

They have thrown everything including the kitchen sink at Dr. Fontaine, it appears nothing is working, according to Mr. Linton, “jobs, jobs and more jobs.” The young people of Grand Fond have been suffering for approximately fifteen years, by dangling the red job carrot, they believe that will fix the years of suffering. According to a Prime Minister of Dominica, hee gas! hee gas! we catch him this time.

Why is the PM paying people to work for other people. So the owners get the full profit. Why doesnt he open up some factories with that money and the profit goes to the state. We have coconut, mangoes guava, oranges .All these can be made into juices, bottled, canned, boxed.People will be employed and the state makes money.Farmers can plant potatoes. These can be made into chips.Bananas can be made int chips too .Find markets. We have the resources but they are left to waste and he paying people to work for other people. What a joke with that NEP program.Waste of money .I thought PM was more smart but he is a joker
