Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that physical works are expected to begin in the next several weeks on the construction of homes for residents of Petite Savanne.

The community was severely affected by Tropical Storm Erika August 27, 2015 and residents had to be evacuated from that community which was deemed unsafe.

“In regards to the wider community of Petite Savanne we are working on a number of issues there. I think in the next several weeks we will start actual physical works and even start the construction of homes,” Skerrit said.

According to him, the government of Venezuela has signed a contract with a company for 100 homes with 50 already on the island.

“All of the other homes have been constructed and awaiting shipment from Venezuela,” he stated.

He stated there was a delay but this due to the fact that the government was “properly advised on the layout of those areas in terms of the roads and so forth.”

“We have to ensure that we build a community…,” he noted.

Land has already been secured for the building of the new Petite Savanne in Bellevue Chopin.

The government has already announced evacuees from Dibique will be moving into their new homes by Easter.

I am so glad contraction has began to replace the people from petite savanne. Dominican must be aware that government is on their side. I hoping that the bank will have to find a way to also help these people get back on their feet.

The Indian doctor, the recently installed sacred neurosurgeon, the 8th wonder of the world, the Dominican “Ben Carson”, the most useless googled, twittered, and Facebooked great physician who cannot diagnose nor heal any of the poverty stricken island’s problems which he initiated is continuing to demonstrate that he has a mental cavity which needs filling. With all these tiny matches box being placed all over the island, the place will soon like one big giant farm. The supreme leader is happy to announce that Venezuela has already donated 50 fowl cages to the island and the other 50 is yet to come. I have one question for the holy emperor, how many poor homeless struggling people have he taken into his home, clothe them and feed them since the passage of Erika???????

In 1966, Richard Farina wrote a novel about “Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me” In essence he was saying, he is so use to being down that being down no longer troubled him.

That’s exactly how Dominicans feel today under the brutal reign of Roosevelt Skerrit. First, they’ve been lied to and fooled so much (Ian can attest to that), that now being fooled no longer bothers them, and being down is like being up. What a state of mind to be in! You talk about pure hopelessness, that’s the mood of the once proud, ounce hopeful Dominican people.

You need to be corrected. You are not commenting on behalf of all Dominicans for they all do not feel that way. They are not all in the poverty structure. They did not all experience the wrath of TS Erika. Therefore, when you comment again, do not generalize. Too often some of you do that and think in this manner, the same toward those who comment on this Website. Dominicans are not all one and the same.

Over the year I have been trying my best to believe PM Skerrit, but some how it is just hard. The man is not honest and he always seems to be saying what he believes we need to hear, when under pressure from the opposition or Q95.

I am a laborite myself and voted for the pm in the 2014 election, though a last minute decision, when he told us the Friday before the election that he got friendly governments, for the pending raise.

But the fact is, the PM is not transparent and he doesn’t have a reputation of being truthful. No matter how close one is to him, they sure need to think hard to believe the man.

I am happy he is married because if he wasn’t and approached me, I sure would not trust him and his word.

This announcement here should bring some comfort to the people affected but knowing what they have been through with this PM, both the people and the parlrep must be very concerned about the accuracy of this information.

You are implying that you are an honest person and you never deceived anyone? Who would believe that?

    What is “several weeks?”

It means more than one definitely but i could also mean 52, 100 or 10000. That is where the media in Dca is lacking. The man said several weeks but no one probed him for a better timeline. So the people of Pte. Savanne have no choice but to wait for who knows how long before they can get a place to call home if they even get it at all. We are really and truly leaving in a fools paradise papa. And still, they LOVE the DUCK-TER PM.

    Always Assertive!
