Plans for the construction of an access bridge leading to important facilities in the Pichelin Community, which includes the Health Centre and Roman Catholic Church, have moved ahead with a commitment from the Government of Dominica to provide the necessary funding.
Last week, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Roosevelt Skerrit, announced that Government will make available $350,000 to the village council, which will go towards that project.
The Prime Minister informed villagers that all the necessary preliminary work has been done for the project and tendering process should be finalized soon.
“With regards to the crossing, all the designs have been completed, the quantities have been prepared and I have asked for the project to be tendered so we can start the construction of the bridge. This project will be done at a cost of EC $350,000.00,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister noted that in light of the current Global Economic crisis, “this is not a little bit of money and in the scheme of things that is a huge project for anywhere in Dominica at this time”.
He is hopeful that the people of Pichelin will appreciate it the much needed project.
Parliamentary Representative for the Petite Savanne Constituency, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, is delighted the project is receiving some attention.
“When I came in as parliamentary representative, the whole idea of this project was basically on a standstill but I am happy to report that we have already acquired the property leading to the hub of activity and the land owners have already been paid for the land,” he said. “We know that this is a project that the Pichelin people have been looking forward to for a very long time and I am happy to say that we have made significant progress in that regard”.
Darroux believes that movement on this project, “is progress in the right direction and I have the commitment of the Minister of Finance and Prime Minister that we should see work begin on this project soon.”
The main access bridge in Pichelin is just one of several important projects receiving attention by Government in that part of the country.
Recently, Government made $175,000 available for the rehabilitation of the feeder road to Ostave in Pichelin.

this project is LONG OVER due. 20 years. one thing i know doctor darroux not urban baron. we say pichelin need it fair share of the cake. not forgetting the water supply for flip.
Pichlein, St. Joseph, Laplaine, Wesley, Carib reserve, Castle bruce and Grand fond. These 7 constituencies have shown in the last poll conducted by H H of Barbados to swing the other way. Look out for additional works in these communities as the the date draws near.
