Government of Venezuela to remove shipwrecks in Portsmouth

Wrecks in Portsmouth

Lands and Housing Minister Reginald Austrie is justifying reasons for awarding a contract to remove the shipwrecks in Portsmouth to the Government of Venezuela.

Government has been widely criticized for what villagers in the north say has been an eye sore for several years.

But Austrie said while a number of firms volunteered to remove the wrecks in Portsmouth at no cost to them, these organizations requested favors from government.

“All those companies who say they want to remove the wrecks for free want something in return. Every single one of them. So we went to our friends in Venezuela and we have been working with them almost two years now to see if he could raise the funding. We have just found out that monies have been transferred to PetroCarib who will manage the project,” he said.

Austrie said the contract also speaks to removing metallic waste all across the country and not just in the north.

I very happy that DNO brought this news article to the public’s attention . When I heard the Minister’s comment on the radio I could not take it all in. Seeing it now in black & white just astonishes me.

Reginald, if your brain is in your stomach, that’s your business. Our brains are where they are supposed to be, and for the record, “we are not jackasses.”

It goes to show that you are clearly not an educated person and you don’t think before you speak.

Please, I implore you, before you go on the radio to speak on a matter that concerns the people of Dominica, then I suggest you choose your words wisely. Don’t make a fool of yourself.

Why are you people crying about what the said. They already declared hunting season on truth. Remember man says – Truth has no place in government politics. So just take it easy and let the lies fly above your heads.Let them grab , let them lie but there will be a day of reckoning. The government spiritual advisor had his ,UWP had theirs and so will all the band of DLP crooks.

I hope Dominicans stop this rum shop politics and begin to elect men and women who can hold court in proper sequence. This friend for rum, handshake and corncurls voting where people who are so inept and devoid of logic are being elected to state offices is heart wrenching and a total embarassment!

What an idiotic, shallow and baseless argument in this day an age.

Really really sad that we have to listen to such nonsense from public officials. I find this to be very insulting. It would have served Reggy well to remain silent instead of making another idiotic episode.
The lack of education factor is catching up with our politics . In addition technology and high speed communication is beyond the comprehensive capacity of our politicians. 15 years ago a politician would make such a statement and that statement would go into oblivion right after the 1:15 news on DBS. Today the entire world can view such statement and realize how low and immature our politicians are.

Not sure what is wrong with this DNO but i’ll try again

“ So we went to our friends in Venezuela and we have been working with THEM almost two years now to see if HE could raise the funding. We have just found out that monies have been transferred to Petro Carib who will manage the project,”
What a bunch of bull ; DNO please clarify the conflicting information here – According to the quote Mr Austrie had been working with a group and then it turned out to be an individual. Which one is it?
In order to gain some credibility it would have been prudent that MR Austrie state what exactly it is that the other volunteers wanted in return and what it is that the government was not willing to provide. Let us not be fooled – there is no free launch. The fact that the Venezuelan connection had to raise funds to come all the way to Dominica to remove the eyes sores for free smells funny. I am from Portsmouth and an independent thinker and there is just no logic in what Austrie is presenting. The question is what was and is in there for the Venezuelan connection? Tell us the truth let us see decide whether it was better to sacrifice a testicle or in the other case a right hand.
Let the lies continue!!!!!!!!!! One day One day kan ka day. OECS unity in some instances (like ID cards for example ) and down with OECS collaboration when there is special interest and benefits for ministers and cabals.

We waited two years just insure that certain government people benefit. I guess the other volunteers proposals was not really greasing the palms of those government bandits.
My next vote will be for the person (s) who are fully prepared and committed to putting those DLP cowboys and cohorts in jail for obvious misconduct. At this point I don’t give a rats tail about manifesto, jobs, and glory days because I’ve seen and heard it all. If your manifesto says Jail for unscrupulous politicians past, past, present and future you got my vote.
A kind garden kid can put this puzzle together yet Auistrie is thinking that only he can fool people with this nonsense.

Our home town possie should be benefiting from this not the Government. I believe the town council need to take a more pro active step in ensuring that the town get something in return, but its seems to me that Reginal Austrie and his fellow associates in Petro Carib will benefits the most.

shame on my Government, i wonder who in the Acts of Dominica was given the mandate to remove scrap and handle metallic waste on island…..i guess all the government seeing in their eyes is $$$$$$ signs and cant resist it. why not leave the business to who was mandated to do it instead of Venezuela making a fortune on what could flow in the Dominican economy!!! hmph

I just can’t believe I am hearing this from a Minister. Mr Austrie this is very poor. I can’t believe you even repeated this. How do you expect we Dominicans to feel when this is your reason for not giving us this project. So favors are for only one set. I hope those are not your real words. Admin, you sure this statement came from a Minister of Gov’t. Alas!!

This statement sound fishy they want to do it for free give it to them I know what they wanted in retain is not that big of a deal! I know the price them venezulean ask is much more profitable than what the Dominicans wanted from the government in return! Politician just dirty dirty and dirty me say if it was Austrie friend that wanted the reward in retain he would have given it to them

Ok, my eduation is very limited so bear with me. The minister said ‘All those companies who say they want to remove the wrecks for free want something in return. Every single one of them’. Every one of those gredy peole wanted to do it for free but wanted favours from government instead. Can we get an idea of what kind of favours they requested? Because as I see it, we turned down free service for ‘So we went to our friends in Venezuela and we have been working with them almost two years now to see if he could raise the funding. We have just found out that monies have been transferred to PetroCarib who will manage the project’.

As I see it, we denied our people because they wanted something in return. Instead, we went to our friends in Venezuela and raised funds (money, cash) and opted to pay for someting which we could get for free. What does Venezuela want in return for these funds Mr. Austrie? I guess it is much less than our locals wanted. Great!
