Vice Chairman of the Range Development, Mohammed Asaria, has said a hotel to be built by his company in Cabrits, Portsmouth will be among the best in the Eastern Caribbean employing hundreds, mostly from Dominica.

Representative of the company met with members of the private sector on Tuesday and Asaria said the hotel will have a significant impact on the island’s tourism sector.

“This will be one of the leading hotels in the eastern Caribbean when completed,” he stated. “We have a 30-month construction time table from when we start going. We are confident that this will have major impact on the tourism sector in Dominica.”

He pointed out that during the peak of construction, in excess of 500 jobs will be available and 300 more when the hotel enters its operational phase.

He said most of the jobs will be made available to Dominicans.

“We would have failed in our ambition if the vast majority of these are not from the island of Dominica,” Asaria noted.

He added that his company is willing to engage with the private sector as much as possible when the hotel is being constructed.

“For this project to succeed we need the support of the local busness communities across the spectrum,” he noted.

He stated that the hotel will be spectactular and ultra-luxurious.

“If you look at my company’s background and pedigree, we are known for working with some of the best hotel brands, be that the Park Hyde in St. Kitts and Kepenski in Dominica,” Asaria stated.

He described the location at Cabrits as superb.

“The beach is spectular, there are amazing views from the location and I think the discerning clientele, which this hotel will attract, will find this as their home away from home,” he remarked.

The contract for the construction of the hotel was signed in November 2014 between the government of Dominica, Range Capital Partners LTD and the Kempinski Group.

Earlier this year parliament enacted a piece of legislation to amend the National Parks and Protected Areas Act, Chapter 42:0, extracting 15 acres of land from the Cabrits National Park for the construction of the hotel.

The hotel is being constructed under the island’s citizen by investment program.

DOMINICANS, this is the reason Dr. Lennox Honeychurch quietly left Dominica. He was a gainst this idea, is still against it and the Supreme Leader, Almighty Skerrit, who listens to no one, went ahead with this really stupid decision in our national park.

Whose FOOLs are Dominicans? A foreigner comes empty-handed in deal with Skerritt’s DLP Govt and he claims is Citizen-by-investment Programme (CIP).

What did that Range Dev. guy come with,so-called investor?” Money to buy Real Estate,/Land in Dominica? Skerritt and his Cabal, go to Parliament, carved out 15 acres of our land from our Cabrits National Park, and just like that gave all that land to Range Dev.

Mohammed Asaria, you did it. You get land, plus our passports to sell to make millions. Dominicans in the dark. Land and passports to sell for that Range dev. rep and their ilk, but taxes, and more taxes on a hard-pressed Dominicans. Summons to appear in court, tear gas, bullets, harassment for the hard-working people of Salisbury, but our land taken and given to Range Dev, Our Passports selling like peas. Money made not ours.

Dominica selling, sold by our own black brothers and sisters.

Emancipation week? Mental Slavery turn many into…

Dominicans voting on a promises that is so far fetched that even Stevie Wonder can see this is a pipe dream!
When will Dominicans put Dominica first! We are last in everyt hing in the carribean. In the 1980’s St.Lucians used to come to Dominica to look for work, now we looking up to St.Lucia, even flying from the U.S into St.Lucia!
It seems like we like to remain in the shadows and let other people lead. I went to Da and I am still asking my self , “but where is the development they talking about, and compared to whom?” Same old Roseau, and people waiting on Skerritt to help them out.
Wake up Dominicans and put yourself first.

That artist impression is a misrepresentation for a start. The location does not look anything like that at all. The main road runs where that beach is showing. There is no beach only a little bit behind the sea defense wall and certainly not white sand like you are showing.. What are you going to do with that main road, divert it?. And Angelo Allen told us that the Waitikubuli trail running right across that land and nobody challenged him. Who will be the owners of that hotel and if it is such a good thing how come ordinary Dominicans can not invest in it? That sounds like one big ponzi scheme to me.

Another pretty picture. All that is going to happen is all you might mess up some of the Island nature to put up a foundation and that is it. This government is doing things and not considering the environment or the Island nature. Ask them what was one of the reasons Mr. Honeychurch took the job and ran to Barbados, and I hope he reads my post and confirm. He as a labour supporter, (no news there). The government ask for the boundires of the Cabrits National Park but before Mr Honeychurch could give it to them they had already broken grounds and give the so called company approval to build the hotel. God I hope I am wrong but I hope this is not another bogus company made up just to fool Dominicans and pocket the million we could make from the passports sales to help rebuild our island., Sad times in Dominica, sad times.

I have no confidence in this project. I recall viewing the artist rendition for a 50 room guest house in Portsmouth some five years ago, only to be told by Ian that the “Arab Spring” is the reason why the project has yet to be completed.
The coffee plant and the abattoir have yet to come to fruition. I can add to that, the cruise ship birth in Canefield that “Rayburn Marte” promised and geothermal energy. The two boats for agriculture were set a drift at sea and planes flew away with the international airport. Athletes are basking in the glow of the Roseau Sports Complex today. The Layou River Hotel is one of Dominica’s finest establishments and students are playing games on their government issued sticky-tablets right now.

I checked out your company’s background and pedigree.
The company started out in 2011.
First project is in st. Kitts….scheduled for completion in 2016.
You haven’t completed one single project………YOU HAVE NO TRACK RECORD.
You are a young company with little capital of your own.
Why do you need our passports to sell overseas in order to fund the project.
You give de impression of a traveling salesman.
You are not an ambassador of Dominica.
I want to know when will work begin.
Will it be before or after you completed the hotel in st.Kitts.
Neither yourself nor my government has a realistic workable timetable.
    I am not easily fooled!!!!
    You failed……try again!

Telemaque what is the answer to our problems. We need to raise 1.000.000. Chickens that would employ more than2.000. People , why dont you come back and do it. The smug in California is shutting you life, and you are not using your brains to full capacity .

It is all well and good to have employment opportunities so I will welcome this project with open arms….. There is a matter of concern though…. I know a coast guard base was spoken about for this area. Is this a part of the Cabrits National Park? What became of the Moroccan hotel on the other side? I hear speculations but I need to hear from a neutral source from Portsmouth. We know that we need these projects to improve the private sector but how will it be sustained? What is our target market? What infrastructure is there in place for these tourists? Talk to me….

Please invest 50% of the money RANGE receive as fee from sales of our passport in the project if you believe so much in the success of the hotel Mr. Asaria.

As long as your company is not willing to invest, it is very clear this will be a white elephant.

These deal really bothers me because RANGE has no risk in the project……their is nothing in there for RANGE to do everything to make this a success.

If this hotel hired 500 people that would be some relief for our unemployment. Dominica need a nice beach hotel like our neighboriing islands.I will take a nice vacation there when it complete will be a nice getaway.

I have been to places as rugged as Dominica, with far less beaches than we have in Dominica. The tourist industry in such places are booming. You have to make the best out of what you have ; Dominica is sort of unique in a sense!

However, there are so many obstacles in our way placed there by corrupted politicians that meaning full development in the tourist industry or any other is almost impossible. Obstacle number one we lack an International Airport, any foreign investor who would spend any vast amount of money on hotels in Dominica at this time is a fool. For the few locally owned operated on the island including Fort Young, is practically always empty.

If they all combined cannot employ five hundred people, I do not how this overnight Skerrit supporter is going to accomplish that. The success of a hotel in Dominica depends on overnight visitors. He had better demand an International Airport before flush his pennies down the gutter!

Santorini in greece makes a ton of money. it has no international airport and maybe just a handfull of nice beaches. people fly to greece from as far as china or india to fly or ferry to santorini to spend lots of money $$…. u do not need an international airport to be hugely successful, especially if u simply cannot afford it. dominica’s future is in boutique tourism… anything else would bring on the WRONG type of development…imagine how quickly our chances at success would evaporate if we looked anything like st. martin… guess what they have – AN IA (you should think about what externalities that creates!!

and your comment on fort young defies basic logic… it has been operating for decades and is actually hardly empty… if it was practically always empty the company would choke. do you know that place is currently expanding its operations?

like u said – u have to make the BEST of what you have…dominica is different to other islands and we will lose if we try to…

He said 500 people for the construction Dahman and we don’t even know if they would be Dominicans. It would be cheaper to engage a Chinese company, who bring their own workers.

Yes the artists rendition of everything in Dominica always look good until the time to commenced work never arrive. We ave plenty of artists rendition shown to the public. All you people are doing is helping to prop up that corrupt dictator Skerrit.

Before you come here talking crap, find out why the artist rendition in the same Cabrits have yet to be completed after so many years under construction. Find out why there are other artist rendition on the island which Skerrit claims his government is a share holder never get completed.

Food for thought whosoever you are!
